Gaza Death Toll Rises as Israeli Attacks Kill 75 in 24 Hours

Gaza death toll rises again, with at least 75 Palestinians killed and 370 others injured in Israeli strikes over the past 24 hours, the Palestinian Health Ministry confirmed on Tuesday. Among the dead were 17 people seeking humanitarian aid.

The latest figures push the total number of Palestinians killed since October 7, 2023, to 62,819, with 158,629 wounded.

Rising Civilian Casualties and Aid Seeker Deaths

According to health officials, the number of aid seekers killed has now reached 2,140 since May 27, when the Gaza Humanitarian Framework (GHF) distribution system was introduced. Many victims have been those waiting in line for food, flour, or basic supplies, underscoring the dire humanitarian crisis facing the besieged enclave.

Officials in Gaza say the relentless airstrikes and shelling continue to overwhelm hospitals, which are already struggling with shortages of medical supplies, fuel, and staff. Families are forced to collect the bodies of their loved ones from makeshift morgues as the death toll rises each day.

Israeli Raid Injures Palestinians in Ramallah

In the occupied West Bank, Israeli forces stormed central Ramallah, firing stun grenades and live rounds at residents, according to the Wafa news agency.

Three Palestinians were wounded in the attack, including a 12-year-old boy shot in the back near a market. The Palestinian Red Crescent Society confirmed its paramedics transferred the child to hospital for emergency treatment.

Witnesses reported Israeli troops also targeted currency exchange shops and heavily patrolled the city center, creating panic among residents. The raid reflects the growing frequency of military incursions across West Bank cities in recent months.

Fear and Trauma Inside Nasser Hospital

Doctors and nurses at Nasser Hospital in southern Gaza say they are living under constant fear after a deadly Israeli attack struck near the facility on Monday.

Anneliese Stephenson Wenn, a critical care nurse volunteering at the hospital, told Al Jazeera that staff are working under “unsustainable” conditions. “They already know that Israel has no regard for their lives and this [attack] has really just cemented that,” she said.

Healthcare workers, she explained, arrive hungry, sleep-deprived, and traumatized. Many spend sleepless nights listening to bomb strikes before reporting for duty, uncertain whether they or their families will survive the next attack.

“They’re wondering if they’re going to end up as a patient in their own hospital,” Stephenson Wenn said, describing the psychological toll on doctors and nurses.

Patients in Fear Inside Medical Facilities

Even patients inside Nasser Hospital, she noted, remain terrified. Shrapnel from the recent missile strike injured people in the patient care area, proving that hospitals are no longer safe havens.

“Even when patients come here after being attacked outside the hospital, they’re still in fear for their lives while they’re in the hospital. Being here is no guarantee of safety,” she added.

International medical organizations have repeatedly called on Israel to protect health facilities, but strikes on or near hospitals have continued throughout the war.

Humanitarian Situation Worsens

With Gaza death toll rising daily, international agencies warn of famine, disease outbreaks, and a complete breakdown of medical services. Aid groups say many residents risk their lives while queuing for food, highlighting the lethal intersection of starvation and bombardment.
