Veronika Slowikowska Joins Saturday Night Live as New Cast Member

Canadian Comedian Added to SNL Season 51 Cast

Saturday Night Live has added Canadian comedian Veronika Slowikowska to its lineup for the show’s 51st season. The Barrie, Ontario native confirmed the news on social media, announcing that she would be joining NBC’s legendary sketch comedy series as one of five new featured players.

“Dream come true. See you Saturdays,” Slowikowska wrote on Instagram, where she has built a following of more than one million fans. Her confirmation immediately sparked excitement among Canadian audiences and comedy followers who have closely watched her rapid rise in both online and traditional entertainment.

A Viral Comedy Presence

Slowikowska has made her name through digital comedy, regularly creating viral content across Instagram and TikTok. She has nearly 700,000 TikTok followers, and her sketches often spark wide discussion online.

In May, she gained attention for a viral video in which she literally walked a mile in her roommate’s shoes to explore the meaning of masculinity. The sketch earned more than eight million views, highlighting her ability to blend sharp wit with relatable storytelling.

Her consistent online popularity has given her a platform that now translates to one of the biggest stages in comedy: Saturday Night Live.

From Barrie to New York

Before her rise to international attention, Veronika Slowikowska studied at the Canadian Film Centre’s Actors Conservatory, where she sharpened her acting skills. She will turn 30 this October, marking a milestone as she enters the cast of one of the world’s most influential comedy shows.

Her screen career already includes recurring roles in U.S. series such as FX’s What We Do in the Shadows and Netflix’s Tires. In Canada, she has appeared in the CBC comedy Homeschooled, the OutTV horror comedy Ezra, and Chandler Levack’s acclaimed coming-of-age film I Like Movies (2022).

These credits demonstrate her ability to shift between online comedy, television, and film — versatility that could serve her well on SNL’s high-pressure stage.

Departure of Canadian Writer Celeste Yim

While Slowikowska joins the cast, another Canadian is departing. Celeste Yim, who had been part of SNL’s writing team for five years, announced last week that they were leaving the show. Yim played a significant role in shaping sketches for Bowen Yang, helping elevate him into one of the program’s standout stars.

In a farewell message, Yim noted, “I was the first ever out trans person to be a writer for SNL. I always felt honoured to be working within the long tradition of queer writing at the show.”

Their departure marks a shift in SNL’s Canadian representation, even as Slowikowska steps into the spotlight as a performer.

Canadian Legacy at SNL

SNL has a long tradition of Canadian talent, though this has been less common in recent decades. Dan Aykroyd, Phil Hartman, and Mike Myers all became comedy icons after launching their careers on the show. More recently, Norm Macdonald, who left the cast in 1998, was the last Canadian to play a regular role.

Bowen Yang, who has dual American-Canadian citizenship and spent part of his childhood in Canada, has been a cast member since 2019. Slowikowska now joins this legacy, representing a new generation of Canadian talent on the iconic New York stage.

Looking Ahead to Season 51

Saturday Night Live returns for its 51st season on October 4, airing live from New York at 11:30 p.m. ET. Canadian audiences can watch on Global. The show continues to evolve under the leadership of Toronto-born creator Lorne Michaels, who has run SNL since its debut in 1975.

With her viral comedic style, screen experience, and growing fan base, Veronika Slowikowska is poised to make a strong impression as she joins the cast. For her fans in Canada and beyond, her leap to Saturday Night Live represents both a career milestone and a chance to bring fresh perspectives to one of television’s most influential comedy stages.
