Israeli Airstrike Hits Gaza Schools, Killing 33 and Injuring Over 100

An Israeli airstrike on Gaza schools killed at least 33 Palestinians, including 18 children, and injured more than 100 others on Thursday. The attack struck Dar al-Arqam School in Gaza City’s Tuffah neighborhood, which was sheltering displaced families. The Gaza Government Media Office confirmed that at least 29 people died at the school after being hit by multiple missiles.

Schools Targeted Amid Conflict

A second strike targeted Fahd School, also used as a shelter, killing at least four more people. Reports suggest that both schools were housing families who had fled previous attacks in other parts of the city.

The Israeli military stated that the airstrikes targeted a Hamas command center used to plan attacks against Israeli civilians and soldiers. However, it remains unclear whether this claim is directly related to the strikes on the schools.

Civilians Caught in the Crossfire

Eyewitnesses and rescue teams described scenes of devastation. A spokesperson for Gaza’s emergency rescue services called the attack a massacre against women and children.

“This war must stop immediately. Children are being killed in cold blood,” the spokesperson told Al Jazeera.

Medical officials reported over 100 deaths across Gaza on Thursday alone. The casualties include:

  • 58 killed in Gaza City, including seven children taken to Al-Ahli Arab Hospital.

  • 14 killed in Khan Younis, with nine from the same family, including five children and four women.

  • 19 killed near the European Gaza Hospital, including a pregnant woman and five children aged one to seven.

Humanitarian Crisis Worsens

Rescue efforts remain slow due to equipment shortages, with many civilians still trapped under rubble. The Gaza Government Media Office warned that the health sector is collapsing, pushing the region toward a humanitarian catastrophe.

Meanwhile, Israel’s month-long total siege has further worsened conditions. The blockade restricts food, fuel, and medicine, leaving hospitals struggling to treat the injured.

With no safe shelters left, families in Gaza remain trapped under constant bombardment.
