India’s Comments a ‘Troubling Departure from International Norms,’ Says Pakistan

Pakistan’s Foreign Office (FO) has strongly condemned recent remarks by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) termed his statements “inflammatory” and a “troubling departure from international norms.” The FO said Modi’s speech reflected historical revisionism, repression of minorities, and aggressive behavior.

Speaking in Gujarat, PM Modi called recent cross-border incidents a “deliberate war strategy.” He warned of strong retaliation from India if provoked. Pakistan found the remarks provocative and irresponsible. The FO noted this was not the first time Modi had used such language during an election campaign.

Water as a Weapon: A Dangerous Path

Modi also suggested that the Indus Waters Treaty had been suspended. He blamed previous Indian governments for neglecting water infrastructure and claimed India would now control the flow of shared water. Pakistan reacted strongly, warning that such statements amounted to “weaponising a treaty-bound resource.”

“This is a clear violation of international obligations,” the FO stated. The Indus Waters Treaty, signed in 1960 and brokered by the World Bank, remains a cornerstone of regional water cooperation.

The Foreign Office also raised concerns about India’s involvement in extraterritorial assassinations. It said India had “a track record of subversion abroad,” especially in the context of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). The statement highlighted “systematic repression” in the region under Indian control.

Modi’s Hate Speech and Internal Policies

According to MOFA, India continues to promote “mob violence” and “hate campaigns” against minorities. The FO said it was ironic that a country promoting such actions now attempts to play the victim. “Jingoism may earn political points,” the FO said, “but it damages regional peace and stability.”

The FO urged India to show restraint and respect international treaties. It advised Indian leaders to adopt a more mature tone in their public remarks. “Respect for sovereignty, adherence to treaties, and responsible rhetoric are core principles of global order,” the statement read.

Recent Conflict and Ceasefire

Tensions between the two countries escalated earlier in May. India launched missile strikes inside Pakistani territory on May 6 and 7, claiming to target militant camps. The strikes killed several Pakistani civilians, including women and children.

Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos: Pakistan Responds

Pakistan responded with a large-scale military operation named Bunyan-um-Marsoos. It targeted Indian military installations across multiple regions. The Pakistan Air Force shot down six Indian fighter jets, including three Rafales, and dozens of drones.

The conflict ended on May 10 after 87 hours, following a U.S.-brokered ceasefire.

The Foreign Office concluded by urging Indian youth to reject hate and division. It called on them to support dignity, reason, and regional cooperation instead. “There is more to gain through peace than through provocation,” the statement said.

As weather conditions remain unstable, authorities continue to monitor the situation and coordinate relief efforts.

Punjab Schools to Stay Open on Youm-e-Takbeer

Students across Punjab will attend school on May 28 as the provincial education department has decided not to declare a holiday. Instead, schools will observe Youm-e-Takbeer activities with patriotic programmes and competitions to honour Pakistan’s nuclear achievements.

Schools to Host Events for National Pride

According to a notification issued by the Punjab School Education Department, all government schools will hold special morning assemblies. These will include the national anthem, prayers, and speeches highlighting the historical significance of Youm-e-Takbeer.

The department instructed District Education Authorities to ensure that each school delivers a “positive social message for peace and courage” throughout the day.

District Competitions and Cash Prizes

To further engage students, district-level competitions will take place. These include speech contests on nuclear capability and national security, as well as art, poster-making, and national song (Milli Naghme) performances. Winners in each category at the district level will receive Rs50,000 as a cash prize.

Additionally, students and staff will take a pledge to contribute to Pakistan’s peace, development, and scientific progress.

Summer Break to Be Announced After Ceremony

Officials confirmed that summer vacations will be declared after the completion of the May 28 ceremonies. This decision aligns the holiday calendar with the national observance while ensuring students participate in the day’s educational and patriotic engagements.

Youm-e-Takbeer and National Security

Youm-e-Takbeer marks the anniversary of Pakistan’s nuclear tests conducted on May 28, 1998, in Chaghai, Balochistan. These tests established Pakistan as the seventh nuclear power globally and the first in the Islamic world. The tests were a direct response to India’s nuclear activity, reinforcing Pakistan’s commitment to national sovereignty and strategic balance in South Asia.

While May 28 is a gazetted holiday nationwide, Punjab schools will instead mark the day with educational activities aimed at deepening students’ understanding of its importance.

Zil Hajj Moon Sighted: Hajj on June 5, Eidul Azha on June 6 in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia officially confirmed the Zil Hajj moon sighting on Tuesday, marking the beginning of the Islamic month on May 28. As a result, the Day of Hajj (Arafat Day) will take place on Thursday, June 5, while Eidul Azha will be celebrated on Friday, June 6. The announcement follows observations reported by moon sighting committees across the Kingdom.

UAE Aligns with Saudi Arabia

The United Arab Emirates also announced the successful sighting of the crescent moon, aligning its calendar with Saudi Arabia. The UAE declared that May 28 would be the first day of Zil Hajj and confirmed Eidul Azha celebrations for June 6.

Weather Initially Delayed Confirmation

Earlier in the day, dusty weather across several Gulf states had raised concerns over visibility. These conditions made it difficult to spot the Zil Hajj crescent, delaying official confirmations. Moon sightings are essential in Islamic tradition to determine the exact dates of key religious events, including Hajj and Eidul Azha.

Pakistan to Celebrate Eid a Day Later

In contrast, Pakistan’s Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announced that the moon was not sighted within the country on Tuesday. Therefore, Pakistan will observe the first day of Zil Hajj on Thursday, May 29. Eidul Azha will fall on Saturday, June 7, one day later than in Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

Global Observance Follows Lunar Tradition

The Islamic calendar, being lunar, means dates of religious observances can vary across countries depending on local moon sightings. While Gulf countries often follow Saudi Arabia’s lead, others like Pakistan rely on their national moon sighting authorities. This year again reflects that pattern.

As the sacred month of Zil Hajj begins, millions of Muslims worldwide prepare for the pilgrimage and the upcoming festival of sacrifice, marking a spiritually significant time across the Islamic world.

Macron Marriage Back in Spotlight After Viral ‘Slap’ Clip

A viral video showing French President Emmanuel Macron allegedly being slapped by his wife, Brigitte Macron, has reignited public interest in the Macron marriage. The president denied the incident was serious, calling it a playful moment. However, the clip stirred fresh debates about their unconventional relationship.

Teacher and Student Origins

Macron was only 15 when he met Brigitte, who was 39 and his literature and drama teacher at La Providence in Amiens. Brigitte was married and had three children at the time. Their connection began during a school play project in the early 1990s and quickly deepened.

Family Concerns and Separation

Emmanuel’s parents initially assumed he was dating Brigitte’s daughter. When they learned the truth, they reacted with concern and sent him to a boarding school in Paris. Yet Macron remained in contact with Brigitte and expressed his desire to marry her.

Years of Waiting

Brigitte chose to stay in her marriage for several years, prioritising her family. She eventually divorced her husband in 2006. A year later, she married Macron, then 29, while she was 54. Their wedding drew widespread attention for its significant age gap and teacher-student beginnings.

Public and Political Life

The Macron marriage has survived constant media attention and public scrutiny. Despite the unusual start, their bond remained strong. In 2017, Macron became France’s youngest president at 39—the same age Brigitte had been when they met. He credited her as a key influence in his life.

Stepping Into Family Roles

Now 47, Macron is stepfather to Brigitte’s children and step-grandfather to her grandchildren. Brigitte has stood by his side during two presidential campaigns, including his re-election in 2022.

Ongoing Online Debate

The recent “slap” clip triggered debates on social media about the nature of their relationship. While many see them as a devoted couple, others remain critical due to the relationship’s origins. The Macron marriage continues to divide opinion—but also captivates global attention.

Pakistan Extends PIA Privatisation Bid Deadline to June 19

The PIA privatisation process has been extended, giving investors more time to submit their Expressions of Interest (EoI). The government of Pakistan announced a new deadline of June 19, extending the original cutoff by 15 days from June 3. This move aims to boost investor participation in one of the country’s largest divestment efforts in recent years.

Extension Linked to Eid ul Adha

A senior Privatisation Commission official confirmed that the extension was granted due to the upcoming Eid ul Adha holidays. All other terms, including offering between 51% to 100% equity with full management control, remain unchanged.

Privatisation Linked to IMF Reforms

The PIA privatisation is part of broader reforms under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The goal is to reduce fiscal burden, streamline public enterprises, and attract foreign investment.

Incentives to Attract Buyers

To improve the deal’s appeal, the government has introduced incentives. These include exemptions on general sales tax (GST) for new aircraft and the removal of PIA’s debt from its balance sheet. This restructuring allows buyers to acquire a “net-zero balance sheet” company, avoiding the financial baggage that hindered past attempts.

Improved Offer vs Past Efforts

The current offer is simpler than the failed earlier bid, which offered 60% shares with a 15% optional top-up. That attempt collapsed due to PIA’s negative equity of Rs45 billion and a high 18% GST on aircraft. Now, with IMF-approved reforms, those liabilities are absorbed by the government.

Advisors and Outlook

EY Consulting LLC is advising the Privatisation Commission on this major transaction. However The government hopes to complete the PIA sale by the end of the year, aiming to revive investor confidence and deliver on key economic reforms.

Gold Prices Slide in Global and Local Markets

Gold price drop took center stage on Monday as both global and domestic markets recorded significant declines. In the international bullion market, gold lost $26 per ounce, settling at $3,331 after a three-day trading pause. The dip follows weakening investor demand and market corrections after last week’s surge.

Local Market Follows Global Trend

In Pakistan, local gold markets mirrored the global downturn. The price of 24-karat gold dropped by Rs2,600 per tola, now standing at Rs351,500. Gold per 10 grams also saw a notable decline of Rs2,228, bringing the price down to Rs301,354.

This sharp drop marks a reversal from Saturday, when gold prices had climbed. On that day, the per tola rate rose by Rs3,100, reaching a peak of Rs354,100 amid global gains.

Silver Remains Stable

While gold prices fell, silver held steady. One tola of silver stayed unchanged at Rs3,508, and 10 grams maintained a price of Rs3,007. This contrast highlights silver’s current price stability, even as gold shows volatility.

Market Dynamics Shift

Traders attribute the gold price drop to fading short-term demand and profit-taking by investors. After a strong rally last week, the market correction reflects cautious sentiment as global economic indicators fluctuate.

Looking Ahead

Analysts are watching central bank policies, inflation trends, and geopolitical tensions for their potential impact on gold prices. Despite the current drop, the long-term outlook for gold remains mixed, hinging on inflation fears and currency strength.

Gold continues to be a closely watched asset, and its price swings serve as a key indicator of investor confidence and economic expectations. As the week progresses, market participants will closely monitor any changes that could shift the current momentum.

Pakistan Slams Modi’s Speech as Dangerous Provocation

Pakistan has strongly condemned Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent remarks, calling them a “reckless provocation” that threatens regional peace. The comments, delivered during a political rally in Gujarat, targeted Pakistan’s anti-terrorism efforts and escalated tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.

Modi’s Remarks Spark Diplomatic Fire

Modi accused Pakistan of supporting terrorism and challenged its youth to take responsibility. He contrasted India’s focus on tourism with what he called Pakistan’s “terrorism tourism.” He also claimed Indian forces had previously destroyed Pakistani air bases and had retaliated “twice as hard” after Pakistan’s alleged recent attacks.

Pakistan’s Response: Irresponsible and Alarming

In response, the Foreign Office (FO) in Islamabad criticized Modi’s tone and content. “These hate-filled remarks violate international norms,” the FO stated, pointing to the United Nations Charter which calls for peaceful conflict resolution. The FO added that such rhetoric sets a dangerous precedent and lacks the maturity expected of a leader of a nuclear state.

Distraction From Kashmir Realities

Pakistan accused Modi of using inflammatory language to divert attention from human rights abuses and demographic changes in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). Islamabad maintained that its record in global peacekeeping and counterterrorism stands in contrast to India’s growing extremism and minority disenfranchisement.

Rising Tensions Since April

Tensions have escalated sharply since an April 22 attack in IIOJK killed 26 people. India blamed Pakistan without evidence, triggering a series of hostile actions. These included suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, cutting diplomatic ties, and targeting Pakistani cities with missiles.

Pakistan responded with airspace restrictions, trade halts, and military counterattacks. It also launched Operation Bunyanum Marsoos, striking Indian military assets.

Call for Global Attention

While a U.S.-brokered ceasefire has paused military strikes, Islamabad urged the international community to monitor India’s rhetoric, warning that such language undermines the chance for lasting peace in South Asia.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also denounced the attack, calling it an act of sabotage against a national cause. He promised decisive action against those targeting the polio campaign. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi echoed these sentiments, labeling the assault an attack on Pakistan’s future.

A Broader Threat

Balochistan Health Minister Bakht Muhammad Kakar called the killing a “cowardly and inhumane act” and pledged the state would respond forcefully to any threats against public health efforts.

Saudi Arabia to Observe Dhul-Hijjah Moon Tonight to Decide Eid al-Adha Date

Riyadh: Saudi Arabia will observe the crescent moon of Dhul-Hijjah 1446 AH tonight. The moon sighting will take place on Tuesday evening, 29 Dhul-Qa’dah / 27th May.

The Saudi Supreme Court has called on citizens and residents to look for the new moon. The sighting will determine the Islamic month of Dhul-Hijjah. This month includes the Day of Arafah and Eid al-Adha.

Moon Sighting Will Decide Eid Dates

The announcement is crucial for Muslims around the world. The Supreme Court will confirm whether the moon is visible or not. If sighted, Wednesday will be the first day of Dhul-Hijjah.

The Day of Arafah will fall on the 9th of Dhul-Hijjah. Eid al-Adha will be celebrated on the 10th. If the moon is not seen tonight, the current month will complete 30 days. In that case, Dhul-Hijjah will begin on Thursday.

Global Muslim Community Awaits Decision

Muslims worldwide are closely watching Saudi Arabia’s official announcement. Many countries follow the Saudi moon sighting for Islamic events. Millions await the dates for Hajj rituals and Eid prayers.

Eid al-Adha is one of the most sacred festivals in Islam. It commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah’s command. Muslims around the world offer animal sacrifices on this day and distribute meat among the needy.

Key Role of the Saudi Supreme Court

The Saudi Supreme Court plays a vital role in moon sighting decisions. It relies on both visual sightings and astronomical data. Religious scholars and moon sighting committees work together across different regions of the Kingdom.

Saudi citizens who spot the moon are asked to report to the nearest court or moon sighting center. The final decision will be made based on collective reports and testimony.

Hajj Pilgrims Prepare for Sacred Days

Meanwhile, thousands of pilgrims have already arrived in Saudi Arabia for Hajj. The announcement of Dhul-Hijjah will finalize their schedule. The Day of Arafah is the peak of Hajj, where pilgrims gather at Mount Arafat in prayer and reflection.

The Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah is overseeing final preparations. Officials are ensuring safety, accommodation, and transportation for pilgrims during the sacred days.

Pakistan also demanded that international bodies, including the UN, take immediate notice. It urged the global community to act against Israel’s repeated provocations.

Calls for International Intervention

The Foreign Office called on the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the United Nations to ensure protection of religious sites. It emphasized the need for urgent global attention to halt Israel’s aggression.

India-Pakistan Tensions Loom Large

The visit comes days after a major military escalation. On May 7, India launched unprovoked strikes in Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. These attacks killed at least 31 civilians.

Pakistan responded with full force. The Pakistan Air Force shot down six Indian fighter jets, including three Rafale aircraft. Several Indian drones were also destroyed.

In four days of fighting, over 40 civilians and 11 Pakistani soldiers were martyred. On May 10, both sides agreed to a ceasefire. This ended the worst cross-border violence in nearly three decades.

Pakistan Launches Diplomatic Counteroffensive

Pakistan has stepped up global outreach. The goal is to expose India’s propaganda and aggression. The country is working to build international support.

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will lead a high-level delegation. He will brief global leaders, lawmakers, and media outlets. The message is clear: Pakistan wants peace, not war.

Strategic Tour Aims for Unity

PM Shehbaz’s multi-nation tour reflects Pakistan’s commitment to regional harmony. After Turkiye and Iran, his presence in Azerbaijan underscores the importance of unity among Muslim nations.

Speaking to WDR, a public broadcaster, Wadephul expressed deep concern over the suffering in Gaza. He criticized the ongoing Israeli military campaign. “People are unable to access food and medicine,” he said. “That shocks me.”

Support for Israel Not Unconditional

Wadephul emphasized Germany’s historic support for Israel. However, he drew a clear line. “Our fight against anti-Semitism and our support for Israel’s security must not be used to justify this war in Gaza,” he stated firmly.

He warned against misusing Germany’s moral stance. “It cannot be instrumentalised,” he added, referring to Germany’s commitment to Israel’s right to exist.

Crisis in Gaza Deepens

His comments come as Gaza faces severe shortages. Hospitals are overwhelmed. Aid groups report rising hunger and disease. Thousands remain trapped under rubble or displaced.

Israeli airstrikes continue in response to Hamas attacks, but international pressure is growing. Many leaders and organizations are now demanding a ceasefire.

Germany at a Crossroads

Wadephul admitted Germany must reconsider its position. “We are now at a point where we have to think very carefully about what further steps to take,” he said. But he gave no details about what those steps might be.

Observers see his comments as a potential shift in Germany’s Middle East policy. Historically, Germany has been one of Israel’s strongest allies in Europe.

Public Opinion Shifting

Across Germany, public opinion appears to be shifting. Protests have erupted in Berlin and other cities. Thousands of citizens are calling for an end to violence in Gaza.

German officials face pressure from both sides. Some demand stronger support for Israel. Others want the government to condemn its actions in Gaza.

The international community is watching Germany closely. Its next steps could influence European Union policy. Several EU countries have already voiced concern over the humanitarian toll in Gaza.

Germany holds significant sway in diplomatic matters. Any change in its stance could signal a broader shift across Europe.

Boy Who Survived Deadly Airstrike Battles Physical and Mental Scars

A British surgeon treating Adam, the sole surviving child of Dr. Alaa al-Najjar, has raised serious concerns about the  future of the boy. Adam, who miraculously lived through an Israeli airstrike that killed nine of his siblings, may face long-term physical and mental health challenges, even if his body heals.

Dr. Graeme Groom, working at Nasser Hospital in Gaza, described the boy’s condition as heartbreaking. “Poor little Adam and his mother, and his father—if he survives—have endured an unimaginable tragedy,” Groom told Al Jazeera. He explained that Adam’s traumatic brain injury is still being assessed, and the emotional toll on the boy may last a lifetime.

Grief Without Closure

Adding to the family’s sorrow, the bodies of two of the children remain trapped under rubble. The Najjar family has been prevented from retrieving them for proper burial.

This loss is not just personal—it reflects the broader suffering of Palestinian families. Dr. Groom emphasized, “The people here in Palestine are extraordinarily resilient. But they don’t want to be known as resilient. They want the bombs to stop.”

Health Crisis Amid Conflict

Medical teams in Gaza face severe challenges. The healthcare infrastructure is overwhelmed, and doctors are dealing with complex trauma cases under constant threat.

Dr. Groom, one of several foreign surgeons volunteering in Gaza, highlighted the lasting consequences of such violence. “Even if Adam’s physical injuries heal, his brain trauma and psychological scars are likely to affect him for years.”

Gaza’s Children

Adam’s case has drawn global attention, symbolizing the price children are paying in the conflict. Human rights groups have repeatedly called for an immediate ceasefire and protection of civilians, particularly children.

Adam is now not only a survivor but a silent witness to a horrific loss. His recovery journey is uncertain, but it sheds light on the untold suffering of many Palestinian families.

SpaceX Engine Test Ends in Fiery Explosion at McGregor Base

A SpaceX McGregor explosion rocked the company’s Texas testing site during a static fire test of its advanced Raptor 3 engine. The dramatic blast lit up the facility with a fireball, alarming viewers watching live feeds and nearby residents.

Explosion During Routine Engine Test

The incident occurred during a routine test of the methane-fueled Raptor 3 engine. As the engine fired, a sudden explosion engulfed the test stand in flames. The cause remains unknown, but early assessments point to a possible engine failure or a malfunction in the test stand’s ground system equipment.

Propellant Risks Highlighted

The Raptor 3 engine uses highly combustible methane and liquid oxygen. Experts believe a leak or combustion irregularity could have triggered the fireball. Methane is known for its volatility, making even minor system flaws potentially dangerous during high-pressure tests.

Rapid Emergency Response

Emergency teams arrived quickly and extinguished the blaze within minutes. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. This outcome underscores SpaceX’s strong safety protocols, which prevented the situation from escalating further despite the scale of the explosion.

SpaceX Silent on Damage

As of now, SpaceX has not released an official statement on the extent of the damage or its impact on the Starship program. The Raptor 3 engine is a core part of SpaceX’s future missions, including deep space travel and potential Mars expeditions. Delays may follow if key hardware or infrastructure suffered significant damage.

Setback, Not the End

While dramatic, such failures are not unusual in spaceflight development. Industry experts emphasize that controlled testing environments are designed to expose weaknesses before real missions. Failures like these, though costly, provide valuable data and push improvements in rocket engineering.

The incident serves as a powerful reminder of the risks involved in building next-generation propulsion systems—and the resilience required to overcome them.
