Saudi Education and Training Evaluation Commission (ETEC), issued a statement that female students will no longer wear abayas in exam rooms.
According to the Ministry of Education and ETEC, which accredits educational and training systems, female students are required to wear school uniforms inside test rooms to comply with public decency laws in the country.
Female students tend to wear abaya or cloak in parts of the Muslim world including North Africa, the Arabian Peninsula, and many parts of the Middle East.

In 2018, Saudi Arabia also announced that the abaya would no longer be legally enforced.
Additionally, Saudi Arabia said in 2018 that the abaya will no longer be required by law in the same year.
The decision was taken by the kingdom’s Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman, as the country seeking to achieve expansion in women’s rights and consequently decided to take a decision to allow women to attend mixed public sporting events.

In an interview with CBS television in 2018 Mohammad said, “The laws are very clear and stipulated in the laws of sharia (Islamic law): that women wear decent, respectful clothing, like men.”
He further said, “This, however, does not particularly specify a black abaya or a black head cover.”
He added “The decision is entirely left for women to decide what type of decent and respectful attire she chooses to wear.”
