KARACHI: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has temporarily halted all flights using Iranian airspace following Iran’s missile attacks on Israel. This decision was made in response to official orders, according to news reported on Tuesday.

PIA’s spokesperson confirmed that flight schedules are being adjusted. The airline will avoid using Iran’s airspace until the situation stabilizes. This precautionary measure affects key routes. PIA uses two air corridors through Iran: the Northern Corridor for flights to Canada and Turkey, and the Southern Corridor for routes to the UAE, Bahrain, Doha, and Saudi Arabia.

In light of the escalating conflict, other countries have taken similar actions. Both Israel and Jordan have closed their airspace to civilian flights. Moreover, several international airlines have suspended services to Israel and Lebanon due to growing concerns over the ongoing war.

New Security Measures

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has implemented new measures to enhance security. The CAA has issued directives to Pakistan Air Traffic Control (ATC) to tighten surveillance of its airspace.

According to sources, ATC has been instructed to closely monitor all flights entering Pakistan from Iran and Afghanistan airspaces. These heightened security measures come amid the region’s increasing instability. The CAA emphasized the need for strict scrutiny of any aircraft approaching Pakistan’s airspace.

This move reflects Pakistan’s efforts to safeguard its airspace during the heightened geopolitical tensions between Iran and Israel. As the conflict continues to unfold, PIA’s decision is seen as part of broader steps to ensure the safety of passengers and maintain regional security.

For now, PIA flights are being rescheduled, and passengers are advised to stay informed about changes in travel plans. The airline is monitoring the situation closely and will resume normal operations once stability is restored in the region.
