Westerly Wave and Monsoon Currents to Trigger Widespread Rainfall

As monsoon alert conditions intensify, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast more rain and thunderstorms across the country.

Capital Braces for Rain

Islamabad is likely to experience partly cloudy skies with chances of rain and wind-thundershowers on Thursday and Friday. The PMD has predicted a 40% chance of rainfall on both days.

Rainfall Expands Across Provinces

The current weather system will affect Upper and South Punjab, the Potohar region, Southeast Sindh, South and Northeast Balochistan, Kashmir, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. On Thursday, isolated heavy rainfall is likely in parts of Upper Punjab and Southern Balochistan, shifting towards Kashmir and Southern Balochistan on Friday.

Sindh Forecast Remains Mixed

While most of Sindh will remain hot and humid, some districts — including Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mithi, Thatta, Badin, Sanghar, and Mirpurkhas — may see scattered thunderstorms. Karachi and nearby coastal areas could receive light rain on Thursday and Friday.

Punjab on Rain Radar

In Punjab, rain with isolated heavyfalls is forecast for Murree, Galiyat, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, and other cities including Multan and Bahawalpur. Conditions will largely continue into Friday, with slight variations.

Deaths and Damage Mount

At least 64 people have died and over 117 were injured in rain-related incidents across Pakistan over the past week, according to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). Khyber Pakhtunkhwa reported the highest number of casualties, including 10 children.

Monsoon Activity to Intensify

Authorities have advised the public, especially farmers and travellers, to stay alert and take preventive steps as the weather evolves.
