At least 11 people have died in northern Pakistan as flash floods and heavy monsoon rains batter the region. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a country-wide high alert, warning of continued downpours until July 11, with increased risk of flooding in streams and low-lying areas.
Rising Death Toll and Dangerous Weather
Since June 26, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has recorded at least 79 deaths across Pakistan due to rain-related incidents. The latest fatalities include two children and a woman electrocuted in Kasur, while others died in flash floods and lightning strikes.
In Islamabad, a boy named Mohsin fell into the Sharifabad drain and remains missing. Eyewitnesses say he tried to cling to the edges before being swept away by strong currents. Rescue teams continue searching near Gulberg and the Swat River.

Roads Submerged and Travel Disrupted
Urban flooding has paralyzed major cities. Lahore, Faisalabad, and Gujranwala reported submerged streets and traffic blockages. A viral video showed a motorcyclist being swept away by the overflowing Korang drain in Islamabad after attempting to cross it during the rain.
Meanwhile, Karachi received light to moderate rainfall in areas such as Gulshan-e-Hadeed and National Highway, causing minor delays but no major damage so far.
Landslide and Flood Risks in Mountain Regions
Mountainous areas in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), Murree, and Gilgit-Baltistan face increased risks of landslides due to saturated slopes. In Balochistan, thunderstorms are affecting Zhob and Sibi, while rivers in Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan have swelled, creating flood-like conditions.
Emergency Measures in Place
Authorities have advised the public to avoid travel in rain-affected areas and stay indoors. Emergency rescue teams have been mobilized to assist flood victims. The government continues to monitor the evolving situation and is urging residents to follow safety advisories closely.
With more rain expected in the coming days, communities are being urged to remain alert and cooperate with local authorities.
