Gazan Chef, Renad Atallah Inspire Hope Amid Hardship

In the war-torn Gaza Strip, food has become a symbol of resilience and unity, offering both sustenance and hope. Renad Atallah, a 10-year-old chef, has captured the hearts of nearly a million Instagram followers with her simple recipes and cheerful spirit, despite the daily challenges of life in Gaza. Her viral videos showcase not only her culinary skills but also the enduring strength of the human spirit in the face of adversity.

Cooking Amid Scarcity

Renad’s kitchen is a place of creativity, despite the limitations she faces. In her videos, she uses ingredients from food aid parcels to prepare dishes like Ful, a traditional Middle Eastern bean stew. The scarcity of staples such as milk, once affordable and accessible, now underscores the harsh realities of life in Gaza. Yet, her enthusiasm remains unshaken. “When I’m tired or sad, reading positive comments from viewers cheers me up,” Renad shared during a satellite interview.

Her older sister, Noorhan, expressed surprise at the overwhelming response to Renad’s videos. Their unexpected online fame highlights how food connects people across boundaries, even amidst conflict.

Another Voice of Resilience

Chef Hamada Shaqoura also shares glimpses of life in Gaza through his cooking videos. Working with aid supplies and a single gas burner, Shaqoura prepares meals that reflect both resourcefulness and resilience. He volunteers with Watermelon Relief, a charity dedicated to bringing moments of joy to Gaza’s children through sweet treats.

Shaqoura’s serious demeanor in his videos mirrors the gravity of the situation. “What you see on screen can never fully convey how hard life is here,” he said. His cooking videos serve as a poignant reminder of the struggles Gazans face daily.

A Humanitarian Crisis

The ongoing conflict has left nearly everyone in Gaza displaced. According to the United Nations, almost two million people are enduring critical levels of hunger. While aid agencies like the World Food Program strive to deliver food, challenges remain. Deliveries often face delays or obstructions, further exacerbating the crisis.

Antoine Renard, director of the World Food Program in the Palestinian territories, emphasized the urgency of unhindered humanitarian efforts. “For many, food provides comfort, but for most in Gaza, it’s about the uncertainty of the next meal,” Renard noted.

Food in Gaza is more than survival; it is a beacon of hope and humanity. Renad Atallah and Hamada Shaqoura remind the world of the resilience of those living through unimaginable hardships. Through their videos, they highlight the enduring strength of their community, even when resources are scarce.

In a region marked by conflict and scarcity, these chefs symbolize the power of food to bring people together, foster hope, and preserve a sense of normalcy amidst chaos. Their efforts inspire viewers worldwide, proving that even in the darkest times, the human spirit endures.

Hyundai and Kia Recall Over 208,000 EVs for Power Loss Issue

Hyundai and Kia have announced a major recall of more than 208,000 electric vehicles (EVs) due to a critical power loss issue. The recall aims to address a defect in the charging control unit that could lead to a sudden loss of drive power, posing a significant safety risk. This move highlights the automakers’ commitment to ensuring the reliability and safety of their EV technology.

Affected Models and Issues

The recall includes over 145,000 Hyundai and Genesis vehicles. Impacted models include the Hyundai IONIQ 5, IONIQ 6, Genesis GV60, Genesis GV70, and Genesis G80. Kia has also recalled nearly 63,000 EV6 models manufactured between 2022 and 2024.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) identified the problem in the transistors within the charging control unit. These components can fail and disrupt the charging of the 12-volt battery, resulting in a complete loss of drive power. This issue significantly increases the risk of accidents and compromises driver safety.

Read: Solar Expansion Drives Tariff Hike for Non-Adopters

Automakers’ Response

To resolve the problem, Hyundai and Kia dealerships will inspect the affected vehicles. They will replace the defective charging control unit and install a new fuse if necessary. Additionally, software updates will be provided to prevent future occurrences.

Importantly, owners whose vehicles were previously recalled for the same issue earlier this year will need to revisit their dealerships. This step ensures that all vehicles are comprehensively repaired and updated.

Timeline for Notification

Vehicle owners will receive notification letters from Hyundai and Kia in December and January. These letters will provide detailed instructions on scheduling repairs and addressing the issue promptly.

A Focus on EV Safety

The recall underscores the challenges automakers face as they transition to electric vehicles. While EV technology continues to evolve, manufacturers must prioritize rigorous testing and swift responses to potential defects.

Hyundai and Kia’s proactive recall highlights their dedication to maintaining customer trust and ensuring safety. By addressing the defect promptly, the companies aim to prevent potential accidents and improve the reliability of their EV lineup.

What Owners Should Do

If you own one of the affected vehicles, schedule a service appointment with your dealership as soon as you receive the recall notice. The repairs, including any necessary parts and software updates, will be provided at no cost to you. Taking immediate action can prevent potential issues and ensure the safe operation of your vehicle.

This recall serves as a reminder of the importance of addressing technical issues in EVs swiftly and thoroughly. As the industry moves towards electrification, maintaining high safety standards remains a top priority for manufacturers and regulatory bodies alike.

Renowned music maestro AR Rahman and his wife, Saira Banu, recently announced their separation after 29 years of marriage, leaving fans shocked. However, speculation linking their divorce to bassist Mohini Dey’s personal life sparked a wave of unfounded rumors. Addressing this misinformation, Rahman’s children strongly defended their father, urging respect for his legacy and personal life.

Son AR Ameen Calls Out Baseless Claims

AR Rahman’s son, AR Ameen, took to Instagram to refute the rumors. He expressed disappointment over the false claims circulating online.

“My father is a legend, not only for his extraordinary contributions to music but also for the values and respect he has earned throughout his life,” Ameen wrote. He highlighted the importance of truth and respect when discussing someone’s life, especially a figure as impactful as Rahman.

He urged people to stop spreading misinformation, emphasizing how damaging such baseless rumors can be to someone’s dignity. Ameen’s heartfelt appeal served as a reminder to preserve the legacy of a man who has inspired millions.

Daughters Khatija and Raheema Respond

Rahman’s daughters, Khatija and Raheema, also addressed the controversy. Raheema responded directly, criticizing those responsible for perpetuating the rumors. She wrote, “Rumors are carried by haters, spread by fools, and accepted by idiots. Get a life.”

Her sharp words underscored the family’s frustration with the baseless allegations. The sisters stood united in their support for their father, calling for respect and integrity in the face of unwarranted speculation.

The Importance of Respecting Privacy

Public figures often face intense scrutiny, but baseless rumors can harm not only their reputation but also their mental well-being. AR Rahman, a globally celebrated composer and Academy Award winner, has always maintained a dignified public persona. His family’s strong rebuttal highlights the need for responsible reporting and respectful discourse.

Social media platforms, while offering avenues for expression, often amplify misinformation. Rahman’s children used the same platforms to counter false narratives, turning the focus back to his achievements and legacy.

American Universities to Face Uncertain Future

As President-elect Donald Trump prepares for his return to the White House, American universities brace for significant changes in federal education policies. Trump’s strong opposition to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives could reshape the landscape of higher education. These initiatives, critical for ensuring equitable opportunities, are likely to be among the first targets of his administration.

Threats to Education Autonomy

During his campaign, Trump frequently criticized higher education institutions, calling for measures to reduce their autonomy. His plans include defunding schools that promote “critical race theory” and other DEI-related programs. Trump’s rhetoric underscores a broader conservative push to limit academic freedom and curtail the influence of DEI policies in education.

Linda McMahon, Trump’s pick for education secretary, has no apparent experience in the field. However, her appointment signals an intent to prioritize policy changes aligned with the administration’s vision. Vice President-elect JD Vance has also echoed Trump’s sentiments, describing universities as “hostile institutions.”

Focus on Diversity and Inclusion

DEI initiatives aim to address systemic inequities in higher education, offering support to historically marginalized groups. Conservatives, however, have derided these programs as “wokeism,” arguing that they perpetuate division and discrimination. Trump’s proposed policies include dismantling DEI offices, removing diversity officers, and revising curricula to eliminate references to terms like “privilege” and “oppression.”

These measures are part of a larger effort to centralize control over higher education. Critics fear that scrapping DEI initiatives would disproportionately harm underrepresented groups and undermine the core values of academic freedom.

State-Level Precedents

States like Texas and Florida have already implemented policies targeting DEI. In Texas, legislation forced universities to shut down diversity offices and revise course descriptions to exclude words like “equity” and “gender.” Florida’s governor, Ron DeSantis, signed a bill defunding DEI programs at public universities, framing them as tools of “discrimination, exclusion, and indoctrination.”

These state-level actions offer a blueprint for Trump’s federal policies. Education advocates warn that such changes could erode the autonomy of higher education institutions and stifle intellectual discourse.

Impact on Academic Freedom

Experts predict sweeping changes to curriculum oversight, hiring practices, and tenure policies. This shift threatens the long-standing tradition of academic independence in the U.S., where universities have historically been free from government interference.

Advocates emphasize the importance of resisting these efforts. Legal precedents support academic freedom, and universities are urged to protect students’ rights to learn without political constraints. Institutions must balance defending their values while preparing for possible regulatory challenges.

What Lies Ahead

While Trump’s return to power may not immediately transform higher education, the long-term implications are concerning. His administration faces numerous competing priorities, but its focus on reshaping higher education signals a critical challenge for universities.

As the future of DEI and academic freedom hangs in the balance, higher education leaders must remain vigilant. Their response will shape the survival of foundational principles that define American universities.

Iran to Hold Key Nuclear Talks Amid Rising Tensions

Iran has announced plans to engage in nuclear talks with France, Germany, and the United Kingdom later this week, signaling a critical juncture in ongoing efforts to resolve disputes over its nuclear program. The talks come amidst heightened international scrutiny and mounting diplomatic pressure following a recent UN resolution denouncing Iran’s lack of cooperation.

Focus on Nuclear Cooperation

The Iranian Foreign Ministry confirmed the meeting, emphasizing that the agenda will cover regional and international issues, including Palestine, Lebanon, and nuclear developments. Although the exact location remains undisclosed, both London and Tehran have affirmed their commitment to dialogue.

The announcement follows a resolution by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which censured Iran for insufficient cooperation. Of the 35-member body, 19 countries, including the three European participants, supported the resolution, while 12 abstained. Notably, Russia, China, and Burkina Faso opposed the measure.

Escalation in Nuclear Activities

Amid these developments, Iran revealed plans to significantly expand its uranium enrichment capabilities. Behrouz Kamalvandi, spokesperson for Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization, stated that advanced centrifuges would boost enrichment capacity, marking a notable escalation. Despite these measures, Iran maintains that its nuclear program is peaceful, repeatedly denying allegations of seeking nuclear weapons.

Tehran has pledged continued cooperation with the IAEA, but tensions persist. Recent reports indicate that Iran is nearing the 90% uranium enrichment threshold required for nuclear weapons production. While Iran claims it has initiated steps to cap its highly enriched uranium stockpile, these actions have done little to assuage international concerns.

Historical Context

The controversy surrounding Iran’s nuclear program dates back decades. In 2015, Iran reached a landmark agreement with major world powers, including the U.S., to limit its nuclear activities in exchange for sanctions relief. However, in 2018, then-President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew the U.S. from the deal, reinstating sanctions and exacerbating tensions.

Since the U.S. withdrawal, Iran has reduced its cooperation with the IAEA, deactivating surveillance systems and increasing its uranium stockpile. These moves have deepened mistrust between Tehran and the international community.

International Reactions

European nations remain committed to diplomatic efforts. The UK Foreign Ministry reiterated its stance on preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, emphasizing readiness to use measures like the snapback mechanism if necessary. The mechanism could reimpose UN sanctions on Iran, adding to its existing economic challenges.

Meanwhile, the IAEA continues to monitor developments closely. Director-General Rafael Grossi has stressed the importance of transparency and collaboration to address unresolved issues.

The Path Ahead

The upcoming talks between Iran and European powers could prove pivotal. As Iran increases its nuclear capabilities and international pressure mounts, finding common ground will be critical to averting further escalation.

With global security and regional stability at stake, the world watches closely as Iran and its counterparts navigate this diplomatic crossroads. Whether these discussions yield progress or deepen divides remains to be seen.

Philippine Vice President Threatens to Have President Marcos Killed

In a shocking online press conference on Saturday, Philippine Vice President Sara Duterte made a startling declaration. She said she had hired an assassin to kill President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and other top officials if she were to die unexpectedly. Duterte emphasized that her threat was serious and not a joke.

“I’ve given my order, ‘If I die, don’t stop until you’ve killed them,'” she said, referring to Marcos, his wife Liza Araneta-Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez.

Presidential Security on High Alert

Following Duterte’s threat, the Philippine government quickly acted. Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin referred the “active threat” against President Marcos to the Presidential Security Command (PSC) for immediate action. The PSC responded by strengthening Marcos’ security protocols, stating that they were closely coordinating with law enforcement agencies to detect and defend against any threats.

“We consider this a matter of national security and shall take all necessary measures to ensure the President’s safety,” the PSC said.

Tensions Between Marcos and Duterte

Duterte and Marcos ran together in the 2022 presidential election, winning by landslide majorities on a platform of national unity. However, tensions quickly rose between the two over differing policies, particularly towards Chinese aggression in the disputed South China Sea.

Duterte, the daughter of former President Rodrigo Duterte, has also accused Marcos, his wife, and allies of corruption and incompetence. The fallout between the two leaders has only intensified with time.

Trump Names Scott Bessent for Treasury Secretary Role

Duterte’s Threat Linked to Family Conflict

The vice president’s bombshell comments followed a recent incident in which House members allied with Marcos detained Duterte’s chief of staff, Zuleika Lopez. Lopez had been accused of obstructing a congressional inquiry into the misuse of the vice president’s budget. Lopez was transferred to a hospital after falling ill, prompting Duterte to speak out.

Duterte’s anger boiled over during her press conference when she accused Marcos and his allies of incompetence. She directed harsh criticism at Marcos, his wife, and Romualdez, calling them liars and using expletives in her remarks.

Duterte Claims Plot Against Her Life

Duterte also expressed concerns for her own safety. She suggested that there was an unspecified plot to kill her, prompting her to act. “Don’t worry about my security because I’ve talked with somebody,” she said, adding that she had ordered the assassination of Marcos and his allies in the event of her death.

Her public threat is serious. Philippine law criminalizes public statements that could be seen as threats to harm others. Such remarks can result in jail time and fines.

It remains unclear what legal actions, if any, will be taken against Duterte for her shocking declaration. The vice president’s comments have created a tense atmosphere in the government.

Nationwide WhatsApp Disruptions Spark Concerns in Pakistan

Internet users across Pakistan experienced significant issues connecting to WhatsApp on Saturday night. The disruptions began around 10 PM, with users reporting difficulties sending and receiving messages, particularly media files.

Outage tracking website Downdetector recorded a peak of 207 complaints within an hour. Approximately 67% of users reported trouble sending messages, while 16% faced problems receiving them.

Punjab and Sindh Hit Hard

The disruptions predominantly affected Punjab, with Karachi reporting the most significant impact in Sindh. Sporadic issues were also reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to Downdetector’s heat map.

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s Heroics Put India in Command in First Test

IT industry professionals noted challenges in sharing media files but were unable to determine the root cause of the problem. Internet service providers (ISPs) faced customer backlash over the sudden outage, with users expressing frustration at the inability to use the app effectively.

Speculation Over PTI Protest Link

In the absence of an official explanation, some users speculated that the outage was linked to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) high-profile protest in Islamabad on Sunday. WhatsApp disruptions have frequently coincided with major political events, including PTI protests.

Officials have previously attributed such issues to technical glitches or damage to submarine cables. However, no official statement was issued regarding Saturday’s outage.

Calls for Starlink Availability

On X (formerly Twitter), PTI-affiliated accounts launched a campaign urging Elon Musk to introduce Starlink in Pakistan. Starlink, a satellite-based internet service developed by Musk’s SpaceX, aims to provide reliable and low-cost internet access to remote areas.

The campaign highlighted growing concerns over Pakistan’s frequent internet disruptions and raised hopes for an alternative solution to the country’s connectivity challenges.

P@SHA’s Warning on Internet Restrictions

The outage occurred just days after the Pakistan Software Houses Association (P@SHA) warned the government about the repercussions of internet shutdowns and a potential virtual private network (VPN) ban. P@SHA emphasized the risks such actions pose to the IT industry and Pakistan’s digital economy.

Frequent outages and restrictions have fueled concerns about the government’s approach to regulating the internet, particularly during politically sensitive events.

Recurring Issue for WhatsApp Users

WhatsApp outages have become a recurring issue in Pakistan, often sparking public frustration and debates about internet freedom. The disruptions on Saturday night were the latest in a series of connectivity problems faced by users across the country.

As users struggle with unreliable internet services, calls for better infrastructure and alternative solutions like Starlink have gained momentum.

Despite widespread complaints, neither WhatsApp nor government officials provided any clarification about the outage. This silence has only deepened speculation and concerns among users and industry professionals alike.

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s Heroics Put India in Command in First Test

Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal played a stunning knock of 161 runs on day three of the first Test against Australia in Perth. The visitors ended the tea session at 359-5, building a commanding 405-run lead. Virat Kohli (40*) and Washington Sundar (14*) held the crease as India aimed for victory and an early edge in the five-Test series.

Jaiswal’s innings featured 15 fours and three sixes during a patient 297-ball effort. The 22-year-old seemed on track for a double century but was caught by Steve Smith at point off Mitchell Marsh’s bowling, earning a standing ovation for his performance.

Record Partnership with KL Rahul

Jaiswal and KL Rahul shared a record 201-run opening partnership. This surpassed India’s previous best opening stand in Australia, set by Sunil Gavaskar and Kris Srikkanth in 1986. Rahul contributed 77 runs before edging a delivery from Mitchell Starc to wicketkeeper Alex Carey.

Rahul, playing in place of Rohit Sharma, provided steady support to Jaiswal. Rohit is expected to return for the second Test in Adelaide, posing a selection dilemma for the team.

Australia Strike Back in the Middle Session

Australia fought back in the second session, taking four wickets, including Jaiswal’s. Devdutt Padikkal fell for 25, edging Josh Hazlewood to Smith at slip. Rishabh Pant was stumped by Carey after an aggressive charge against Nathan Lyon, and Dhruv Jurel was trapped lbw by Pat Cummins for just one run.

Despite these setbacks, Kohli and Sundar steadied the innings, ensuring India maintained their dominance heading into the final session.

Islamabad on High Alert, PTI Protest Sparks Heavy Security Measures

Jaiswal’s Journey from Struggles to Stardom

Jaiswal’s performance highlighted his incredible rise in international cricket. Growing up in the slums of Mumbai, he sold snacks to survive. His journey to becoming one of India’s premier openers is a testament to his determination and talent.

This was Jaiswal’s fourth Test century and his first in Australia. Since his debut innings of 171 against the West Indies in 2023, he has solidified his place in the Indian team. Concerns over his performance in Australian conditions were silenced after this masterclass, particularly after being dismissed for a duck in the first innings.

India Take Control After Australian Collapse

India’s dominance began on day two, when they bowled out Australia for a dismal 104 in reply to their own modest total of 150. Resuming their second innings at 172-0, Jaiswal and Rahul batted aggressively to pile on the pressure.

Jaiswal reached his century with a spectacular six off Hazlewood. His fearless approach set the tone for India’s dominance, with boundaries flowing early in the day.

Police officials confirmed that no protests or gatherings will be allowed near the jail.

70 Key Points Under CCTV Surveillance

Security measures include the deployment of 6,000 police personnel at key entry points. Authorities are monitoring 70 locations in Rawalpindi and Islamabad through CCTV cameras to ensure no protests disrupt the peace.

Officials stated that rallies, protests, or demonstrations will not be permitted in the twin cities.

Public Transport and Communication Services Suspended

The Rawalpindi-Islamabad Metro Bus service has been suspended. The Green Line service from PIMS to Bhara Kahu has also been halted.

Internet and mobile services have been disrupted across Rawalpindi and Islamabad. The Interior Ministry confirmed that communication services in high-risk areas have been suspended due to security concerns.

The Punjab-KP border at Attock Khurd is completely sealed. Security checkpoints have been established, and heavily equipped personnel are on alert.

Containers block main roads in Jhelum, and Faisalabad’s entry points are also closed. Motorways from Lahore, Peshawar, and Faisalabad to Islamabad remain inaccessible.

PTI Finalizes Protest Plans

Despite government restrictions, PTI has finalized its protest strategy. KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur plans to lead convoys from Swabi at 3 PM. Leaders and workers have been instructed to arrive at the protest site separately to avoid detection.

PTI has announced that the protest will continue until their demands, including the release of party founder Imran Khan, are met.

Government Warns of Strict Action

The government has also finalized its counter-strategy. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi warned that anyone taking the law into their own hands will be detained.

Defense Minister Khawaja Asif accused PTI of seeking to politicize violence. “They aim to use deaths for political gain. We will respond to any armed groups with full force,” he said.

The tense situation has put Islamabad on edge, with both sides preparing for a showdown.

Punjab Winter School Vacations 2024: Anticipated Dates

As winter sets in, parents and students across Punjab eagerly await the announcement of the Punjab winter school vacations 2024. Traditionally, the Punjab School Education Department schedules a mid-December break to shield students from harsh weather. This year’s schedule is expected to align with past patterns but may be adjusted due to environmental concerns like smog.

Expected Vacation Dates

The winter vacations in Punjab schools are anticipated to start on December 21, 2024 (Saturday), and run until January 1, 2025 (Wednesday). These dates mirror the typical two-week break observed in previous years. However, unforeseen factors such as extreme weather or worsening smog conditions could influence the final decision.

Last Year’s Winter Vacation Trend

In 2023, the initial holiday period from December 18 to December 31 was extended to January 9, 2024, due to severe smog. This precedent suggests that the government might take a flexible approach this year as well, prioritizing student health and safety over rigid schedules.

Smog’s Impact on Schools

Punjab’s ongoing smog crisis has already disrupted educational activities. Schools in cities like Lahore and Multan recently faced temporary closures due to poor air quality. In contrast, conditions have improved in regions like Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and Gujranwala, where schools have resumed normal operations.

To address these challenges, the Punjab Education Department has implemented updated Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for public and private institutions. These measures aim to ensure better air quality monitoring and safeguard students’ well-being.

Winter Breaks Across Provinces

While Punjab is currently in the spotlight, other provinces are expected to announce their winter vacation schedules soon. Parents across Pakistan should stay alert for official updates from their respective education departments to plan accordingly.

Awaiting Official Announcement

The Punjab School Education Department is likely to confirm the winter vacation schedule in the coming weeks. Students, parents, and educators are advised to stay prepared and monitor official announcements for any adjustments. The government’s decision will likely reflect a balance between maintaining educational continuity and addressing health and environmental concerns.

The anticipated break provides students a much-needed respite during the cold season, while also emphasizing the importance of safety in light of Punjab’s evolving weather conditions.

Sonam Kapoor Opens Up About PCOS and Its Impact on Her Confidence

Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor recently shared her struggles with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), a hormonal disorder that deeply affected her confidence during her teenage years. Speaking at Barkha Dutt’s We The Women summit, the Khoobsurat star revealed how she coped with the challenges of PCOS, offering a message of resilience to others dealing with similar issues.

Facing PCOS as a Teenager

Sonam disclosed that her PCOS diagnosis came during a pivotal time in her life. “I had something called Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. Because of that, I dealt with multiple hormonal issues. When I turned 16, I started gaining weight,” she shared, highlighting how society’s expectations made her experience more difficult.

Known as the “Sweet 16” phase, this is often portrayed as a time of beauty and transformation for young women. However, Sonam faced struggles that went beyond physical appearance. “I had facial hair and acne,” she added, recalling how these symptoms caused her significant emotional distress.

Coping with Criticism

Being the daughter of Bollywood superstar Anil Kapoor came with its own set of challenges. Sonam revealed she was subjected to harsh trolling during her youth. “People would say, ‘Oh, she’s Anil Kapoor’s daughter,’ followed by weird comments,” she said. Although she acknowledged that many of these hormonal changes subsided with age, the impact on her confidence was profound.

Finding Inspiration in Kajol

Sonam credited her mother for encouraging her to embrace her uniqueness. Her mother pointed to actress Kajol, who was then one of Bollywood’s leading stars and was known for her natural beauty, including her unibrow. “My mom showed me Kajol’s picture and said, ‘Look at her! She’s the biggest heroine right now.’ That gave me a lot of motivation,” Sonam recalled.

This perspective helped her view beauty differently and inspired her to face criticism with grace and determination.

Overcoming Trauma

Despite overcoming many of the physical challenges associated with PCOS, Sonam admitted the emotional trauma lingered. “I was traumatised by the experience,” she said, emphasizing the importance of discussing such issues openly to create awareness and support for others.

Her candid revelations have sparked conversations around body image, hormonal health, and societal pressures on young women, highlighting the need for empathy and understanding.

Solar Expansion Drives Tariff Hike for Non-Adopters

The rapid adoption of solar energy in Pakistan has led to significant cost shifts for non-solar power consumers, resulting in an additional Rs200 billion burden in fiscal year 2023-24. The report “The Distributed Divide – How Solar Expansion Affects Non-Adopting Consumers and Utility Economics,” highlights the growing need for regulatory reforms to address these solar-driven inequities.

Rising Costs for Grid-Dependent Users

The report reveals that increased reliance on behind-the-meter solar systems and net metering has raised tariffs by approximately Rs2 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) for grid-reliant users. Without regulatory action, the financial burden on non-solar consumers is expected to grow, with projected additional costs of Rs131 billion for a 5% drop in grid demand or Rs261 billion for a 10% reduction in the current fiscal year.

This trend reflects inequities in cost distribution, as solar adopters bypass fixed grid maintenance costs, shifting these expenses onto non-solar users.

Inefficiencies in the Current System

A typical 10kW net metering system enables solar adopters to avoid grid costs of Rs20 per unit. Behind-the-meter systems bypass an average of Rs7 per unit in fixed costs. While this saves money for solar users, it reduces energy sales for distribution companies (DISCOs). This reduction can be of 8-10% during daylight hours, leading to higher costs for grid upkeep.

The study warns that this imbalance risks creating a “death spiral,” where rising tariffs and declining grid revenues drive more consumers toward off-grid solar solutions.

Technical Challenges Strain Infrastructure

Solar expansion has introduced new technical challenges for DISCOs. Voltage instability, reverse power flows, and increased demand for frequency regulation and reactive power support strain existing grid infrastructure. These issues necessitate significant investments, further exacerbating financial pressures on the energy sector.

The report also highlights the “duck curve” phenomenon, where midday solar generation reduces grid demand sharply, followed by steep evening surges. This fluctuation complicates grid management and requires innovative solutions to stabilize power supply.

Recommended Reforms

To address these challenges, the report emphasizes immediate regulatory reforms. Key recommendations include:

  • Transitioning from Net Metering to Net Billing or Feed-in Tariff (FiT) Systems: This would help balance system marginal costs and lower tariffs.
  • Implementing Fixed Grid Access Fees: These would ensure fair cost distribution among all users.
  • Revising Distribution Codes: Adjustments would accommodate bi-directional power flows more effectively.
  • Creating an Ancillary Services Market: This would provide stability through enhanced frequency regulation and reactive power management.

Ensuring Sustainability

The rapid growth of solar energy in Pakistan underscores the need for sustainable and equitable solutions. While solar power offers environmental benefits, unchecked expansion threatens grid sustainability and fairness for non-solar users.

By implementing the proposed reforms, Pakistan can balance the benefits of solar energy. This approach ensures a fair distribution of costs and supports long-term grid stability. It will also safeguard the future of energy access for all consumers.

KL Rahul’s Resurgence Powers India’s Dominance in Perth

KL Rahul silenced critics with a commanding performance, putting India in control of the first Test against Australia in Perth. On Day Two, India closed at 172-0 in their second innings, with Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal leading the charge. The openers’ partnership gave India a commanding 218-run lead after bowling Australia out for 104 earlier in the day.

A Determined Comeback

Rahul, filling in for Rohit Sharma, delivered a steady and chanceless knock, finishing unbeaten on 62. His mature innings complemented Jaiswal’s aggressive 90*, creating a perfect balance at the crease. Critics had questioned Rahul’s consistency, but his 153-ball vigil showcased his resilience and ability to adapt under pressure.

“The way he handled the new ball was crucial,” said pacer Harshit Rana. “It made batting easier for the team later.”

Turning the Tide

Rahul’s gritty approach stood out in a match where most batters struggled. On Day One, he was the only top-order player intent on preserving his wicket during India’s collapse for 150. However, a controversial dismissal, where Snicko showed a faint edge off Mitchell Starc, ended his first innings at 26.

Despite online trolling and recent challenges, including being released by his IPL team, Rahul proved his worth as a dependable opener. His steady performance allowed Jaiswal to play freely, attacking the Australian spinners and keeping the scoreboard ticking.

Jaiswal Shines Alongside Rahul

Jaiswal’s dynamic innings added flair to India’s dominant position. He smashed Nathan Lyon for a six, bringing the crowd to life and capping a brilliant day for the visitors. The duo’s partnership left Australian bowlers searching for answers as captain Pat Cummins rotated his attack without success.

Coach Andrew McDonald admitted Australia’s struggles, stating, “We’re clearly well behind in the game. India have the upper hand at this stage.”

India’s Bowling Masterclass

Earlier in the day, India’s bowlers dismantled Australia’s batting lineup. Jasprit Bumrah led the charge, claiming his 11th five-wicket haul in Test cricket. His first delivery of the day removed Alex Carey, who nicked to keeper Rishabh Pant.

Harshit Rana supported Bumrah with a fiery spell, taking 3-48 and delivering key blows to Australia’s lower order. Mitchell Starc showed resistance with a gritty 26 but eventually fell to Rana, presenting a simple catch to Pant.

Australia’s Struggles

Starc’s brave effort, enduring body blows during his 112-ball stay, stood out in an otherwise dismal batting display. Australia’s top order failed to cope with India’s relentless pace attack, leaving the team with a mountain to climb.

The Road Ahead

With a strong opening partnership and a commanding lead, India looks poised to dominate the rest of the match. KL Rahul’s resurgence has not only strengthened India’s batting lineup but also boosted team morale.

As the Test unfolds, all eyes will remain on India’s openers to extend their advantage and cement their dominance in Perth. The stage is set for KL Rahul and Jaiswal to script a memorable win.

Sectarian Violence Claims Dozens in Pakistan’s Kurram District

Renewed sectarian clashes in Pakistan’s Kurram district have left at least 32 people dead and dozens wounded. The ongoing violence between Sunni and Shia Muslim groups in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province has escalated tensions in the region, following a recent deadly attack on a convoy.

Rising Death Toll

Officials confirmed that the overnight violence on Saturday claimed 14 Sunni and 18 Shia lives, with 47 others injured. A senior police officer reported that armed men from the Alizai and Bagan tribes targeted homes, shops, and government properties in the Lower Kurram area. The clashes involved intense gunfire and arson, adding to the devastation.

The death toll has risen steadily, with conflicting reports placing the number of fatalities at 32 or 33. Authorities remain cautious in releasing details as tensions persist.

Kurram’s History of Sectarian Strife

Kurram district, located in northwestern Pakistan, has long been a hotspot for sectarian violence. Its population is divided between Sunni and Shia communities, and historical grievances have fueled repeated conflicts. The area’s strategic location near the Afghan border exacerbates instability, making it a flashpoint for violence.

In recent days, the district has witnessed multiple attacks, including an ambush on a convoy that killed dozens. The renewed fighting reflects deep-rooted mistrust and a failure to address underlying issues.

Impact on Civilians

The ongoing clashes have displaced many families, forcing them to flee their homes in search of safety. With shops and houses torched, the affected communities face severe economic and emotional hardships. Basic services in the area remain disrupted, compounding the suffering of civilians caught in the crossfire.

Government officials and law enforcement agencies are working to restore order, but progress has been slow. Efforts to mediate between the rival tribes have yet to yield tangible results, leaving the region in turmoil.

Calls for Action

Local leaders and international observers have urged the Pakistani government to take decisive action. A senior administrative official emphasized the need for immediate intervention to prevent further escalation. “We must prioritize dialogue and reconciliation to bring lasting peace to Kurram,” he stated.

Analysts believe that addressing sectarian divides requires not only short-term security measures but also long-term socio-economic reforms. Improved access to education, healthcare, and infrastructure could help bridge gaps and reduce mistrust.

Escalating Regional Concerns

The violence in Kurram also raises broader concerns for Pakistan’s stability. Sectarian conflicts have the potential to spill over into neighboring regions, further straining resources and governance. As the country grapples with economic challenges and political uncertainty, resolving internal conflicts becomes even more critical.

The Path Ahead

The ongoing violence in Kurram highlights the urgent need for a comprehensive approach to address sectarian tensions. While immediate security measures can help contain the situation, sustainable peace will depend on efforts to rebuild trust and foster unity among the affected communities.

For now, the people of Kurram await relief from the cycle of violence that has plagued their region for years. The hope for peace remains fragile, but it is essential to ensure that this crisis does not deepen further.

Gaza Cola: A Symbol of Resistance and Freedom

In the heart of London, Gaza Cola is making waves as a drink with a purpose, offering consumers an “apartheid-free” and “genocide-free” alternative to mainstream cola brands. Launched by activist and entrepreneur Osama Qashoo, the beverage is more than a drink—it’s a statement against oppression and a rallying point for those supporting Palestinian freedom.

A Beverage with a Mission

Gaza Cola, adorned with the colors of the Palestinian flag and Arabic artwork, is crafted to symbolize resistance and solidarity. Qashoo, a Palestinian activist and founder of several movements challenging the Israeli occupation, created the cola in November 2023. His aim was to provide a guilt-free alternative to brands accused of supporting Israeli military actions in Gaza.

“This isn’t just cola; it’s the real taste of freedom,” Qashoo says. The product represents his vision for “trade, not aid,” promoting economic empowerment while raising awareness about Palestine.

A History of Activism

Qashoo’s journey to creating Gaza Cola is deeply rooted in activism. Forced to flee Palestine in 2003 after organizing peaceful protests, he became a refugee in the UK and later a filmmaker. His projects, including the award-winning A Palestinian Journey trilogy, amplified Palestinian stories.

In 2007, he co-founded the Free Gaza Movement, which aimed to challenge the blockade on Gaza. His activism often came at great personal cost—he faced arrest, torture, and the loss of his cameraman during the Gaza Freedom Flotilla mission in 2010.

Today, Qashoo channels his activism through entrepreneurship. His restaurants in London, serving Palestinian and Lebanese cuisine, now stock the new Cola, aligning his culinary business with his cause.

Building a Boycott Movement

The all new Cola is part of a larger movement to boycott brands perceived as complicit in Israeli policies. Qashoo emphasizes that hitting corporations financially forces them to reconsider their practices. Gaza Cola has already sold 500,000 cans through Qashoo’s restaurants and online retailers, despite challenges in securing broader distribution.

The drink is priced higher than mainstream brands, with proceeds directed towards rebuilding the maternity ward at Gaza’s al-Karama Hospital. “Every can sold supports the Palestinian cause,” says Qashoo.

Global Impact of Boycotts

Gaza Cola isn’t alone in its mission. Similar initiatives, such as Sweden’s Palestine Drinks and Jordan’s Matrix Cola, are gaining traction. These alternatives have sparked conversations about consumer responsibility and the power of boycotts.

Experts like Jeff Handmaker, a professor at Erasmus University, argue that such campaigns are not solely about financial impact but about raising awareness. The all new Cola’s bold branding and message achieve this goal, reminding consumers of the ongoing struggles in Palestine.

Looking Ahead

Despite initial challenges, Qashoo remains determined. He plans to introduce a fizzier version of Gaza Cola while expanding its reach. For him, the drink is more than a product—it’s a tool to ensure the world doesn’t forget Palestine’s decades-long struggle.

“Every sip of Gaza Cola is a reminder,” Qashoo says. “A reminder of resistance, freedom, and the enduring spirit of Palestine.”

UAE Struggles in Final Overs as Thailand Takes Key Wickets

In a thrilling encounter during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 Asia Qualifier B, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) faced a dramatic collapse towards the end of their innings. Despite solid contributions from the middle order, Thailand’s bowlers produced key breakthroughs that changed the course of the match.

The 19th over saw a pivotal moment in the game as Nitish Salekar took two important wickets in quick succession. The first was Muhammad Zuhaib, who was dismissed in a dramatic fashion. Salekar bowled to Zuhaib, who was caught by the bowler himself, giving Salekar a well-earned wicket. The final delivery of the over was also a wide, adding to the tension as the UAE team looked to rebuild. Salekar’s efforts didn’t stop there, as he maintained pressure throughout the over, forcing multiple wides.

Before the dismissal, the UAE’s Dhruv Parashar managed to gather some much-needed runs. He hit a six and a four in the earlier deliveries, showcasing his hitting power. Parashar played a key role in attempting to stabilize the UAE innings by making valuable contributions towards the final overs. His four, played toward the covers, and the six, which found the mid-off boundary, kept the scoreboard ticking.

Chanchai Pengkumta’s Impactful Over

In the 18th over, Chanchai Pengkumta played a vital role in keeping the pressure on the UAE batting line-up. He struck first with the wicket of Syed Haider, who had been in good form, scoring 16 runs off 10 balls. Haider was dismissed after a sharp catch by Austin Lazarus, which left the UAE team under more pressure.

Earlier in the over, Haider had managed to hit a four and a six, both of which were played powerfully towards the mid-wicket boundary. These shots showcased Haider’s intent to score big in the death overs but were followed by his unfortunate dismissal, which shifted the momentum in Thailand’s favor.

The fall of another wicket soon followed, as Ali Naseer was caught off a delivery from Pengkumta. Naseer, who had made a quick 12 runs off 7 balls, was dismissed by a catch from Yodsak Saranonnakkun, adding to Thailand’s tally of crucial wickets.

Tense Final Overs

As the game reached its final overs, UAE’s lower order struggled to finish strong, and the Thai bowlers capitalized on the pressure. Despite efforts from Parashar, who managed to play some crucial shots, including a four and a six, the loss of key wickets took a toll on UAE’s total. The fall of wickets like Haider and Naseer highlighted the difficulties of batting under pressure in the final overs.

With wickets falling quickly in the final stages of the innings, the UAE’s chances of posting a dominant total were significantly hampered. The loss of wickets in the last few overs shows the importance of stability and composure in the death overs of T20 cricket.

Australian Vlogger Luke Damant Faces Harassment in India

Australian travel vlogger Luke Damant recently posted a video on Facebook, sharing an uncomfortable incident during his visit to India. While traveling in a local auto-rickshaw, Luke encountered a situation where a trans woman harassed him, repeatedly invading his personal space. The incident left Luke feeling helpless and frustrated, prompting him to caption the post, “I feel like a victim in my own tuk-tuk.”

The incident occurred while Luke was riding in a rickshaw. A trans woman in the vehicle began persistently invading his personal space, causing him significant discomfort. Despite his visible unease, the rickshaw driver did not intervene to help or stop the situation, leaving Luke to handle the encounter alone.

“I feel like a victim in my own tuk-tuk.”

Luke recorded and uploaded the video on Facebook, shedding light on the harassment he faced. The caption reflected his emotional state and highlighted the sense of vulnerability he felt in a place where he expected to feel safe.

Social Media Reactions

The video quickly gained attention on Facebook, garnering over 15,000 reactions in a short time. To Luke’s surprise, many users reacted with a “haha” emoji, treating the incident as a source of humor rather than concern.

This response sparked a wave of debate in the comments section. Some viewers expressed shock and dismay at the lack of empathy for Luke’s ordeal, questioning whether the reactions would have been the same if the victim had been a woman.

Others criticized the trivialization of harassment, pointing out that gender should not determine the seriousness of the issue.

A Need for Empathy

Luke’s experience has ignited important conversations about societal attitudes toward male victims of harassment. Many commenters highlighted how such incidents are often dismissed or downplayed when the victim is a man. This dismissive attitude perpetuates harmful stereotypes and makes it harder for male victims to seek support or speak up.

The lack of intervention by the rickshaw driver also drew criticism, with viewers emphasizing the importance of bystanders stepping in to help victims in uncomfortable or threatening situations.

Raising Awareness

Luke’s decision to share his experience publicly has drawn attention to the challenges people face in public spaces, particularly when traveling. The incident also sheds light on the broader issue of how harassment is perceived based on the victim’s gender, sparking calls for greater awareness and sensitivity toward such incidents.

AUS vs IND: Thrilling Day 1 in Perth, Bowlers Dominate Border-Gavaskar Trophy

The opening day of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test in Perth saw a breathtaking contest between bat and ball. Pacers from both sides dominated, leaving the game delicately poised as India claimed a slight advantage. With 17 wickets falling, the stage is set for another dramatic day of Test cricket.

Australia’s pacers struck early after electing to bowl on a lively Perth pitch. Josh Hazlewood spearheaded the attack with a brilliant four-wicket haul, exploiting the conditions expertly. Debutant Nitish Kumar Reddy provided resistance with a gutsy 41, forging a critical stand with Rishabh Pant. However, India’s innings ended at a modest 150, leaving them vulnerable.

Bumrah Leads India’s Fightback

India’s reply with the ball was electric. Skipper Jasprit Bumrah led the charge, claiming four wickets with a fiery display of pace and precision. He dismantled Australia’s top order, removing Khawaja, McSweeney, and Smith within a few overs. Support from Siraj and Harshit Rana ensured Australia was reeling at 19/3 by the first hour.

Accountability Court Issues Arrest Warrant for Bushra Bibi in Graft Case

Middle-Order Collapse and Carey’s Resistance

Australia’s middle order crumbled under relentless pressure. Labuschagne and Marsh fell cheaply, with Rana delivering a peach of a delivery to dismiss Travis Head. Mitchell Starc and Alex Carey attempted damage control, but by stumps, Australia was precariously placed at 67/7, trailing India by 83 runs. Carey’s unbeaten 19 offered the hosts a glimmer of hope for Day 2.

Pace Rules the Day

All 17 wickets fell to pacers, a testament to the pitch’s assistance and the bowlers’ skill. The new ball dominated, with lateral movement and bounce making batting a tough ask. Batters from both sides struggled to find rhythm, and the low-scoring thriller promises more fireworks on the second day.

As the action resumes on Saturday, India will aim to wrap up Australia’s innings quickly. With the lowest-ever total of 83 against India looming, Australia’s hopes rest on Alex Carey’s shoulders. On the other hand, the storied rivalry ensures no shortage of surprises, and a thrilling day awaits cricket fans worldwide.

Accountability Court Issues Arrest Warrant for Bushra Bibi in Graft Case

An accountability court in Rawalpindi issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for former first lady Bushra Bibi on Friday. The court cited her continuous absence from hearings in the £190 million graft case.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) filed a corruption reference in December last year. The case accused Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and seven others, including his wife, Bushra Bibi, of misusing public funds.

The allegations claim the couple obtained billions of rupees and land from Bahria Town Ltd to legalize Rs50 billion. This amount was recovered by the UK and returned to Pakistan during the PTI government.

The couple was indicted in February. The Islamabad High Court (IHC) remanded the case to the accountability court earlier this month, directing it to issue a decision.

Imran Khan Defends Bushra Bibi Amid Saudi Arabia Controversy

Hearing Details and Arrest Warrant

Accountability Judge Nasir Javed Rana presided over the hearing at Adiala Jail. Bushra Bibi, citing medical reasons, requested an exemption but failed to appear.

The judge adjourned the hearing to November 26 and issued her non-bailable arrest warrant. The order directed NAB Deputy Director Mian Umar Nadeem to ensure her arrest and production in court at the next hearing.

The warrant stated Bushra Bibi had been “deliberately avoiding court appearances.”

Bushra Bibi’s Detention and Bail History

Bushra Bibi was previously released from Adiala Jail on October 24. She had been detained since January 31 after being convicted in the Toshakhana case.

The Peshawar High Court extended her protective bail until December 23. The court also directed authorities not to arrest her in any other cases until that date.

Imran Khan’s Legal Struggles Continue

Separately, Imran Khan was granted bail in a new Toshakhana case by the IHC on Wednesday. His lawyer, Khalid Yousaf Chaudry, confirmed that his release order was issued on Friday.

The release order was submitted to Adiala Jail’s administration. However, Khan remains in custody due to bail requirements in nearly two dozen other cases. He was also arrested late Wednesday on terrorism charges related to a September protest.

CM Gandapur Declared Absconder

In a separate development, Islamabad Anti-Terrorism Court Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra declared Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur a proclaimed absconder.

The order, issued Thursday, stated Gandapur had “deliberately concealed himself to avoid arrest.” It was linked to a case registered at I-9 police station in Islamabad.

The declaration underscores a broader legal crackdown involving several PTI leaders and their alleged misconduct.

Bushra Bibi is expected to be arrested and presented in court on November 26. Imran Khan faces continued legal challenges while remaining in custody. The PTI’s legal troubles intensify amid escalating political tensions in Pakistan.

West Indies Hold Edge as Day 1 Ends in Test Against Bangladesh

Bangladesh started the day strong after opting to bowl first. Pacers Shoriful Islam and Hasan Mahmud delivered disciplined opening spells. Taskin Ahmed made the early breakthroughs, dismissing Kraigg Brathwaite and Keacy Carty to leave the West Indies struggling. At lunch, the visitors looked in control, eager to maintain momentum.

The afternoon session saw Mikyle Louis leading the West Indies’ fightback. His gritty 71 off 166 balls steadied the innings. A partnership with Kavem Hodge, who scored 25, helped the hosts rebuild. Hodge’s run-out briefly disrupted their progress, but Louis found support in Alick Athanaze. Together, they added 32 crucial runs for the fourth wicket. Bangladesh’s spinners, Mehidy Hasan and Taijul Islam, kept probing without success.

Athanaze and Louis Shine in Evening Session

The final session belonged to the West Indies as Alick Athanaze and Mikyle Louis showcased a counterattack. The pair added over 100 runs, steering their side to a commanding position. Both batters stormed into their 90s but fell just short of centuries. Louis was the first to depart after a shaky period, followed by Athanaze, who succumbed to Taijul Islam’s spin.

New Ball Backfires for Bangladesh

Bangladesh took the second new ball in the last hour, hoping to regain control. However, the plan backfired as Joshua Da Silva and Justin Greaves countered with quick runs. Their partnership ensured the West Indies ended the day at 250/5, setting a solid foundation for Day 2.

Key Performances

  • Mikyle Louis: Anchored the innings with a determined 71.
  • Alick Athanaze: Played a fluent knock, scoring 90 before falling to Taijul Islam.
  • Taskin Ahmed: Claimed two crucial early wickets.
  • Taijul Islam: Dismissed Athanaze and provided crucial breakthroughs for Bangladesh.

Despite losing momentum in the evening, Bangladesh will aim for early wickets on Day 2 to restrict the West Indies under 300. Their bowlers must capitalize on the favorable morning conditions to regain control.
