Pakistan’s T20I squad for the upcoming series against Bangladesh has undergone major changes due to key injuries. With Shadab Khan recovering from shoulder surgery and Haris Rauf sidelined by a hamstring injury, the team will enter the three-match tour with a revamped lineup under the captaincy of Salman Agha.
New Faces Step In
The T20I series will take place in Mirpur, Dhaka, from July 20 to 24. Unlike the previous home series against Bangladesh in May-June, where Pakistan swept 3-0, this squad includes several newcomers. Uncapped pacers Ahmed Daniyal and Salman Mirza, along with left-arm wristspinner Sufiyan Muqeem, join the side.
Hasan Nawaz, after a standout PSL season, returns with just eight T20Is under his belt. Medium pacer Abbas Afridi, with 21 matches of experience, brings relatively more stability to the bowling unit.

Key Players Left Out
Apart from Shadab and Rauf, selectors also dropped Irfan Khan Niazi, Mohammad Wasim, Naseem Shah, and Hasan Ali. Hasan, the top wicket-taker in the last Bangladesh series, remains in England to continue county cricket. Naseem and Shaheen Afridi are being considered for Pakistan’s ODI plans and are not part of this T20I setup.
PSL Form Earns Spots
Performance in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) played a big role in selections. Abbas Afridi claimed 17 wickets in 11 games for Karachi Kings. Salman Mirza impressed with nine wickets in just four matches for Lahore Qalandars. Nawaz finished as the third-highest run scorer, tallying 399 runs at a striking rate of 162.19 for Quetta Gladiators.
Eyes on the 2026 T20 World Cup
This will be the second T20I series under new white-ball coach Mike Hesson. With the 2026 T20 World Cup approaching in India and Sri Lanka, Pakistan is clearly testing new combinations.
The PCB is also in talks with Cricket West Indies to convert their upcoming ODI series into T20Is, aiming to fine-tune preparations for the mega event.
