Karachi: More than 25 million new users from around the world have joined Telegram in the past “72 hours alone” after the controversy about WhatsApp’s new privacy policy stirred up on social media.

Nearly 38% of people from Asia, 27% of users from Europe, 8% from MENA, and 21% from Latin America have started using the application after its popularity that rise as the instant messaging app, Whatsapp users were seeking alternatives.

Cryptocurrency down by 200 billion in 24 hours

Karachi: The deliberate decline in the market value of cryptocurrency by 200 billion in 24 hours. Market analysts have called the decision “risky” for investors.

According to Forbes Magazine, 200 billion has been wiped off from the market in the last 24 hours.

The decline was recorded after the cryptocurrency’s market value rose 100 percent last month.

Market experts called the unexpected decision dangerous for investment and said that people’s entire capital could sink.

Motorway gang-rape case: accused is shifted to Lahore after his arrest

Karachi: The challan of Abid Malhi, the main accused in the motorway abuse case, and his accomplices, has not been produced yet nonetheless cash rewards have been delivered to police personnel.

Saudi Arabia announces new petrol prices

Karachi: Saudi Aramco has issued new rates for January 2021 with the increase in petrol prices.

According to the new rates released by Saudi Aramco, the rate of 91 petrol has been fixed at 1.62 riyals per liter while the price of octane 95 has been fixed at 1.75 riyals per liter.

The new prices that are issued by Saudi Aramco have been increased by January as compared to December. The new petrol prices will be applicable from January 11.

It should be noted that Saudi Aramco announces new petrol rates on the 10th of every month with effect from the next day.

 

Muhammad Siraj faces racial bias, David Warner apologizes

Karachi: David Warner apologized after an Australian fan in the stadium hurled a racial slur at Muslim cricketer Muhammad Siraj in Australia.

It is to be noted that Muhammad Siraj was subjected to racist remarks by cricket fans in the stadium on the third day of the Sydney Test during a tour of Australia with the Indian cricket team.

David Warner, according to foreign media reports, strongly condemned the incident that took place with Muhammad Siraj.

In a message on Instagram, Warner wrote, “I want to apologize to Muhammad Siraj because racist phrases are not acceptable in any way and anywhere.”

“I would expect better from our home crowd” he continued.

Khan askes the federal cabinet to investigate bribery claims against Sharif

Karachi: Prime Minister Imran Khan, on Tuesday, during the meeting, instructed to give investigation report on bribery claims against former Premier PML-N Leader Nawaz Sharif.

According to the reports, PM Imran Khan presided the meeting of the federal cabinet which briefed about the Broadsheet subject against Nawaz Sharif.

Khan assigned the task to the Information Minister and ordered to make investigation report public.

WhatsApp addresses rumors

Karachi: WhatsApp on Tuesday took to social media to clear the air of confusion and addressed the rumors about the new privacy policy that was introduced in 2021.

WhatsApp said in a post that “We want to address some rumors and be 100% clear we continue to protect your private messages with end-to-end encryption.”

Our privacy program does not influence the secrecy of users’ messages with family or friends,” added WhatsApp.

The application took to Facebook clarify and shared the picture of every item in the privacy policy.

You can choose which messages to vanish and which ones to be kept, WhatsApp allows you to “set your messages to disappear”.

To protect it from any form of abuse and spam WhatsApp has kept your groups private and so neither WhatsApp nor Facebook can see the content.

And now the most popular one which sparked a lot of debate on social media, WhatsApp does not share your contacts with Facebook.

Users became instantly vindictive when they learned their personal information is going to be shared with Facebook. Now, this would bring a decade of peace to WhatsApp users.

A large number of users had been already shifted to other social applications when the news about the new policy came to light.

Jawad Ahmad pays tribute to Indian protesting Farmers in his song

Karachi: Pakistani renowned singer, Jawad Ahmad, in his recent track paid homeage to the peasants in India who have been protesting for their rights. The song soon becomes viral on social media.

The song was released in December last year and received millions and thousands of views as of now.

The farmers stood up against the law, introduced by Modi’s government, that arguably threaten and snatch their due rights.

NEPRA takes Notice of power breakdown in the country

Karachi: After an hours-long breakdown occurred on 9 January, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has taken notice of the power malfunction in the country and has formed a high-level committee to probe into the matter.

The committee will consist of NEPRA officers, experts, and engineers in order to make sure that the ordeal doesn’t take place in the future.

The committee will investigate and try to know the causes of the power blackout and will make recommendations to address such incidents.

Karachi: The National Information Technology Board has alerted the users of WhatsApp about a “malicious video”. It had urged people to refrain from opening the link.

A malicious video is circulating on WhatsApp called “Argentina” that hacks your phone in 10 seconds, according to National IT Board’s tweet.

“I am perfectly all right everybody” Shoab Malik confirms

Karachi: After escaping a deadly car accident on Sunday, Pakistani cricket sensation, Shoaib Malik, used social media platforms to assure his fans that he is unhurt and “all right”.

Pakistani cricket team’s former captain Shoaib Malik met with an accident on 10 January shortly after he attended the Pakistan Super League Draft ceremony at PCB headquarters.

But the star cricketer remained unhurt in the car crash. Later on, he took to Twitter to inform his fans that “I am perfectly all right everybody”.

Malik thanked Almighty Allah for saving his life saying that “Almighty has been extremely Benevolent”.

Shoaib Malik also thanked his fans who love him dearly, he wrote in his tweet “Thank you to each one of you who’ve reached out. I am deeply grateful for all the love and care…” continued he.

 

Coronavirus confirmed in 1,877 people, 32 died in Pakistan

Karachi: People in Pakistan remained in the grip of the deadly Coronavirus as 1,877 more people caught the virus in one day while 32 more people lost their lives.

The National Command and Operations (NCOC) Center has released the latest statistics of the infected people with the COVID-19 in Pakistan. An increase in the cases has been noticed.

In the last 24 hours in Pakistan, 1,877 new cases were reported across the country, the number of corona patients in Pakistan increased to 504,293.

According to the National Command and Operations Center, Sindh was most affected by the coronavirus, where the number of corona patients reached 226,338, while in Punjab, 145,508 people fell victim to corona.

Besides, 61,424 cases of Covid-19 have been reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 39,242 in Islamabad, 18,412 in Balochistan, 4,880 in Gilgit-Baltistan, and 8,489 in Azad Kashmir.

According to the National Command and Operations Center, the global pandemic has killed many people across the country, with 32 more patients dying from the coronavirus in 24 hours, bringing the death toll to 10,676.

A total of 7,122,538 people have been tested across the country so far.

WhatsApp founder’s explanation comes to light after so much criticism

Karachi: The new policy will not affect users and their data will not be shared with anyone, explained the WhatsApp head. “Neither we nor Facebook can see your private messages or calls,” added Will Cathcart.

Will Cathcart, head of the Leading social and messaging mobile application, WhatsApp, has explained the new policy after severe consumer criticism over the change in the privacy policy.

Will Cathcart took to Twitter to clear the air confusion that sparked so much debate on social media platforms aimed at lashing out at WhatsApp’s new policy.

He assured the users that they will not be affected by the new policy and their data would not be provided to anyone.

Cathcart said due to end-to-end encryption, neither we nor Facebook can see your private messages or calls.

He clarified in a detailed statement on Twitter, which was also retweeted by WhatsApp.

The owner said, “we are committed to providing this technology and defending it globally and updated our policy for transparency.”

the head of WhatsApp explained that the company updated its policy for the sake of transparency and to provide better optional people-to-business features.

The application will only let Facebook access commercial data to aid people involved in a business that wants to target consumers.

“At our core, that’s the ability to message or call loved ones freely protected by end-to-end encryption and that’s not changing,” he added.

Our Foes are trying to divide us says Pakistan Army spokesman

Karachi: Major General Babar Iftikhar, Director General, Pakistan Army Public Relations, ISPR, said that the last ten years were challenging for Pakistan but despite the challenges, we remained united and faced difficulties.

He further said that the enemy forces are trying to divide us.

During a media briefing, the DG ISPR said that successful operations against terrorism were carried out by the Pakistan Army, the counter-terrorism operation has improved the overall security situation.

Major General Babar Iftikhar mentioned that the Pakistani nation is united and faced challenges, he assessed ten years as to how the Pakistan army dedicatedly faced challenges and restored peace in the country.

Suicide attacks reduced to 97%, terrorism in Karachi dropped to 95 percent while kidnappings for ransom decreased to 98 percent.

In two decades, India has escalated provocations on the eastern border.

However, the Pakistan Army has always responded to Indian violations. Pakistan has always proved to be a responsible state, he added.

There are 199 projects that have been launched in Balochistan. Today, Alhamdulillah, the DG ISPR exclaimed, the tribal areas have become part of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Harassment case: The Supreme Court grants singer Mesha Shafi’s appeal for a preliminary hearing

Karachi: Meesha Shafi’s hearing appeal against the Lahore High Court has been approved by the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

The Supreme court, according to the details has granted the appeal of singer Mesha Shafi for a preliminary hearing as the SC demanded an explanation on the definition of “sexual harassment”.

In a tweet, Meesha Shafi shared the news and said “Tomorrow, the Supreme Court of Pakistan hears my appeal on whether I, a ‘self-employed person’ have a right, as per the law, to be heard after being harassed and therefore expect justice on merit as an equal citizen.”

Noor Ejaz Chaudhry also took to Twitter and informed in his tweet that the “Leave granted by the Supreme Court of Pakistan in Meesha Shafi vs The Governor of Punjab to consider whether all women, including students, are covered under Pak’s harassment law.”

He went on to write that “We’re very proud today & for Mr. Khwaja Ahmad Hosain for the most brilliant advocacy!”

The indian firing along LoC leaves two wounded

The Indian army once again resorted to unprovoked ceasefire violation along the Line of Control and targetted the non-military population.

The Inter-Service Public Relations (ISPR) informed that the two elderly civilians were injured as the Indian army opened indiscriminate fire.

The wounded belonged to the same family and were rushed to the hospital for immediate treatment.

India has resorted to ceasefire violation almost 38 times while the earlier violation was the first casualties of 2021.

WhatsApp are users criticising the new privacy policy

Karachi: Now that WhatsApp has made some serious adjustments and introduced new privacy policies. It has sparked the concerns of its users.

Eyebrows were raised when the users received a notice that read “the service will now be sharing user data with other companies”

High profile personalities like Elon Musk and Edward Snowden have recommended users to move to apps that are more privacy-focussed.

But what is weird to the people is accepting this Terms of Services and Privacy Policy was a prerequisite.

Even those who had been using the application for years had to agree to this new policy which will be imposed by February 8, 2021. 

However, users located in 27 European countries will not have their data shared with other Facebook parties.

Data that WhatsApp will collect

WhatsApp will also collect and share location data, IP addresses, time zone, language, phone model, OS, signal strength, battery level, mobile network, browser, ISP, and even IMEI.

It will also know what groups you are attending, the Status, calling, the Display picture, and the last time you were online.

In fact, there is another section called “Transactions and Payments data” which means your record for payments and transactions will also be shared that are made through Whatsapp.

Ever since the new privacy policy has been introduced people are concerned with their data and personal information that is at stake if you agree to the new Whatsapp policies and are looking for alternatives.

Of them, there are a few substitutes that famous people have suggested such as Signal, Telegram, Viber, and Threema.

Telegram is a popular messaging app that allows you to access the chats from more than one device. The application claims to be “heavily encrypted and can self-destruct”.

Signal uses open-source encryption that lets security developers test it for any bugs and flaws.

This application is the most secure tool to remain connected to any mainstream app.

Viber has 260 million users and allows you to send instant voice messages, video messaging. group chats, and audio and video call too.

Threema is an app that allows its user to use 8-digit ID instead of using their own numbers to connect and is a Switzerland-based instant messaging app.

Cold winds reign in Karachi, temperature drops to 6 degrees Celsius

Karachi: Cold winds prevail in Karachi, the minimum temperature recorded at 6 degrees Celsius.

The citizens of Karachi left their homes early in the morning to enjoy the weather and reached the parks.

On Sunday the temperature decreased to six to eight Degree Celsius. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) informed that cold and dry weather will grip the city in more coming days as northeasterly winds are blowing in the metropolis.

According to the PDM, the temperature in the city is likely to remain 27 degrees today while the air humidity is recorded at 48 percent.

The citizens of Karachi arrived at Frere Hall early in the morning to enjoy the freezing weather, men and women were seen jogging and exercising.

 

A well-known Quizzer Pervez Sadiq passes away

Karachi: Pakistan Quiz Society International has expressed deep desperation and grief over the demise of its Vice President and well-known Quizzer Pervez Sadiq.

In a statement, the Society’s Founder chairman Syed Asim Ali Qadri and Vice-Chairman Syed Wajid Raza were also saddened by the untimely death of Pervez Sadiq and said that the legend was an asset that Pakistan has lost and the people from the world of the quiz are shocked by his sudden departure.

Wajid Raza Isfahani, President of the Society and Bakar Mujeeb Al-Hashimi, General Secretary of the Society, while paying tribute to the services of Pervez Sadiq, said that he was a dynamic partner and his services to the Pakistan Quiz Society will always be remembered.

 

An Indonesian plane carrying 62 people might have crashed after takeoff, officials

A passenger plane with 62 people in had lost contact, on Saturday, with air traffic controllers after taking off in Jakarta. The officials suspect that the passenger jet must have crashed.

On Saturday, the Indonesian Navy deployed 5 warships where the aircraft was feared to go missing. Driving troops are also sent by the Navy.

Flight SJ182 went missing from radars in less than a minute.

Imran Khan arrives in Quetta to meet the Hazara community victims’ families

Karachi: Prime Minister, after a six-day long sit-in by the Hazara Community, finally arrived in Quetta on Saturday to condole with the families of those who were mercilessly killed in Mach tragedy. 

The Prime Minister chaired a meeting on the Mach tragedy and law and order in the province. Federal Ministers Sheikh Rashid, Ali Zaidi, Ali Amin Gandapur also attended the meeting

The meeting was attended by Governor Balochistan Amanullah Yasinzai and Chief Minister Balochistan Jam Kamal.

On the occasion. special Assistant Zulfi Bukhari, Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri, Balochistan Home Minister Zia Langu attended the meeting.

Hazara community have agreed upon burial, PM Khan to visit Quetta

Karachi: The negotiation between Imran khan’s government and the Hazara community as the protesters agree to bury their loved ones tonight.

Prime Minister Imran Khan is expected to arrive in Quetta shortly after the burial of the ones who were brutally killed by the attackers in Mach.

Minister Ali Zaidi addressed the Hazara community in Quetta after the grievers agreed upon ending the protest.

The government has decided to provide scholarships to any student among the families of Mach-victims.

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs exclaimed that the external forces want to cause sectarian riots in Pakistan.

Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid will also accompany the Prime Minister to Quetta, sources said.

On the occasion, Chief Minister Balochistan Jam Kamal was also present and said “In a system where there is no justice, there are no blessings”.

Chief Minister Balochistan also said that “We will try to make things better. “I am grateful to the family for their willingness to bury the dead,” said Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal.

Families of the Hazara coal miners who were brutally killed in Balochistan’s Machh have decided to bury their loved ones. A member of the Hazara Shuhada Committee informed that all of their demands have been accepted by the Government.
