Usama Nadeem Satti shot down by Police

Karachi: A 21-year-old student was gunned down by Islamabad Police on Friday. Usama Nadeem Satti was shot 22 times by the official.

According to the reports, Satti was returning to his home after dropping off one of his friends when the anti-terror squad targetted him and opened fire on his vehicle.

according to the details, the police officer opened fire in an attempt to stop the car, however, the slain student did not comply and was hit by the bullets and died on the spot.

An FIR has been lodged against five policemen, the Inspector-General (IG) of Islamabad Police also took notice of the news and under the supervision of DIG Operations, SP Saddar and SP Investigation have been asked to probe into the matter and take appropriate actions.

Shortly after the news started to make rounds on social media, the hashtag #JusticeForUsamaNadeemSatti began trending on Twitter. People started to demand justice for Usama Nadeem Satti who was identified as a resident of Islamabad.

 

According to an autopsy report, the boy was shot 22 times in the head, chest, and back.

Nonetheless, Khalid Awan, DSP, revealed that the slain boy was innocent.

Rupee surges against the dollar over the past week

Karachi: In the open market, the dollar has depreciated by 20 paise in a week.

In the open market, the dollar has fallen from 160.50 to 160.30 during the week.

According to the weekly report of the dollar, it has been decreased by 49 paise in the interbank market.

The dollar fell from Rs 160.32 to close at Rs 159.83

 

Babar Azam to miss second Test against New Zealand as well

Karachi: National cricket team captain Babar Azam has been ruled out of the second Test against New Zealand due to a slight pain in his thumb.

According to details, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed that Pakistan cricket team captain Babar Azam will not play the second Test match against New Zealand.

He will be replaced by wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan, who will lead Pakistan in a match at Hegley Oval from January 3.

Arriving in Christchurch, Babar Azam did a full-fledged net session yesterday but during the net, he felt a slight pain in his thumb.

It should be noted that Babar Azam could not play in the T20 series and the first Test match against New Zealand due to a fractured thumb of his right hand.

A further 1842 people in Pakistan were diagnosed with corona

Karachi: New cases of corona-affected patients continue to emerge. On Saturday, 1842 patients have been diagnosed with the virus in Pakistan, making the total number of infected people in the country 483,175.

According to details, 1842 more people were diagnosed with the deadly coronavirus in the country today, including 953 from Sindh, 186 from Islamabad, 13 from Balochistan, 659 from Punjab, 5 from Gilgit-Baltistan, and 26 from Azad Kashmir.

There are currently 216632 patients in Sindh, 18181 in Balochistan, 58701 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 37888 in Islamabad, 4862 in Gilgit-Baltistan, 138608 in Punjab, and 8303 in Azad Kashmir.

Earlier, according to the data released by the spokesperson of the Sindh Health Department, the virus was confirmed in 953 people across Sindh, after which the number of corona victims in Sindh has risen to 216632.

On the other hand, 13 cases of coronavirus were confirmed in Balochistan, bringing the total number of cases of coronavirus in the province to 18,181.

Nonetheless, Gilgit-Baltistan Information Department said in a statement that 5 people in Gilgit-Baltistan have been confirmed to have coronavirus, bringing the total number of coronavirus cases in the province to 4862.

Coronavirus Update: 71 New cases were reported on New year’s Day in Pakistan

KARACHI: New cases eclipse 71 mark on New year’s day in Pakistan, while the death toll to 10,176 and the number of covid patients to 482,178 after 2,463 new cases were reported.

The National Command and Operations Center released the latest statistics on people infected with the coronavirus.

In the last 24 hours, 2,463 new cases were reported across Pakistan. The number of infected patients in Pakistan reached 482,178.

According to the National Command and Operations Center (NCOC), Sindh was the worst affected by the coronavirus, with the number of affected patients reaching 215,679, while 1,38,608 people fell victim to the deadly virus in Punjab.

Besides, 58,701 cases of Covid-19 have been reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 37,888 in Islamabad, 18,168 in Balochistan, 4,857 in Gilgit-Baltistan, and 8,277 in Azad Kashmir.

Corona has once again put many people to death across the country, with 71 more patients dying from the coronavirus in one day, bringing the death toll to 10,176.

Severe measures to be taken against the elements involved in oil smuggling

Karachi: Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that strict measures should be taken against the elements involved in oil smuggling.

According to details, a high-level meeting on anti-trafficking measures was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Imran Khan.

During the briefing, it was said that the sale of smuggled oil is causing an annual loss of Rs 100-150 billion to the economy while at present 2094 petrol pumps in the country are involved in the sale of smuggled oil.

Presiding over the meeting, Premier, Imran Khan said that irreparable damage is being done to the national economy owing to smuggling which is why severe measures need to be taken against the elements involved in smuggling.

Imran Khan further mentioned that anti-trafficking measures would generate revenue that can be spent on the welfare of poor people.

The meeting was attended via video link by Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, Information Minister Shibli Faraz, Trade Adviser Abdul Razzaq Dawood, Shehzad Akbar, Special Assistant for Revenue Dr Waqar Masood Khan, Secretaries of Commerce, Petroleum, Maritime Affairs, and Home Affairs Division, Chairman FBR and senior civil and military officials.

Pakistan Quiz Society International (Registered) organizes online competition

Karachi: The All Pakistan Online Quiz Competition was organized by Pakistan Quiz Society International (Registered) on the occasion birth anniversary of the Founder of Pakistan Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

Islamabad’s Zirak Bilal won the competition.

Hundreds of students, from all around the country, participated in Pakistan Quiz Society International (Registered) online competition.

The semi-finals and finals were also watched online by the Chairman Syed Asim Ali Qadri and Vice-Chairman Syed Javed Raza Naqvi.

Wajid Raza Isfahani, President of the Society, and Tehseen Fatima, Vice President of the Society were the judges while Baker Mujeeb Al-Hashimi, general secretary, was the quiz master.

After winning the first two rounds, 18 students from all the four provinces of Pakistan, who belonged to Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, qualified for the semi-finals.

The semi-final and final of Quaid-e-Azam Quiz was held on December 29, 2020, at Sir Adam G Institute (Hussainabad) Karachi.

After an interesting contest, Islamabad’s astute Bilal Quaid-e-Azam won the quiz final.

Ali Sher Bajwa of Nankana Sahib district of Punjab secured the second position and Amir Rahim of Skardu (Gilgit-Baltistan) secured the third position.

The special guest of the program was Professor Khawar Majeed, Principal, Sir Adam G Institute.

The Sindh education boards increase the total marks of 9th and 10th grade

Karachi: The total marks of 9th and 10th class in all education boards of Sindh have been increased from 850 to 1100.

Earlier, the total marks for the 9th and 10th grades were 850 which were divided into 425 and 425 marks in both the classes.

According to the Research Section Scheme of Studies of the Matriculation Board, Model Papers 9th, and 10th class (Science Group) have been executed.

Chairman Matriculation Board Prof. Syed Sharaf Ali Shah informed that the research section of the board has established model papers in accordance with the National Scheme of Studies.

He added that these model papers are beneficial for exam preparation and are prepared for the guidance of teachers and students.

The research section of the board has prepared model papers under the supervision of senior teachers of government and private schools.

These model papers will be applicable for class IX 2021 and class X for 2022.

Details of prisoners exchanged between Pakistan and India

The Foreign Office spokesman has said that the details of inmates in Pakistani and Indian prisons have been exchanged.

The government has provided a list of 319 Indian prisoners to the Indian High Commission. He added that the Indian government had provided a list of 340 Pakistani prisoners.

In Germany, there is a lockdown till 10 January 2021 while the “sale of fireworks”, according to news reports published on BBC, and public gatherings are strictly not allowed.

The Netherlands, according to the news, is in lockdown till 19 January.

Turkey will impose a lockdown for four days.

The US has also placed tight restrictions on New Year’s celebrations.

Nonetheless, Pakistan is ready to ring in 2021 in a matter of hours. In major cities of the country, public gatherings are prohibited.

People are, however, hopeful about the coming year as they are excited to bid farewell to the covid year.

Imran Khan approves an online agri-dashboard to monitor the prices and availability of food items

Karachi: Prime Minister Imran Khan has approved the online agri-dashboard prepared by the National Security Division, saying that every step should be taken to curb the rise in prices of flour, sugar, and pulses.

A series of weekly review meetings of priority sectors will begin under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Imran Khan.

The Prime Minister approved an online agri-dashboard made by the National Security Division which will monitor the prices and availability of food items.

The meeting, chaired by the Prime Minister, was attended by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Moeed Yousuf, secretaries of relevant ministries and senior officials, as well as the chief secretaries of the four provinces via video link.

Not only will the dashboard play a significant role in avoiding any crisis, but will also be extremely effective in preventing the profiteers from hoarding.

On the occasion, the Prime Minister directed that items like flour, sugar, and pulses are very important for the poor families and steps should be taken to keep their prices under control.

Imran Khan further said that steps should be taken to increase exports and find local alternatives for imports so as to increase the current account surplus and not put pressure on foreign exchange reserves.

Karachi: IKEA, a famous furniture retail company, is all set to come to Pakistan in the coming months.

Dr Faisal informed about having to recently meet with an IKEA official, Dieter Mettke, who wanted to lead the multinational conglomerate’s operations.

PTI removes Mufti Muneeb from Ruet-e-Hilal Committee

Karachi: The Federal Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will consist of 19 members including the Chairman while Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad has been appointed as the Chairman Route Hilal Committee.

According to the report, the committee includes Dr. Ragheb Hussain Naeemi, Allama Muhammad Hussain Akbar, Maulana Fazlur Rahim, Dr. Yaseen Zafar, Mufti Muhammad Iqbal Chishti, and Dr. Mufti Ali Asghar.

Mufti Faisal Ahmed, Syed Ali Qarar Naqvi, and Mufti Yousuf Kashmiri have been appointed as members of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.

According to the notification, Hafiz Abdul Ghafoor, Mufti Fazal Jamil Rizvi, Qari Mirullah, Sahibzada Habibullah Chishti, and Mufti Zameer Sajid will also be the members of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.

The Central Route Hilal Committee will also include representatives from SPARCO, Meteorological Department, Ministry of Science and Technology, and Ministry of Religious Affairs.

It may be recalled that earlier Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman was the chairman of Ruet-e-Hilal Committee and he had been holding this position for a long time. However, several members including him have been removed in the reconstitution of the committee today.

The death toll in the country has risen to more than 10,000 after 55 more deaths from Coronavirus

Karachi: According to the corona statistics website (covid.gov.pk) in Pakistan, 36,390 Covid-19 tests were conducted across the country in the last 24 hours, of which 2,155 people were confirmed to be infected with the virus, while 55 covid-patients have died.

According to the official portal, the corona positive rate in the last 24 hours was 5.8%.

The death toll from Corona has risen from 10,000 to 10047 and the total number of cases has reached 477,240 while the number of active cases is 37,080.

In addition, 4619 patients have recovered from the disease in 24 hours across the country, bringing the total number of recoveries to 430113.

The total number of corona-infected patients in Sindh has reached 213193 while 3520 people have died up till now.

The total number of patients infected with the virus in Punjab is 137295 and 3982 people have died due to the coronavirus while the total number of patients in Balochistan is 18118 and the death toll is 182.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the number of patients has been 57982 and 1627 deaths while in Azad Kashmir, 8241 people have been infected with the virus and 220 people have died.

Moreover, 4855 covid-19 patients and 101 people have died in Gilgit-Baltistan so far.

The total number of infected patients in the federal capital Islamabad is 37556 and 415 patients have died up to this point.

EU to stabilize ties with China once again with investment

Karachi: On Wednesday, the European Union and China decided to make an investment agreement that would allow European companies greater access to China’s markets and seek to address what Europe sees as an imbalanced economic partnership.

The deal has been in effect for almost seven years and is expected to take at least another year before it enters into force.

It is part of this new alliance with China, which the EU finds to be a partner as well as a structural competitor.

EU companies will be allowed to operate in different sectors in China, such as private hospitals, airline reservation systems, ground handling, electric cars, telecom cloud services, and the maritime industry.

According to Reuters, a few requirements that firms handle will be lifted as a part of joint ventures with China.

Moreover, China will bar the “forced transfer of technology from foreign companies” while China has vowed to make subsidies more transparent and ban state-owned companies from discriminating against foreign investors.

 

Ukraine plane crash victims’ families to receive $150,000 from Iran

Karachi: Iran’s cabinet has allocated $150,000 for the families of 176 passengers who died in a Ukrainian plane crash in January this year.

according to Reuters news agency, “Iran’s cabinet allocated $150,000 for the families of each of the 176 victims of a Ukrainian plane downed in Iranian airspace in January”.

The official IRNA news agency reported, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards resented for accidentally shooting the Ukraine International Airlines plane that resulted in the crash.

The incident took place as the guards mistook the plane for a missile amid the tensions between the US.

Earlier, the US killed Qassem Soleimani in Iraq, Revolutionary Guards commander, with a drone strike. Five days later the Ukrainian plane was crashed in Iran.

According to reports, the majority of those killed in the plane crash were Canadians or permanent residents.

The Ukrainian prime minister, Denys Shmyhal, confirmed the death of 176 people who were on board, including 167 passengers and nine crew members.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani reported in a tweet on Twitter, “An internal investigation by the armed forces concluded that, unfortunately, missiles fire was a human error that caused the Ukrainian plane to crash and 176 innocent people were killed.”

On January 9, Iran said in a preliminary investigation report on the Ukrainian passenger plane that crashed, not a single radio call was made for help after a fire broke out in the passenger plane during the journey, while the plane tried to return to the airport.

Nawaz Sharif’s passport will be revoked on 16 Feb, says Sheikh Rashid Ahmed

Karachi: The Interior Minister, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, on Wednesday, said that PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif’s passport will be revoked on 16 Feb.

While speaking to reporters in Islamabad, Sheik Rashid informed that the opposition had been “exposed” as money launderers and people who had gained iqamas because they were not sincere with Pakistan.

The Interior Minister mentioned that the manual visa scheme had been obliterated. There have been questions about permits, but they’re being closed.

The former Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif has been living in London as he was permitted to leave the country owing to medical reasons last year.
