Pakistan faced a humiliating defeat in the first T20I against New Zealand as the hosts effortlessly chased down the 92-run target in just 10.1 overs. The Green Shirts struggled with the bat, registering their lowest T20I total on New Zealand soil, while the Black Caps dominated both with the ball and in their chase.
Pakistan’s Batting Collapse
Sent in to bat on a lively Hagley Oval pitch, Pakistan had a disastrous start. Kyle Jamieson wreaked havoc with the new ball, reducing the visitors to 11-4 by the fifth over. The towering pacer dismissed three of the top four batters, finishing with 3-8 in four overs.
Pakistan’s middle order failed to recover from the early setback. Captain Salman Ali Agha scored 18 runs, forming a 46-run partnership with Khushdil Shah, who top-scored with 32 off 30 balls, including three sixes. Jahandad Khan added 17 runs before the innings ended with eight balls remaining.
The visitors were bowled out for 91, their lowest T20I score in New Zealand, breaking their previous record of 101 all out in Wellington (2016). Jacob Duffy cleaned up the tail, registering career-best figures of 4-14 in 3.4 overs.
New Zealand openers wasted no time in sealing an easy victory. Tim Seifert gave his team a strong start, smashing 44 off 29 balls, hitting seven fours and a six. Finn Allen (29)* and Tim Robinson (18)* guided the team home, completing the chase in the first ball of the 11th over.
The dominant nine-wicket win gives New Zealand a 1-0 lead in the five-match series, setting the tone for the upcoming games.
What’s Next?
Pakistan will look to bounce back in the second T20I in Dunedin on March 18. With four more matches left in the series, they have a chance to recover, but improvements are needed in their batting approach and strategy.
Upcoming Matches in the Tour
March 18 – Second T20I, Dunedin
March 21 – Third T20I, Auckland
March 23 – Fourth T20I, Mount Maunganui
March 26 – Fifth T20I, Wellington
March 29 – First ODI, Napier
April 2 – Second ODI, Hamilton
April 5 – Third ODI, Mount Maunganui
Pakistan must regroup quickly if they hope to turn things around in the series.
A devastating nightclub fire in Kocani, North Macedonia, has left at least 59 people dead and more than 150 injured. Authorities have issued arrest warrants for four individuals as investigations into the tragedy continue.
Fire Breaks Out During Concert
The fire erupted around 3 a.m. on Sunday at the Pulse club, a popular nightclub located about 100 km east of Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia. The venue was packed with people attending a concert by the band DNK when pyrotechnics were set off inside the club.
Videos posted online show “stage fountains”—a type of indoor fireworks—being used during the performance. Sparks from the fireworks ignited the highly flammable ceiling material, causing the fire to spread rapidly throughout the building. Thick smoke filled the club within minutes, making it difficult for people to escape.
Eyewitnesses recalled scenes of chaos and panic as clubgoers tried to flee. Some managed to break windows to get out, while others were trapped inside. Videos from the scene show the nightclub engulfed in flames, with thick plumes of smoke rising into the night sky.
Interior Minister Panche Toshkovski confirmed the death toll and stated that emergency teams worked through the night to control the situation. The Ministry of Internal Affairs later announced that four individuals had been identified and arrest warrants were issued in connection with the fire.
The government is expected to declare a seven-day mourning period, according to local reports. Additionally, authorities are ordering emergency inspections of all nightclubs and restaurants that host public gatherings to prevent similar incidents in the future.
A Town in Mourning
Residents of Kocani are in shock and grief following the tragedy. The town, known for its close-knit community, has been deeply affected.
Al Jazeera’s Maja Blajevska, reporting from the scene, described the devastating impact on the town. “This is a huge tragedy for Kocani, but also for the entire country,” she said. Many parents are still searching for their children, desperately hoping for news of their loved ones.
Concerns Over Safety Regulations
The incident has raised serious concerns about fire safety regulations in entertainment venues. Many are questioning whether the use of pyrotechnics indoors was properly regulated and whether the club had adequate fire safety measures in place.
Authorities are now under pressure to enforce stricter safety checks to prevent future tragedies. The nightclub industry, particularly in smaller towns, is expected to face tighter regulations and increased scrutiny in the coming weeks.
As the country mourns, the focus remains on supporting the victims’ families, ensuring proper accountability, and preventing similar disasters in the future.
NUSHKI: A powerful blast near a passenger bus on the Nushki-Dalbandin highway killed at least seven people and injured 35 others on Sunday. The incident adds to the wave of violence gripping Balochistan.
Authorities have not confirmed the nature or cause of the explosion. Police said the injured were rushed to Nushki Hospital, where several remain in critical condition.
Emergency Declared
The hospital administration declared an emergency at Mir Gul Khan Naseer Teaching Hospital. Security forces sealed the area and launched an investigation.
Police stated that helicopters were transferring the severely injured to Quetta for advanced medical care.
Government’s Response
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi condemned the attack and called it an act of extreme brutality. He extended condolences to the victims’ families and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to establishing peace in the province. Bugti vowed to take strict action against those responsible.
Terrorist Attacks Surge
This incident follows a major terrorist attack in the Mushqaf area of Bolan district. Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been the hardest hit by terrorism, accounting for 96% of such incidents in Pakistan this year, according to the Global Terrorism Index 2025.
On Tuesday, militants from the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) blew up a railway track and attacked the Jaffar Express, which was carrying over 440 passengers. The terrorists took passengers hostage, triggering a military operation.
Security forces launched a clearance operation, eliminating 33 attackers and rescuing the hostages. However, 26 passengers, including 18 security personnel, three railway officials, and five civilians, were killed. Three FC personnel were also martyred in a prior attack on a security picket.
Social Media Propaganda
Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry highlighted the spread of misinformation. He accused Indian media of using fake videos to exaggerate the situation. He also identified New Delhi as the primary sponsor of the attack.
Government’s Support for Victims
In response to the tragedy, the government announced a compensation package for the victims’ families. Each family will receive Rs5.2 million and jobs in the Ministry of Railways.
The surge in terrorist attacks continues to pose a serious challenge to security forces and the government. Authorities have vowed to intensify counterterrorism operations and ensure peace in the troubled province.
The 15th of Ramadan holds immense significance in Islamic history as it marks the birth of Hazrat Imam Hasan (رضی الله عنه), the beloved grandson of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, the son of Hazrat Ali (علیہ السلام) and Hazrat Fatima (رضی الله عنها). His life was a beacon of patience, wisdom, and sacrifice. Imam Hasan (رضی الله عنه) played a crucial role in preserving peace among Muslims and left behind an everlasting legacy of generosity and piety.
Birth and Early Life
Hazrat Imam Hasan (رضی الله عنه) was born on the 15th of Ramadan, 3 AH (625 CE) in Madinah. When the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ received the news of his birth, he rejoiced and named him Hasan, meaning “good” or “handsome.” The Aqeeqah (sacrificial offering) was performed on the seventh day, and the Prophet ﷺ shaved his head and donated silver equal to the weight of his hair in charity.
From an early age, Imam Hasan (رضی الله عنه) exhibited remarkable intelligence, humility, and kindness. He was raised in the household of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, learning the values of truth, patience, and justice. He was among the closest people to the Prophet ﷺ, who often expressed his deep love for Hasan (رضی الله عنه) and his younger brother, Hazrat Imam Hussain (رضی الله عنه).
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ’s Love for Imam Hasan (رضی الله عنه)
The Prophet ﷺ held Imam Hasan (رضی الله عنه) in great esteem and frequently expressed his affection for him. One of the most famous sayings of the Prophet ﷺ about him is:
“Hasan and Hussain are the leaders of the youth in Paradise.” (Tirmidhi)
Another narration states that the Prophet ﷺ used to carry both grandsons on his shoulders and say:
“O Allah, I love them, so love them too.” (Bukhari)
This demonstrates the esteemed status of Imam Hasan (رضی الله عنه) in Islam. His character was molded under the guidance of the Prophet ﷺ, making him an embodiment of righteousness and leadership.
After the passing of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in 11 AH, the responsibility of upholding Islam fell upon his family. Imam Hasan (رضی الله عنه) continued to spread the teachings of Islam, following the footsteps of his father, Hazrat Ali (علیہ السلام). His life became a testimony to patience, as he witnessed the political struggles that followed.
His Leadership and the Peace Treaty with Hazrat Muawiya (رضی الله عنه)
After the martyrdom of Hazrat Ali (علیہ السلام) in 40 AH, Imam Hasan (رضی الله عنه) was declared the Caliph of the Muslim Ummah.
Imam Hasan (رضی الله عنه) was known for his unmatched generosity, humility, and devotion to Allah. He would often fast, pray, and distribute wealth among the destitute.
A well-known incident highlights his generosity:
Imam Hasan (رضی الله عنه) gave away half of his wealth twice in his lifetime.
He would welcome guests and treat them with respect, regardless of their background.
His piety was also remarkable. It is said that he performed Hajj on foot 25 times, despite having the means to travel comfortably. His life reflected the true essence of humility and compassion.
Martyrdom of Imam Hasan (رضی الله عنه)
Despite signing the peace treaty, Imam Hasan (رضی الله عنه) continued to face opposition. After Hazrat Muawiya (رضی الله عنه) broke the treaty by appointing his son Yazid as his successor, Hazrat Hasan (رضی الله عنه) resisted this move but chose not to engage in battle.
In 50 AH (670 CE), Imam Hasan (رضی الله عنه) was poisoned by his own wife Ja’da bint al-Ash’ath, who was reportedly influenced by Yazid’s court. After enduring severe pain, he passed away as a martyr in Madinah. His final wish was to be buried near his grandfather, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, but due to political resistance, he was laid to rest in Jannat-ul-Baqi, the sacred cemetery of Madinah.
Lessons We Learn
The life of Imam Hasan (رضی الله عنه) teaches us numerous lessons:
Patience in adversity – Despite immense hardships, he remained steadfast.
Promoting peace over conflict – His treaty prevented unnecessary bloodshed.
Generosity and kindness – He never hesitated to help the needy.
Commitment to faith – His devotion to Islam was unwavering.
Upholding justice – He never compromised on truth and fairness.
Conclusion
The 15th of Ramadan is a day of reflection and celebration, as we remember Hazrat Imam Hasan (رضی الله عنه), one of the greatest figures in Islamic history. His life was filled with wisdom, sacrifice, and love for the Ummah. As we honor his Wiladat (birthday), let us strive to embody his values of patience, generosity, and faith.
May Allah grant us the ability to follow his path and uphold justice in our lives. Ameen.

Iran Rejects U.S. Pressure
Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, dismissed Washington’s calls to halt support for Yemen’s Houthi forces. U.S. President Donald Trump had urged Tehran to withdraw its backing.
“The United States government has no authority or business dictating Iranian foreign policy,” Araghchi stated on X. He urged the U.S. to stop what he called the “killing of Yemeni people.”
U.S. Launches Strikes on Houthis

President Trump ordered large-scale military strikes against Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi forces. The attacks came in response to Houthi assaults on Red Sea shipping. At least 24 people were killed in the initial strikes.
Trump also issued a stern warning to Iran. He said that if Tehran threatened the U.S., America would hold it “fully accountable.”
“These strikes mark the biggest U.S. military operation in the Middle East since Trump took office in January,” an official stated. The U.S. has also increased sanctions on Iran, aiming to pressure Tehran into nuclear negotiations.
Trump took to his Truth Social platform to warn the Houthis. “To all Houthi terrorists, YOUR TIME IS UP, AND YOUR ATTACKS MUST STOP, STARTING TODAY. IF THEY DON’T, HELL WILL RAIN DOWN UPON YOU LIKE NOTHING YOU HAVE EVER SEEN BEFORE!” he posted.
The situation in the region remains tense as diplomatic and military actions unfold.
Renowned Punjabi singer Naseebo Lal has dropped legal action against her husband, Naveed Hussain, after initially filing a police complaint accusing him of domestic abuse. She later informed authorities that they had resolved the issue privately and no longer wished to pursue the matter.
Allegations of Assault
Lal filed a First Information Report (FIR) at Shahdara Town Police Station on Saturday, alleging that her husband assaulted her the previous evening. According to the complaint, she was sitting in her garden around 5 p.m. on Friday when Hussain returned home and began verbally abusing her. She claimed that he then struck her in the face with a brick, causing injuries to her left side and nose.
The singer stated that Hussain frequently argued with her, and she sought legal action against him. The police registered the case under Section 354 of the Pakistan Penal Code, which pertains to assault or the use of criminal force with intent to outrage a woman’s modesty.
Shortly after filing the complaint, Lal submitted a new statement to the police. She informed them that she and her husband had resolved the issue privately and that she no longer wished to proceed with legal action.
Her decision to withdraw the case has sparked discussions on domestic violence, victims’ rights, and societal pressures in such situations. Many have pointed out the challenges victims face when reporting abuse and the difficulties they encounter when seeking justice.
Domestic Violence and Social Stigma
The incident has highlighted the prevalence of domestic violence and the reasons many victims choose not to pursue legal action. Fear of social backlash, emotional ties, financial dependency, and pressure from family or community often play a significant role in such decisions.
Rights activists stress the need for stronger legal protections and support systems for victims of domestic abuse. They urge authorities to ensure that victims are not pressured into silence and receive the help they need to break the cycle of abuse.
A Wider Conversation
While Lal’s case has been resolved privately, it has raised broader questions about domestic abuse awareness and victim protection. Experts emphasize the importance of creating safe spaces for survivors, ensuring access to legal resources, and educating communities about recognizing and addressing domestic violence.
The focus now shifts to whether authorities will take steps to strengthen protections for domestic abuse victims and how society can better support those facing similar situations.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has raised alarm over the growing wave of anti-Muslim bigotry, urging governments to uphold religious freedom and calling on online platforms to curb hate speech. He made these remarks on March 15, the International Day to Combat Islamophobia, highlighting increasing discrimination against Muslim communities worldwide.
Growing Discrimination and Intolerance
Guterres warned of racial profiling, discriminatory policies, and outright violence targeting Muslim individuals and places of worship. He described this as part of a broader trend of intolerance, extremism, and attacks on religious groups.
“We are witnessing a disturbing rise in anti-Muslim bigotry,” Guterres said in a video message on X. He urged world leaders to promote social harmony and safeguard religious freedoms.
Online Platforms and Hate Speech
The UN chief called on social media platforms to take stronger action against hate speech and harassment. He emphasized that digital spaces should not fuel discrimination or spread extremist ideologies.
UN Under-Secretary-General Miguel Angel Moratinos echoed these concerns. He pointed out that institutional discrimination and socioeconomic restrictions were becoming more prevalent against Muslim communities.
Reports indicate a sharp rise in Islamophobia, particularly since Israel’s war on Gaza began 17 months ago. Pro-Palestinian activists in Western nations, including the United States, have faced accusations of supporting Hamas simply for advocating Palestinian rights.
Rights groups have also noted an increase in anti-Muslim, anti-Arab, and anti-Semitic incidents worldwide. A study by the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) found that cases of anti-Muslim and anti-Arab discrimination in the U.S. reached an all-time high in 2023. CAIR recorded 8,658 complaints, marking a 7.4% increase from the previous year.
Similar trends have been observed in the UK, India, and other nations, raising global concerns over rising intolerance and bias against Muslim communities.
The Path Forward
The UN continues to urge governments to take concrete steps against religious discrimination. As anti-Muslim sentiment grows, pressure is mounting on world leaders and tech companies to tackle hate speech, promote inclusivity, and ensure religious freedoms for all.
The federal government has decided to keep petroleum prices unchanged for the next fortnight, despite expectations of a price drop. A notification from the Finance Division confirmed that all fuel prices would remain at current levels.
Current Fuel Prices
The unchanged fuel rates are as follows:
High-Speed Diesel (HSD): Rs258.64 per litre
Petrol: Rs255.63 per litre
Kerosene Oil: Rs168.12 per litre
Light Diesel Oil (LDO): Rs153.34 per litre
Prime Minister’s Announcement
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that fuel prices would remain the same while the government works on a relief package to reduce electricity prices. The Prime Minister’s Office stated that financial savings from international oil price fluctuations would be redirected toward lowering electricity costs. The relief package, expected in the coming weeks, aims to ease inflation and provide economic relief.
The government’s decision comes after reports suggested that petroleum prices could have fallen by up to Rs14 per litre due to declining global oil prices and import premiums. Estimates indicated:
Petrol could have dropped by Rs14 per litre
HSD by Rs8 per litre
Kerosene oil by Rs10 per litre
LDO by Rs7 per litre
These reductions were anticipated due to a $3 per barrel decrease in Brent crude oil prices over the last ten days.
Government’s Financial Strategy
An official source revealed that authorities considered absorbing part of the price cushion to increase the petroleum levy or impose a carbon tax. This move aimed to secure an additional $1 billion from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for climate adaptation and mitigation.
Currently, the government collects about Rs76 per litre in taxes on petrol and HSD. While the General Sales Tax (GST) remains at zero, a petroleum development levy (PDL) of Rs60 per litre is applied to both fuels. Under existing laws, this levy can be increased to Rs70 per litre.
In addition, the government imposes a Rs16 per litre customs duty on petrol and HSD, regardless of local production or imports. Oil companies and dealers also charge around Rs17 per litre in distribution and sales margins.
Impact on Consumers and Economy
Petrol prices directly impact motorists, rickshaw drivers, and two-wheeler owners, affecting the middle and lower-income groups. HSD, widely used in heavy transport vehicles, trains, and agricultural machinery, plays a key role in inflation by influencing the cost of food and essential goods.
By maintaining fuel prices, the government aims to provide economic stability. However, the upcoming electricity relief package will determine whether the public truly benefits from the decision.
Pakistan faces a critical water shortage as Mangla Dam has reached its dead level, forcing the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) to halt water discharge. The situation is expected to worsen, with Tarbela Dam just three feet above its dead level and likely to reach it within the next 36 hours.
Alarming Water Levels at Major Dams
WAPDA reported that Mangla Dam’s water level has dropped to 1,050 feet, leaving only 72,000 acre-feet of water in storage. Meanwhile, Tarbela Dam stands at 1,402 feet, with only 15,000 acre-feet of water left. Chashma Dam has an equally low reserve of 15,000 acre-feet.
The combined water storage across Mangla, Tarbela, and Chashma dams is now 102,000 acre-feet, raising concerns about the availability of water for irrigation, drinking, and power generation.
The latest data from WAPDA highlights a troubling decline in water inflows and outflows:
Tarbela Dam (Indus River): Inflow at 22,200 cusecs, outflow at 20,000 cusecs.
Mangla Dam (Jhelum River): Inflow at 19,900 cusecs, but a high outflow of 28,000 cusecs.
Chashma Barrage: Inflow at 38,400 cusecs, outflow at 27,000 cusecs.
Chenab River (Headworks): Inflow at 10,800 cusecs, outflow at 6,100 cusecs.
Kabul River (Nowshera): Both inflow and outflow recorded at 14,300 cusecs.
Impact on Agriculture and Power Generation
The depletion of water levels in major reservoirs poses a serious threat to agriculture, hydropower generation, and drinking water supply. Farmers rely heavily on these water reserves for irrigation, and any further decline could lead to severe crop failures. Additionally, hydroelectric power production may suffer, leading to extended electricity shortages.
Urgent Need for Water Conservation
With water levels dropping at an alarming rate, experts emphasize the urgent need for conservation measures. Authorities are being urged to implement efficient water management strategies to prevent a full-blown crisis.
As climate change and mismanagement continue to strain Pakistan’s water resources, the country must take immediate steps to protect its reservoirs and ensure sustainable water use for the future.
SpaceX is gearing up for its most ambitious goal yet—sending a rocket to Mars by late next year. CEO Elon Musk announced that if the initial missions succeed, human landings could begin as early as 2029, though he believes 2031 is a more realistic target. The Mars mission is a crucial step in Musk’s vision to make humans a multi-planetary species.
Starship’s Role in the Mars Mission
Standing at 123 meters, Starship is the largest rocket ever built. It is designed to carry heavy payloads and eventually transport humans to the Moon and Mars. However, recent test flights have encountered significant challenges.
Last week, a Starship rocket exploded minutes after launch from Texas, marking the second failure this year. A similar incident occurred in January when a test flight ended in what SpaceX referred to as a “rapid unscheduled disassembly.”
Following the latest explosion, SpaceX stated it would analyze flight data to identify the root cause of the failure. The company confirmed that the loss of several engines contributed to the incident.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has mandated an investigation before granting approval for the next test flight. SpaceX will need to address safety concerns before resuming Starship launches.
NASA’s Interest in Starship
Despite these challenges, NASA remains optimistic about Starship’s potential. The space agency plans to use a modified version of the spacecraft for its Artemis missions, which aim to return humans to the Moon.
The latest explosion sent debris over the Bahamas, raising additional concerns about safety and reliability. However, Musk remains determined to move forward with his Mars timeline.
A History of Changing Deadlines
Musk has repeatedly adjusted his Mars timeline over the years. In 2016, he planned to send a Dragon spacecraft to the Red Planet by 2018. In 2020, he predicted a human landing within six years. By 2024, his target shifted to launching the first uncrewed Starships in 2026, with crewed flights following in 2030.
Now, Musk is confident that a Mars-bound Starship will launch by late 2026, carrying a Tesla humanoid robot named Optimus. Introduced last year, Optimus is designed to perform everyday tasks and is expected to cost between $20,000 and $30,000.
Other SpaceX Missions
While Starship’s progress has faced setbacks, SpaceX continues to launch other successful missions. On Friday, the company’s Falcon 9 rocket carried a crew to the International Space Station (ISS).
Meanwhile, astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams remain stranded on the ISS due to technical issues with Boeing’s spacecraft. Initially planned as an eight-day stay, their mission has now stretched beyond nine months, awaiting a safe return.
Looking Ahead
Despite Starship’s recent setbacks, Musk’s vision for Mars remains unchanged. SpaceX is pushing forward with new tests, determined to make interplanetary travel a reality. If Musk’s latest predictions hold, the world could witness the first steps toward a human colony on Mars within the next decade.
The Farshi Shalwar trend has taken social media by storm, with fashion enthusiasts debating its suitability for different body types. As Eid al-Fitr approaches, many are eager to embrace this floor-length shalwar. However, renowned designer Maria B. recently shared her insights on who can pull off this traditional style and who might want to reconsider.
Not for Everyone
In a recent video, Maria B. addressed the rising popularity of the Farshi Shalwar, emphasizing that it may not complement all body types. She explained that while the trend is gaining traction, it is better suited for tall, slim, and younger women. According to her, this flowing style enhances their overall look and adds elegance.
A Matter of Age and Proportion
Maria B., who is 43, admitted that she would not personally adopt this trend. She mentioned that while she could imagine her daughter confidently wearing the Farshi Shalwar, it would not be the right choice for her. She further pointed out that women with a shorter height or fuller figures might not find this style as flattering.
Instead, she suggested that structured silhouettes, such as cigarette pants, might be a better alternative for those looking for a sleek and elegant appearance. To illustrate her point, Maria showcased four different outfits in her video—two featuring Farshi Shalwars and two with cigarette pants. The comparison made it evident that cigarette pants provided a more refined and balanced look for her body type.
While trends come and go, Maria B. emphasized the importance of dressing according to one’s body type rather than blindly following fashion. She encouraged women to explore styles that enhance their figures and boost confidence. According to her, the key to looking stylish is understanding what works best for one’s shape and age.
A Timeless Trend for Some
Despite her reservations, Maria acknowledged that the Farshi Shalwar has cultural significance and can look breathtaking on the right person. She appreciated how younger, taller women could pull off the style effortlessly, adding that it creates a regal and graceful effect when worn correctly.
With Eid approaching, the debate over Farshi Shalwar will likely continue. However, Maria B.’s advice serves as a reminder that personal style should always take precedence over fleeting trends. Fashion should not be about following what’s viral—it should be about wearing what makes one feel confident and comfortable.
A joint Iraq-U.S. military operation has eliminated Abu Khadija, a top leader of the Islamic State (IS). He was responsible for IS operations, logistics, and financing, playing a major role in the group’s global network. The precision airstrike, carried out in Iraq’s Al Anbar province, also killed another IS operative, according to U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM).
A Major Blow to Islamic State
Iraq’s Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani called Khadija “one of the most dangerous terrorists in Iraq and the world.” He confirmed that the strike was a joint effort between Iraqi security forces and U.S. military forces.
CENTCOM stated that Khadija managed a significant portion of the group’s global finances, making his elimination a critical setback for IS operations. U.S. commander General Michael Erik Kurilla described him as “one of the most important ISIS members in the entire global organization.”
U.S. President Donald Trump praised the operation, stating that Khadija was “relentlessly hunted down by our intrepid warfighters.” He highlighted the collaboration between Iraqi forces, the U.S. military, and the Kurdish regional government, emphasizing the importance of continued efforts to dismantle IS.
The strike is part of ongoing counterterrorism efforts aimed at eliminating IS leadership and preventing the group from regaining strength. While Iraq declared victory over IS in 2017, the group remains active, carrying out attacks and maintaining sleeper cells across the region.
Islamic State’s Continued Threat
Despite losing its territorial stronghold, IS continues to pose a serious threat. The organization has claimed responsibility for several attacks worldwide, including a deadly assault on a Moscow concert hall last year. Security analysts warn that IS remains capable of orchestrating high-profile attacks and financing global operations.
Prime Minister Sudani reiterated Iraq’s commitment to eradicating terrorism. In a post on social media platform X, he hailed the country’s “remarkable victories against the forces of darkness and terrorism.”
Impact on Regional Security
The successful strike against Khadija marks another milestone in the fight against Islamic State remnants. However, security experts caution that IS remains a threat, particularly in Iraq and Syria, where its fighters continue to launch hit-and-run attacks and bombings.
The U.S. and Iraq have pledged to continue counterterrorism operations, ensuring that IS does not regain strength. This latest operation highlights the importance of intelligence-sharing, military coordination, and swift action in the fight against global terrorism.

Tech giants OpenAI and Google are urging the U.S. government to expand fair use protections for AI training data, arguing that access to copyrighted material is critical for maintaining America’s leadership in artificial intelligence. Both companies submitted formal proposals this week, emphasizing that restrictive copyright laws could weaken the U.S. AI industry and give China an edge.
National Security and AI Innovation
OpenAI’s proposal frames the issue as a national security concern. The company warns that limiting access to data would slow innovation, allowing China to surpass the United States in AI development. It specifically points to DeepSeek, a Chinese AI firm producing competitive models at lower costs.
In its submission, OpenAI argues that China’s AI developers have unrestricted access to vast amounts of data, including copyrighted material. If U.S. companies are denied the same advantage, OpenAI claims that America risks losing the AI race.
Google supports a similar stance, calling for relaxed copyright rules to ensure AI models can be trained on publicly available data. The company stresses that existing copyright, privacy, and patent laws could stifle innovation by restricting access to essential training material.
According to Google, these legal frameworks are vital for keeping U.S. companies competitive against international rivals.
White House AI Initiative
These proposals are part of a broader policy debate initiated by President Donald Trump’s AI Action Plan. The White House has called for input from industry leaders, government agencies, and tech experts to craft policies that strengthen America’s AI leadership while balancing intellectual property rights.
Both OpenAI and Google argue that striking the right balance between copyright protection and AI development is essential for maintaining the United States’ technological edge. The government now faces a critical decision—whether to uphold strict copyright laws or adapt them to accommodate AI’s growing influence.

With ongoing counterterrorism efforts, the military continues to disrupt militant networks and secure Pakistan’s borders.
Skywatchers around the world witnessed a stunning celestial event on the night of 14 March 2025—a “Blood Moon.” This breathtaking display turned the full moon into shades of red, orange, and yellow during a total lunar eclipse.
If you were lucky enough to see the moon’s transformation, you might be wondering: Why did it change color? What causes a “Blood Moon”? Let’s explore the science behind this fascinating event.
What Causes the Moon to Turn Red, Orange, and Yellow?
A total lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth moves directly between the Sun and the Moon. This alignment blocks most of the sunlight from reaching the Moon, casting a shadow over it. However, some light still makes its way to the Moon’s surface—but only certain colors survive the journey.
The reason the Moon takes on a reddish glow is due to a process called Rayleigh Scattering.
Shorter wavelengths of light (blue and violet) scatter more easily when passing through Earth’s atmosphere.
Longer wavelengths (red, orange, and yellow) are less scattered and pass through more effectively.
As sunlight travels through Earth’s atmosphere, these longer wavelengths bend around our planet and reach the Moon, coloring it in fiery hues.
This same process is why sunrises and sunsets appear red—the light is traveling through a larger portion of the atmosphere, filtering out the shorter blue wavelengths.
How a lunar eclipse happens The Earth casts its shadow on the Moon, creating the stunning Blood Moon effect.
What is a ‘Blood Moon’?
The term “Blood Moon” is not a scientific name but rather a popular nickname given to the Moon’s reddish appearance during a total lunar eclipse.
The color of a Blood Moon can vary depending on:
The amount of dust and pollution in Earth’s atmosphere.
Weather conditions and volcanic activity, which can make the Moon appear even redder.
How deep the Moon enters Earth’s shadow—if it is fully within the darkest part (umbra), it appears deep red; if it’s near the edge (penumbra), it may look more orange or yellow.
Historically, many cultures have linked Blood Moons to myths, legends, and even omens of change. However, science tells us that it’s simply a natural and predictable phenomenon.
The March 2025 ‘Worm Moon’ Lunar Eclipse
This particular Blood Moon coincided with March’s “Worm Moon,” a name given by the Farmer’s Almanac. The name originates from Native American traditions, marking the time when earthworms begin emerging from the soil as spring approaches.
The total lunar eclipse was visible to people across the Americas and the Western Hemisphere. According to NASA, the full moon remained in its totality early Friday morning and would continue through Saturday.
Islamic Perspective on Eclipses
The Blood Moon in its full glory! A breathtaking celestial event where the Moon turns red due to Earth’s shadow.
In Islam, eclipses are seen as signs of Allah’s greatness rather than supernatural omens or disasters. Islamic teachings emphasize that these celestial events should remind believers of Allah’s power and encourage them to turn to Him in prayer and reflection.
1. Eclipses as Signs of Allah’s Power
The Quran and Hadith explain that the Sun and Moon follow a precise order set by Allah. An eclipse is a natural occurrence and does not signify any specific misfortune or death.
Allah says in the Quran:
It is He Who created the night and the day, and the Sun and the Moon; all (the celestial bodies) swim along, each in its rounded course. (Surah Al-Anbiya 21:33)
This verse highlights that the Sun and Moon move according to Allah’s divine plan, and an eclipse is a part of this natural order.
2. The Prophetic Guidance on Eclipses
The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) taught that eclipses should lead Muslims to prayer and remembrance of Allah. He rejected myths that linked eclipses to the birth or death of important people.
A well-known Hadith states:
The Sun and the Moon are two signs among the signs of Allah. They do not eclipse because of someone’s death or life. So, when you see them, supplicate to Allah, glorify Him, perform prayer, and give charity. (Sahih al-Bukhari 1044, Sahih Muslim 901)
This Hadith emphasizes that eclipses are a time for spiritual reflection, prayer (Salat al-Kusoof for solar eclipses and Salat al-Khusuf for lunar eclipses), and good deeds rather than fear or superstition.
3. The Eclipse Prayer (Salat al-Kusoof & Salat al-Khusuf)
Islam prescribes a special prayer during an eclipse called Salat al-Kusoof (for solar eclipses) and Salat al-Khusuf (for lunar eclipses). This prayer consists of two Rak’ahs (units of prayer) with prolonged standing, bowing, and prostration.
The Prophet (ﷺ) and his companions performed this prayer whenever an eclipse occurred. It serves as a reminder of Allah’s majesty and our dependence on Him.
Many cultures believe that eclipses bring bad luck or disasters, but Islam rejects such superstitions. The Prophet (ﷺ) clearly stated that eclipses do not occur due to the fate of any person but are natural signs from Allah.
Instead of fear, Islam encourages believers to increase in worship, seek forgiveness, and perform righteous deeds during an eclipse.
In Islam, eclipses are signs of Allah’s power and serve as moments for prayer and reflection. They remind us of the temporary nature of life and our need to turn to Allah in all circumstances. By following the teachings of the Prophet (ﷺ), Muslims view eclipses as opportunities for worship rather than fear or superstition.
What Happens After an Eclipse? Changes on Earth, Moon, and the Solar System
Eclipses are fascinating celestial events that momentarily alter the appearance of the Sun or Moon. But what happens after an eclipse takes place? Do these events have any lasting effects on Earth, the Moon, or the solar system? While eclipses themselves are temporary, they can lead to subtle changes in the environment and even impact scientific research. Let’s explore what happens after an eclipse.
A mesmerizing sequence of a total lunar eclipse, showcasing the Moon’s gradual transition through Earth’s shadow.
Effects on Earth
1. Temporary Temperature Drop
During a solar eclipse, when the Moon blocks the Sun’s light, temperatures can drop suddenly. This is because the Earth is deprived of direct sunlight for a short period. The cooling effect can change local wind patterns and cause atmospheric disturbances.
2. Impact on Wildlife and Nature
Many animals and birds react to an eclipse as if it were nighttime. Birds stop chirping, nocturnal animals become active, and some plants close their petals, thinking night has arrived. Once the eclipse ends, they slowly return to their normal behavior.
3. Human Psychological and Cultural Impact
Eclipses have historically been linked to myths and superstitions. Even today, some cultures believe they bring omens or influence human behavior. Scientifically, an eclipse is a normal astronomical event, but its psychological impact on people varies.
Effects on the Moon
1. Changes in Temperature
The Moon experiences extreme temperature variations. During a lunar eclipse, when Earth’s shadow covers the Moon, its surface cools rapidly. This can cause tiny cracks in moon rocks over time due to thermal stress.
2. Surface Interaction with Earth’s Shadow
During a total lunar eclipse, the Moon appears red due to Earth’s atmosphere scattering sunlight. This phenomenon, called the “Blood Moon,” does not harm the Moon but allows scientists to study how Earth’s atmosphere affects light.
Effects on the Solar System
1. Gravitational Alignments
Eclipses occur when the Sun, Moon, and Earth align perfectly. This gravitational alignment can slightly affect tidal forces on Earth. However, these changes are temporary and do not cause long-term disruptions.
2. Observational Opportunities for Scientists
Eclipses provide astronomers with unique chances to study the Sun’s corona, the Moon’s surface, and Earth’s atmosphere. Many scientific discoveries, including the confirmation of Einstein’s theory of relativity, were made during eclipses.

Islamabad: Pakistan and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have made significant progress toward a Staff-Level Agreement (SLA) on the first review of the $7 billion loan program.
IMF Mission Chief Nathan Porter confirmed the development. He stated that discussions between the lender and Pakistani authorities moved forward on economic reforms under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF).
Loan Review and Future Funding
The IMF team, led by Porter, visited Pakistan from February 24 to March 14. They assessed Pakistan’s economic policies and considered a potential new arrangement under the Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF).
If the IMF approves the loan review, Pakistan will receive a $1 billion disbursement as the second installment of the package. The government expects a total of $2.2 billion from the EFF and RSF combined.
Economic Reforms and Key Areas of Progress
Porter highlighted Pakistan’s strong implementation of the IMF program. He mentioned that both sides reached agreements on key economic reforms, including:
Fiscal consolidation to reduce public debt.
Tight monetary policy to control inflation.
Energy sector reforms to cut costs.
Structural changes to boost growth and social spending.
Pakistan also made progress in climate-related financial planning. The government proposed projects to strengthen disaster resilience, which may qualify for additional IMF support.
In October 2024, Pakistan formally requested $1 billion under the Resilience and Sustainability Trust (RST). The IMF is reviewing the proposal.
Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb confirmed significant progress in negotiations. He stated that virtual discussions with the IMF will continue next week to finalize the agreement.
Revised Economic Projections
Pakistan and the IMF revised economic projections during the review process. The country’s GDP estimate for the fiscal year was reduced from Rs123 trillion to Rs116.5 trillion. The real GDP growth forecast also declined. However, inflation estimates improved, with CPI-based inflation now expected at 7%, down from 12.5%.
The government aims to secure additional climate finance under the IMF’s RSF. A dedicated fund will be created to support climate resilience projects. These efforts align with the IMF’s broader environmental goals.
IMF Approves Scrapping of Tajir Dost Scheme
The IMF agreed to eliminate the Tajir Dost Scheme (TDS). The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) provided data showing that tax collections from retailers and wholesalers surpassed expectations.
FBR introduced Video Analytics Rules to monitor production and expand the tax base. However, the IMF has not yet decided on the FBR’s proposal to reduce real estate tax rates.
A senior government official confirmed that the IMF was convinced to drop the TDS after reviewing data. The FBR had already collected over Rs400 billion from retailers and traders. With further revenue expected, the IMF found the TDS unnecessary.
Tax Collection Targets Adjusted
Pakistan committed to achieving a 10.6% tax-to-GDP ratio by June 30, 2025. Due to economic adjustments, the FBR’s tax target was revised from Rs12,970 billion to Rs12,350 billion.
Washington: The Trump administration is considering new travel restrictions on citizens from 41 countries. A classified memo outlines plans for visa suspensiaons based on security and screening concerns. Pakistan is among the nations that could face partial suspension if it fails to address deficiencies within 60 days.
The memo divides the 41 countries into three separate groups. The first group includes 10 nations, such as Afghanistan, Iran, Syria, Cuba, and North Korea. These countries face a complete suspension of US visa issuance.
The second group consists of Eritrea, Haiti, Laos, Myanmar, and South Sudan. These nations could see partial suspensions affecting tourist, student, and immigrant visas, with some exceptions.
The third group includes 26 countries, including Pakistan, Belarus, and Turkmenistan. These nations risk partial visa restrictions if they do not improve their security and screening procedures within two months.
Trump’s New Immigration Crackdown
President Trump issued an executive order on January 20, demanding stricter security checks for foreign nationals entering the US. The order requires officials to assess which countries provide inadequate screening. By March 21, they must submit a final list recommending full or partial suspensions.
This move echoes Trump’s first-term travel ban on several Muslim-majority nations. That policy, which faced multiple legal challenges, was eventually upheld by the US Supreme Court in 2018.
A US official, speaking anonymously, confirmed that the list is not final. It still requires approval from the administration, including US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
The New York Times first reported on the internal memo. The State Department has not yet issued a formal response.
Trump had previously announced his immigration plan in October 2023. He vowed to restrict travel from regions like Gaza, Libya, Somalia, Syria, Yemen, and other areas deemed security threats. His second-term immigration policies aim to enforce stricter entry requirements for foreign nationals.
The situation remains fluid, and affected countries may negotiate changes before the final list is approved.
Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has laid the foundation stone of Daanish University, a £190 million (Rs 60 billion) project.
While addressing the groundbreaking ceremony, PM Shehbaz praised Chief Justice Yahya Afridi and former chief justice Qazi Faez Isa for helping transfer £190 million to the national treasury.
The UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) had seized this amount from a property tycoon. Later, the Supreme Court redirected the funds to the federal government for the university.
Al-Qadir Trust Scandal and Fund Origins
These funds link to the £190 million case involving PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi. Both received prison sentences for their role in the Al-Qadir Trust scandal.
During Khan’s tenure, the UK’s NCA confiscated the assets. Instead of directing the money to public welfare, the government deposited it into the Supreme Court on behalf of a businessman. Shortly after, the Al-Qadir Trust emerged, allegedly to legalize the funds.
Free Education for Underprivileged Students
PM Shehbaz emphasized that students from all four provinces would access higher education at Daanish University. To ensure equal opportunities, underprivileged students will study for free.
Furthermore, the university aims to become a global institution with top faculty and cutting-edge research centers. Authorities plan to make the first section operational by August 14, 2026.
Strict Merit-Based Admissions
The prime minister confirmed that the university would admit students purely on merit. To ensure financial stability, a trust will manage the institution. Initially, the government will invest Rs10 billion as seed money.
Wealthy students will pay tuition, while deserving students will receive scholarships. Additionally, PM Shehbaz announced that officials had finalized the board of governors. He guaranteed that the government would not interfere in administrative matters, ensuring the university’s autonomy.
Public Money Used for Education
Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal stressed the significance of using public money wisely. He criticized the previous government for failing to allocate the funds properly.
Daanish University will play a crucial role in preparing students for the industrial revolution. The institution will offer specialized programs in artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, space sciences, and other emerging technologies.
Global Partnerships and Future Goals
To elevate Pakistan’s education sector, the government will collaborate with international institutions. According to Ahsan Iqbal, these partnerships will help transfer advanced technology to students and researchers.
Karachi: The missing wheel from Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Flight 306 has been found at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport. Airport staff located the wheel near the remote parking bay, close to the Ispahani Hangar.
Technicians from the airport’s wheel shop found the detached wheel next to the landing gear of a grounded Boeing 777. The discovery came after an urgent inspection of the airport premises.
No Casualties or Property Damage Reported
The Pakistan Airport Authority (PAA) confirmed that the wheel’s detachment caused no casualties or property damage. Authorities are now investigating how the wheel became separated from the aircraft.
Flight PK 306, traveling from Karachi to Lahore, completed its journey without issue. The flight landed safely in Lahore as per schedule.
The absence of one of the six main landing gear wheels was detected during a routine post-landing inspection. PIA engineers immediately reported the issue, prompting a search at Karachi Airport.
Investigation Underway
Aviation authorities have launched an inquiry into the incident. They are examining maintenance records and inspecting other aircraft to prevent similar occurrences.
Passengers on the flight remained unaware of the missing wheel until after landing. PIA has assured that flight safety was never compromised.
Karachi witnessed another tragic day as reckless driving claimed six lives and injured three others in separate incidents. These accidents occurred just a day after the city’s police chief established the Karachi Road Accident Analysis Team (Kraat) to investigate the increasing number of traffic accidents, particularly those involving heavy vehicles.
Deadly Accidents Across the City
Karachi Traffic Police Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Pir Mohammed Shah confirmed the fatalities, detailing each incident.
Early in the morning, a Bykea rider and a passenger were hit by an unknown vehicle near the Japan consulate. The impact threw them onto the footpath. They were rushed to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), where the passenger was pronounced dead. The Bykea rider survived but remains under medical care.
In Liaquatabad, a pedestrian named Mohammed Shahid lost his life in a hit-and-run accident. According to Sharifabad police, an unidentified vehicle struck him while he was crossing the street.
Another fatal accident occurred on Northern Bypass in Manghopir, where a motorcyclist was hit by an unknown vehicle. A witness reported that a bus was involved. Manghopir police later identified the deceased as Wali Deedar.
The city’s struggle with heavy vehicle accidents continued. Mauripur police reported that Bashir Ahmed, 40, was hit by a trailer while transporting doors in a Suzuki van near Muslim Kanta. He died instantly. The drivers fled, leaving behind their vehicles, which the police impounded.
Near Qayumabad Bridge, a trailer hit a motorcycle, killing one rider and critically injuring another. Their identities remain unknown. In Korangi’s Nasir Jump area, an 18-year-old named Immanuel Shahbaz succumbed to injuries after a separate crash.
These accidents highlight Karachi’s growing traffic crisis, despite recent efforts to control reckless driving and heavy vehicle movement.
Government Efforts and Public Concerns
In response to increasing fatalities, the Sindh government recently imposed restrictions on heavy vehicles. Dumpers and trailers can now operate only between 11 PM and 6 AM. Additionally, all heavy vehicles must pass a mandatory fitness test.
Despite these measures, critics argue that enforcement remains weak. Human rights activists claim the rising death toll reflects poor traffic management and inadequate law enforcement. Provincial lawmakers from Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) have also slammed the traffic police for failing to control reckless heavy vehicles. In January alone, over 80 people lost their lives due to such accidents.
A Long Road Ahead
The Karachi Road Accident Analysis Team (Kraat) has begun investigating accident causes, starting with a fatal crash near Frere Hall. However, officials admit it will be a painstaking process to determine solutions.
While authorities scramble to curb reckless driving, Karachi’s roads remain dangerous. Unless stricter enforcement and long-term traffic reforms are implemented, the city’s growing number of fatal accidents will continue to put lives at risk.
