PTI govt to initiate contempt proceedings against ECP

ISLAMABAD: The government has warned the ECP that it may face contempt charges.

The PTI government said on Tuesday that if the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) does not tender resignations, it will face contempt charges.

Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry said consultations with the attorney-general were conducted after the Cabinet meeting, which was chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan.

The minister was quoted in The News as saying, “They are working on the case that if the ECP — chief election commissioner (CEC) and four provincial representatives — did not step down, the government might launch contempt of court proceedings against them and then use all possible options on that count.”

The federal government requested that the ECP resign on Monday, claiming that it had “absolutely refused” to hold open Senate elections.

Fawad Chaudhry clarified that they (ECP members) should understand the condition and withdraw; otherwise, the government had options (solutions) open to it, including contempt of court proceedings against them, among others.

“As a political party, we recommend that you resign so that Parliament will nominate a new election commissioner,” the minister told the electoral commission.

Fawad argued, citing Article 218 (3), that the Election Commission’s primary duty was to guarantee free, equal, and open elections and to prevent corruption, which it failed to do, and that all political parties agreed on this.

Similarly, he went on to say that the Supreme Court of Pakistan advised the ECP to follow the Constitution and use technology to hold free and open Senate elections, but that it failed to do so.

He noted that several videos had gone viral even before the polls and then asked journalists if the Senate elections were open, fair, and honest and if there were no unethical activities involved in the process.

PM mentions new challenges to national security

Food security and climate change, Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Wednesday, are new threats to national security.

During his speech, the premier said that Pakistan needed to discuss the idea of national security, which he described as “more than just matters and affairs related to strengthening the country’s security forces.”

The premier made the remarks at the Islamabad Security Dialogue, where he also unveiled the National Security Division’s (NSD) advice portal, which connects policymakers with over 100 think tanks and university departments.

“We are gradually realizing that national security applies to areas that no one cares about; nowadays, national security encompasses many issues that were overlooked in previous decades, such as climate change, food security, and economic development,” says the author.

The premier, in addressing the topic of climate change, said that it was also a matter of national security. He said that no one had previously paid attention to the problem, despite the fact that it was a “terrifying thing” that had the potential to outweigh all else for future generations.

“Pakistan is one of the countries taking action to fight climate change,” he added, adding that the PTI government’s ’10 Billion Tree Tsunami’ project had gained international attention.

Another problem, according to PM Imran, is food security, which the government will resolve in the coming weeks with a comprehensive program.

The economy, according to the prime minister, plays an important role in national security. “National stability cannot be [envisaged] in a world with a few affluent individuals and a sea of deprived individuals.”

He defined stable countries as those in which every person believes they have a stake in the government, citing China as a model for poverty eradication.

He defined stable countries as those in which every person believes they have a stake in the government, citing China as a model for poverty eradication.

He pointed to the incumbent government’s attempts to eradicate hunger, such as the Ehsaas Emergency Cash Policy and tailored incentives for the needy.

Scientists proposed building a lunar ark for doomsday

Scientists intend to form an underground lunar ark embedded in a network of tubes on the moon, packed with millions of seed, spore, sperm, and egg specimens from Earth’s animals, to provide a genetic replacement for the world in the event of a doomsday scenario.

Researchers at the University of Arizona have suggested an ark for 6.7 million Earth animals, called a “new global insurance program,” that will be cryogenically frozen and buried underneath the moon’s crust in a network of caves and tunnels.

They claimed that the vault could preserve genetic resources in the event of “complete annihilation of Earth,” which would be caused by a significant reduction in biodiversity — but any plans to construct such a bunker are still years away.

In a statement, a scientist said, “As humans, we had a close call about 75,000 years ago with the Toba supervolcanic eruption.”

He continued, “which triggered a 1,000-year cooling cycle which, according to others, corresponds to an expected reduction in human diversity. Since human civilisation has such a huge footprint, if it were to crumble, it might have a negative cascading impact on the rest of the world.”

On Earth, equivalent “doomsday vaults” exist: the Global Seed Vault is situated on a small island in Svalbard, an archipelago located between Norway and the North Pole, and holds just under 1 million seed samples.

The team from the University of Arizona claims their idea could save life on Earth in the event of the planet we call home is lost, according to a paper published earlier this month.

The project is reliant on advances in cryo-robotics technologies, according to the researchers. To be cryopreserved, seeds must be cooled to minus 292 degrees Fahrenheit, while stem cells must be held at minus 320 degrees Fahrenheit. However, the team warns that at such temperatures, the base’s metal parts can freeze, jam, or cold-weld together.

Researchers are still unsure how a lack of gravity could impact stored seeds or how to interact with a base on Earth.

In 2013, scientists discovered a network of 200 lava tubes underneath the moon’s crust, which emerged billions of years ago when waves of lava eroded into the soft rock to create underwater tunnels.

The cylinders, which are 100 meters (328 feet) in diameter, could provide the ideal protection for the valuable cargo, shielding it from solar radiation, surface temperature changes, and micrometeorites, according to scientists.

The underground ark, which would be powered by solar panels, would be reached through elevator shafts that would lead to a storage facility for cryogenic preservation modules.

According to scientists, transporting approximately 50 samples from each of the 6.7 million animals to the moon will take 250 rocket launches. On the moon, and construction for a different mission is already planned.

Biden urges migrants to stop coming

President Biden is now asking migrants who are preparing to move to the United States to rethink their intentions.

Biden was asked by ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos if it was a “mistake” for his administration not to “anticipate” the surge at the southern border after the 2020 presidential election during an interview that will air on Wednesday’s “Good Morning America.”

Biden countered by referring to other boundary spikes in 2019 and 2020, but Stephanopolous argued that “this one could be worse.”

“Here’s the deal: we’re taking people back,” Biden said, ignoring opponents who suspect him of enticing refugees to come when he takes office during the campaign.

Thousands of migrant children are arriving at the border and being housed in different shelters, including the White House’s denial that the massive influx is a “crisis.”

You should never combine these foods together

When it comes to juices and salads we tend to combine them with one thing or another. Sometimes when making salads we add fruits and vegetables to make it scrumptious. And hey who doesn’t know about strawberry milkshakes and smoothies with other fruits too? We all love that.

But since different fruits and vegetables have different elements and properties in them, they sometimes are bad when combined together.

Nutritionists have suggested that there are some wrong combos we make since they taste good.

So, Day News decided to look further for that and this is what we have gotten.

Here are the 10 food combinations you never knew are harmful to your body

1. Fries and Burger

What? Burger and fries are inseparable, that’s the way we have been eating it for centuries. Yeah, we know this would have come to you as a shock because burgers and fries have been served together as old as time.

This combination is certainly unfavorable for you since they both have trans fat in them. Fries are deep-fried and so is the burger patty, therefore when this combo is eaten together it lowers your blood sugar levels. You then start to feel sleepy and tired.

2. Fruits with vegetables

Yes! You heard this right. Fruits and vegetables may taste good when eaten together but they are harmful as well. This combination is not good for your digestive system since they both are digested differently. For instance, eating oranges and carrots may lead to excess bile reflux and lead to heartburn.

3. Milk and banana

Nutritionists consider this combination a bad one since it leads to producing toxins in your body. By the time this shake reaches your stomach banana becomes sour which curdles milk. The milk becomes a heavy “mucus-forming substance which by no means is good.

Those who are struggling to lose weight should try to stay away from this banana and milk combo. Due to the 25 percent sugar in it, this shake would spike insulin which is not good for your body.

4. Acidic and sweet fruits

Pakistanis are familiar with this combination. Mostly when the holy month of Ramadan arrives, fruit-chaat (a dish made with several fruits in it) is a must-have at an iftar table. This mixture of several fruits is mindlessly used by people.

According to nutritionists when sweet fruits are combined with acidic ones they are likely to hamper your digestive system. It can often lead to nausea, acidosis, and headaches.

5. Yogurt and Fruits

As a matter of fact, combining fruits with dairy products can lead to many health hazards. Dairy products can be congestive which means that they can lead to, colds, blocking sinuses, and some allergies. This is why when they are combined, become even worse.

6. Pasta and Tomatoes

Wait, what? “Pasta and tomatoes are made for one another” that’s what you’re thinking right? We know it’s quite shocking to know that a tasty combination can be harmful. According to nutritionists, pasta is starchy carbs, which can be difficult to digest. On the other hand, tomatoes are quite acidic that can cause bloating and hinder digestion.

7. Meat and Potatoes

There are some folks who like to eat meat and mashed potatoes. But this combination can also cause digestive issues and due to lack of it can upset your stomach.

8. Pizza and Soda

Those who like to have soda and pizza together, be careful! Because the carbs and proteins in the pizza will make it hard for your stomach to digest when taken with fizzy drinks.

9. Aerated drinks and peppermint

In some restaurants, there are some thirst-quenching drinks available that are made with peppermint. They neither are good for your stomach. Some also believe that when these two are combined together make cyanide but some have refuted this belief. So why take a risk?

10. Cheese and drinks

Well, this might also come as a surprise to many of you, this fact gave us quite a turn as well. When cheesy foods and aerated drinks are combined they make a bad reaction to your stomach. It can lead to discomfort and stomach ache.

11. Bonus: Cereal and milk

YES! You heard that right sadly it is not a good combination. Some of you are thinking that it is the most obvious combination on earth but it is not.

Yes, our entire lives were a lie!

But no it’s not.

According to nutritionists milk and cereal contain fast digestive carbs. This is why this combo puts your body under stress which can result in blood sugar spikes.

Well, we can go on and on about what doesn’t suit best with what. At least you now know the basics and can avoid having these combinations that we have just mentioned above.

These combinations can affect your health and can interfere with your productivity. So you should take eating and food combinations seriously, at least after reading this article.

Tell us what you think of it? Which one of the above combinations was the most surprising for you?

A political emergency for Joe Biden

Hundreds of migrant children are crossing the Southwest border alone, and the White House may be reluctant to mark the situation a disaster. However, with the incoming President, it is quickly becoming a national emergency.

The plight of poor people escaping hunger, tyranny, crime, and natural disasters is churned in the maelstrom of Washington politics, as is always the case. The fact that so many of those affected are young and are being held in detention facilities in the midst of a pandemic adds to the tragedy.

However, it seems that refugees seeking a better life in the United States have misinterpreted Biden’s pledges for a more humanitarian immigration policy than ex-President Donald Trump as a warning to flock to the US frontier. The recruiting methods of human traffickers are exacerbating this perception.

On CNN’s “New Day,” Roberta Jacobson, the Southern Border Coordinator, said the Trump administration had only been in office for a few weeks and had worked “quickly” to restore decency to US immigration policy, alert possible refugees in local media that the border was closed, and raise economic and food assistance to keep immigrants in their home countries.

There were indications that the administration is starting to understand the diplomatic and humanitarian threats raised by the border crisis, as many senior officials appeared on television to support the White House’s handling of border policy reforms.

On ABC’s “Good Morning America,” Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said the White House was increasing the ability to deal with the surge of children at the border and “critically sent a vital message that now is not the time to come to the border.”

The increase in migrants crossings lately has been a challenge for the Republicans and the new president. The pressure is building on Joe Biden from the people of his own party.

As the controversy is worsening, it is also paving way for many questions circling around the border security and the fates of dozens of undocumented migrants in the US.

Signal becomes unavailable to Chinese users

The encrypted app, Signal, has been unavailable in mainland China Tuesday Morning.

According to news from TechCrunch and Reuters, Signal, one of the few Western social media apps available in China, has gone silent.

Since early Tuesday morning, the encrypted software, which is commonly used by reporters and those who need total secrecy, has been inaccessible in mainland China.

Meanwhile, on March 15th, the website of Signal was blocked across the country.

The signal is still available for free on Apple’s App Store in China, according to TechCrunch, indicating that the government hasn’t asked Apple to delete it and that it can still be accessed via a virtual private network.

The app has been downloaded over 500,000 times in China, which is a small amount relative to the 1.1 billion users of WeChat, China’s most common messaging app. But, considering China’s tight internet rules, this is still a large number.

Such prominent social media applications, such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, have also been banned by the government for years.

According to Reuters, the software has previously stopped operating in China without a VPN until resuming service, but it’s unclear if the latest interruption will be permanent.

Signal’s popularity has soared recently around the world, particularly after WhatsApp’s terms were changed to enable parent company Facebook to share user data.

Tax specialists observe issues in tax system

ISLAMABAD: Complications and irritants in current tax processes must be overcome in order to fully use the country’s tax capacity.

According to former vice president of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) MA Jabbar, taxation schemes are getting more nuanced with each budgetary exercise, likely due to the Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) decreased consultations with stakeholders.

He stated that the business sector is significantly overburdened to address its tax problems rather than participate in economic practices on the basis of a tax-predictable business climate to lead to improving socio-economic conditions when speaking at a seminar on the current tax regime.

FPCCI Vice President Hanif Lakhani, who was also present at the seminar, raised the issue of meeting collection goals in the face of slowing expansion, which has shifted the FBR’s emphasis from widening the tax base to existing registered persons.

Dr. Ikramul Haq, a tax specialist, claims to have invented a tax reform model that would usher in a paradigm change in Pakistan’s taxation system. The model would be in accordance with the incentives expected to stimulate economic development and enforcement.

Variable income tax, skewed and various excise taxes, customs and SROs culture, multiple revenue enforcement departments, and an ineffective appeal procedure were all addressed by Haq.

He agrees that the tax rate should be flat and that the tax base should be broad. He went on to state that taxpayers have to compete with a slew of revenue and non-revenue agencies, as well as a hostile atmosphere that makes it impossible to optimize the country’s tax capacity.

Green infrastructure to mitigate global warming?

Ever since major cities are experiencing high temperatures, their governments have decided to turn to Green infrastructure to mitigate rising temperatures in an urban area.

They are turning to different methods of planting trees in developed cities that are filled with dark pavement and concrete that absorb the heat of the sun.

This is why it’s getting hotter and hotter every year since we have stopped planting trees.

One of the reasons that stimulate urban environments to reach heating temperatures is a dearth of vegetation.

Trees can make an enormous difference in this regard. Promoting greenery can resist global warming up to a great level. This is why they have come up with a model.

One model recommends that developed cities’ temperatures could be decreased by over four degrees Fahrenheit if we started planting trees.

These arduous tree-planting undertakings are not as simple as planting a few saplings and calling it a day.

Presently, pandemic-related slowdowns are making finalizing these projects even more difficult in urban areas where heat surges more often so much so that it’s not just uncomfortable, but fatal.

Experts say that there’s commonly this kind of incorrect belief that we place in trees, that they will deliver all of these wonderful social advantages.

But the environmental advantages that trees deliver are totally “context-dependent” Patchy adoption of sprawling tree seeding programs may not steer to the cooling wind we hope in urban habitats.

Experts are bending over backward to cover the cities but these efforts are not sufficient to do that ever since the pandemic has spewed.

As we entered 2020, the endeavor was not ramping up fast sufficiently to achieve the purpose even before the pandemic.

Since covid has slowed down everything and the planting projects are no exception. In comparison to the thousands of trees planted by the city council, Mark Hartman, the city of Phoenix’s chief sustainability officer, said that neighborhood tree planting events accounted for around 1000 trees each year.

Anything that can help contain the heat in some of the hottest areas of cities like Phoenix is badly needed. According to Arizona State University sustainability experts, the city of Phoenix can be up to 15 degrees colder at night than the surrounding desert.

When city engineers took a thermometer to the streets during the day, they learned that bare pavement can exceed temperatures of over 160 degrees, which is hot enough to fry an egg (but with disappointing, inedible results). Walking across a griddle-hot pavement to get to work, school, and do your everyday chores takes a toll on your wellbeing, as you would expect.

People walk a lot of Phoenix’s low-income communities, which have a lot of immigrant families and people of color, but the streets aren’t lined with the leafy oaks, ashes, and elms that line the streets of more wealthy neighborhoods.

Researchers at Arizona State University used satellite imagery in a 2007 analysis to quantitatively demonstrate something that is evident to the naked eye: higher-income communities have a lot of trees.

According to the same report, socioeconomic disparities cause differences in surface temperature between communities.

The temperature in communities in the bottom 10% of the income level is 2.5 degrees Fahrenheit higher on average than in neighborhoods in the top 10%, making it all the more important that tree planting projects prioritize the areas with the least canopy cover.

According to Hartman, the city of Phoenix’s streets department has begun planting trees “exclusively” in areas with “extreme heat risk, high walking, high pedestrian corridors.”

Although trees are a potentially “green” solution to the oppressive summer city temperatures, in reality, many challenges occur, including keeping track of how many trees have already taken root and persuading landowners to continue planting saplings along with their private property.

Cities are now doing such a good job in some situations that they are running out of capacity, such as Washington, D.C., which has 38 percent canopy coverage but hopes to increase it to 40 percent.

Public property alone isn’t enough for new trees in Washington D.C., as well as in cities like Phoenix and Los Angeles, and now, residents will have to plant trees on private property to help reach their canopy coverage goals. In many cases, that means landowners need to take care of those trees since they technically don’t belong to the city itself.

New York, on the other hand, proved that ambitious canopy goals are not out of reach. In 2007, during the first of his three terms as mayor of New York, Michael Bloomberg launched a public-private partnership whose goal was to plant a million trees in 10 years—and it got there two years ahead of schedule.

Finally, while trees are a nice place to start, we still have a lot to think about how well they work to cool down our hottest cities. Turner says, “I don’t believe we have the solution because the systems aren’t advanced enough to make a measurable difference.”

Many of these projects are failed to achieve their original targets because it takes years for trees to develop into full-fledged shade-providers. She believes that in the future, communities will need to consider not only whether they met a nominal target for tree planting, but also how well those trees, however many they are, provided the cooling benefits that the city requires.

New 2,511 corona cases, 58 deaths in Pakistan

In just 24 hours, Pakistan announced 2,511 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total number of Covid-19 cases in the world to 609,964.

Additionally, 1,136 people recovered from the viral disease in a single day, bringing the overall number of patients that have recovered to 573,014.

The death toll in the world has increased to 13,595 after 58 people died of the disease.

From today, Tuesday, people above the age of 70 will be able to get vaccinated on the spot.

Due to a high death rate among senior citizens, the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) announced on Monday that elderly citizens aged 70 and up who have registered on the helpline 1166 will be able to step into any vaccination center from Tuesday (today) to get vaccinated against Covid-19.

according to the reports, President Dr. Arif Alvi and First Lady Samina Alvi received their vaccines at a vaccination center in Tarlai, Islamabad’s suburbs.

After the NCOC conference, which was also attended by all chief secretaries via video connection, people were urged to ensure that senior citizens were vaccinated, as the majority of mortality cases were registered in this age group.

The walk-in vaccination policy will be implemented throughout the world, as well as in Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

According to the center, elderly citizens can register themselves by sending their computerized national identity card (CNIC) number to 1166. They can also visit any vaccination center. They should, however, bring their CNICs along with them.

The meeting raised concern about the increasing national positivity ratio and an uptick in hospital admissions and urged regional governments to take stringent measures against anyone that breach basic operating procedures (SOPs)

Punjab was found to be responsible for 55% of national mortality, according to the NCOC.

The NCOC also asked tourists visiting Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and other destinations to follow proper SOPs.

It urged provinces to ensure that health regulations were enforced in transportation and hotels, failing which the tourism industry could be closed down.

Heavy fines, company closures, and the imposition of a prison term, according to a Ministry of National Health Services official who asked not to be identified.

The LHC takes note of attack on Shahbaz Gill

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) takes note of the attack on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shahbaz Gill outside the court. Authorities are directed to review CCTV video, locate those involved, and bring them to justice.

The LHC ordered immediate action against those responsible for the attack on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Shahbaz Gill on the court premises yesterday.

After reviewing the closed-circuit television (CCTV) video, Justice Malik Shehzad Ahmad Khan ordered the authorities to find those responsible and bring them to justice.

The judge, on the other hand, ordered the cops not to bother someone who hasn’t been found guilty of the murder.

supporters from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) allegedly threw eggs and ink at Gill at the LHC on Monday.

When the incident occurred, Gill, the special assistant to the prime minister on political communication, was on his way to the high court to attend the hearings of a lawsuit.

One footage showed a group of PML-N women standing by the PTI leader’s car, carrying shoes in their laps, and another showed a man wounded.

“Eggs and black ink were hurled at me; it was the colour of PML-black N’s behavior!” the SAPM said in response to media inquiries about what happened to him after he successfully made it inside. “They’ve turned to vandalize now,” Gill said.

During a brawl outside the parliament on March 6, PML-N chief Ahsan Iqbal was throwing a shoe. Prime Minister Imran Khan was to obtain a vote of confidence from the lawmakers.

Govt seeks ECP resign en masse

ISLAMABAD: The ruling party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), sought the resignation of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday, accusing it of “total incompetence” in conducting open Senate elections and thereby losing the government’s confidence.

The PTI government and the commission got into a battle when the latter claimed in the Supreme Court that the Senate election should be held by secret ballot, amid the government’s attempts to conduct the election by open ballot.

Three federal ministers held a joint news conference in the federal capital on Monday, calling for the ECP’s resignation and the establishment of a new election monitoring system that could be trusted by everyone.

On March 3, the election was held using secret balloting. Hafeez Sheikh of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was defeated by Yousuf Raza Gilani of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) in the general election in Islamabad. Following the order for re-polls in Daska, the PTI is still dissatisfied with the ECP.

“It is the election commission’s duty to ensure transparent elections. Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood, flanked by Information Minister Shibli Faraz and Science and Technology Minister Fawad Chaudhry, told the press conference that his duty had not been fulfilled.

“At this time, no political faction is pleased with the Senate election results. “All of these things back Imran Khan’s stance [on free voting],” he said.

The government raises the price of kerosene by Rs3.42

ISLAMABAD: The government raised kerosene and light diesel oil (LDO) tariffs on Monday, the new rates will be effective from today.

The price of kerosene oil was boosted by Rs3.42 per litre, from Rs80.19 to Rs83.61, by the government.

Within the fortnightly market adjustment process, the premiums will be in place for the next two weeks.

It also lifted the price of LDO by Rs2.19 per litre, from Rs 79.23 to Rs 81.42 per litre.

The nation, on the other hand, made no improvements to the prices of gasoline and high-speed diesel (HSD).

The HSD is used in agriculture and transportation, so the government’s decision not to change its price would have an effect.

The government has kept the current 116.08 per litre mark. It has also retained the petrol price at Rs 111.90 a litre.

Kerosene oil is commonly used by the poor in rural areas and hilly areas where Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) is not usable for cooking. In industry, the LDO is used.

Despite having very little fiscal space, the government agreed to keep the prices of gasoline and high-speed diesel the same, according to the article.

Nevertheless, since no Petroleum Levy (PL) was paid on kerosene oil and light diesel oil, their prices were slightly increased by Rs3.42 per litre and Rs2.19 per litre, respectively, owing to a substantial rise in foreign petroleum product prices, according to the statement.

IED explosion on Rangers personnel

KARACHI: An improvised explosive device planted in a motorcycle exploded in Orangi Town on Monday, killing a Pakistan Rangers official and injuring 16 others, including two Rangers personnel.

The explosion was so large that it smashed the windows of many nearby buildings in addition to destroying the Rangers’ smartphone, which was hit in the attack. In addition, a car and several motorcycles parked near the paramilitary force’s vehicle were destroyed.

A sizable police and ranger contingent arrived at the scene and cordoned off the area. The deceased and wounded were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where Roshan Ali, the former, was named.

Two Rangers, Muhammad Hanif and Ejaz Ali, were among the wounded, as were civilians Yasir Hussain, Irfan Nasir, Hussain, Babu Khan, Sobar Hassan, Waqar Ali, Yousuf, Nadeem, Ghulam Ali, Akbar, Saleem Farooq, Irfan, and Mehboob.

According to the initial report from the bomb disposal team, the IED planted in a nearby motorcycle was exploded using a remote control device. It went off as the Rangers mobile moved through the field, containing four to five kilograms of explosives and ball bearings.

Two suspects were seen parking their motorcycle and boarding a rickshaw across the road on CCTV video from the explosion. The explosive is exploded as the Rangers car approaches the motorcycle. The video shows mayhem erupting on the busy highway, with onlookers running for cover.

The suspects were allegedly present when the bomb was exploded, according to investigators. The cops confirmed that the geo-fencing of the city will be completed.

As AIG Ghulam Nabi Memon arrived at the blast site several hours later, he said the inquiry had made considerable progress.

The sacrifices of the paramilitary force, army, and other law enforcement agencies in maintaining law and order in the city are highly valued by the Sindh government, he said. “Anti-state forces are seeking to destabilize the city’s peace, but these terrorists will be defeated.”

Imran Ismail, the governor of Sindh, was also alerted to the attack. “An explosion near a Rangers mobile in Karachi’s Orangi Town is causing considerable concern. It is critical that this incident be investigated right away. The hurt should be given medical attention. He tweeted, “We recognize their sacrifices for the restoration of peace in Karachi.”

Maryam Lashes out NAB on Monday

LAHORE: Vice President of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Maryam Nawaz labeled the National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) request to cancel her bail “ludicrous”, claiming the body had devolved into a vengeance machine.

On Monday, the PML-N leader said that “I went every time NAB summoned me, despite the assassination attempt,”

The PML-N leader’s remarks came during a media talk just before the High Court of Lahore (LHC) was set up to take up NAB’s appeal in the case of Chaudhry Sugar Mills over its post-arrest bail.

Maryam alleged that the anti-graft watchdog had struggled to control corrupt practices and had declined to take responsibility for it.

The PML-N chief also claimed that a lawsuit should be brought against the NAB for filing a false petition in court, alleging that the bureau had devolved into a vengeful organization that she was attempting to reveal.

She also rejected that narrative that she is taking part in any form of anti-state propaganda.

Maryam continued to say that she had been held in detention for three months after being arrested in front of her lawyer, Nawaz Sharif, the Supreme PML-N.

Maryam questioned the NAB’s rationale for canceling her parole, claiming that she was “misusing her bail” by speaking out about state institutions after being given one. “Who gives you the freedom to judge statements?” she said.

The PML-N VC went on to say that the NAB was angry because she was speaking out against inflation, nepotism, gas and energy theft, and the inability of the government to clean up garbage piles in towns.

Making reference to accusations made by her and other party leaders targeting state institutions through political speeches and social media, she argued that the assertion made by Mian Javed Latif, a member of the PML-N National Assembly, had been framed after being distorted.

She stated that the PML-N will not remain quiet and will continue to pursue its political objectives.

The PML-N VC went on to say that the NAB was angry because she was speaking out against inflation, nepotism, gas and energy theft, and the inability of the government to clean up garbage piles in towns.

“You can’t intimidate Maryam Nawaz by threatening to throw her in prison. She isn’t a coward like [PM] Imran Khan, so it won’t happen,” she said.

Maryam asked the judiciary to take care of such bogus pleas and to take action against the NAB itself.

“I am hopeful that the high court will not only dismiss this appeal but will also put a stop to future ludicrous petitions,” she added.

Pakistan becomes the largest importers in Asia: SIPRI

STOCKHOLM: The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), on Monday, informed via a report that Pakistan, among other counties, such as India, Australia, China, and South Korea, was the largest importer of major weapons.

In the report by SIPRI, Pakistan collected 42% of global arms transactions in 2016–20.

The United States, France, and Germany – three of the world’s largest exporters – increased supplies, but the decline in exports from Russia and China offset the growth, SIPRI added.

Foreign supplies of weapons were flat, it added, in the period 2016-2020, ending more than a decade of expansions.

The number of major weapons exports between countries – an indication of demand – did not increase from the previous five-year cycle for the first time since 2001–2005, according to SIPRI.

Although the pandemic has slowed down markets across the world and driven many countries into deep recessions, SIPRI said it was too early to say if a slowdown in weapons supplies is likely to occur.

In a statement, Pieter Wezeman, a senior researcher with the SIPRI Weapons and Military Expenditure Programme, said, “The economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic could see some countries reassessing their arms imports in the coming years.”

“However, at the same time, also at the height of the 2020 pandemic, many countries have signed large weapons contracts.”

Guns sales from the Middle East increased by 25% from 2011 to 2015 in 2016–20, compared to 2011–15.

For eg, the United Arab Emirates recently signed an agreement with the United States to buy 50 F-35 jets and up to 18 armed drones as part of a $23 billion deal.

Saudi Arabia, the world’s largest weapons importer, grew its imports by 61%, while Qatar raised its imports by 361%.

“For many countries in Asia and Oceania, the increasing view of China as a threat is the key driver of weapons imports,” said Siemon Wezeman, Senior Vice President.

Aiman comments about Mawra, receives backlash

Pakistani actress Aiman Khan hit the headlines as she made several remarks about fellow actor Mawra Hocane. While reacting to a quick-fire question on a star talk show with Muneeb Butt’s husband, the Baandi star stated that Mawra “should gain some weight because she’s really skinny.”

This comment made by Aiman Khan about Mawra didn’t sit well with several social media users. On social media, they called out the celebrity for body-shaming Mawra.

Aiman said, “My schooling, my accent is not your concern. Will my degree offer you a job? No, isn’t it? Keep your nose out of my life, thank you. Make it simple and end the nonsense.”

Asking netizens to keep their own mind, Mother-of-One posted on Instagram, “I don’t understand why people take it literally and perpetuate negativity. My life is not your property, you have no right to say something to me until I can say something to you.”

She went on, “Games are games and shows are shows-nothing is intimate. I don’t believe blogs are supposed to make anything breaking news. We’re still hurting a lot, so stop making our lives rough with your dumb remarks. Stop making problems out of nothing at all. Stop the bullshit, stop the hatred.”

Later, the star of Sanam Teri Kasam also referred to the buzz. “To all the social media accounts and followers, I don’t appreciate someone tossing the other person under the bus in the garb of helping me,” she said.

“We need to know how much we need to go, not to vilify the other party in the process. We’re all imperfect and speak sentences that we don’t really comprehend or understand. Let’s be kind to you. Let’s give each other room for change and not do the same or worse thing by spewing animosity,” Mawra concluded.

Successful people do this on Sundays

When we think about Sunday, the first thing that comes to our mind is the holiday. Sundays are wonderful days. For most of us, Sundays are a day of rest—an opportunity to relax, spend time with family and friends, and get away from work. Yet, for many people, Sundays can be a sad day. The thought of having to go back to work the next day to join the hustle and bustle of daily working life creates a gloomy shadow over a day that should be a delight.

In the correct approach, though, Sundays can be days of revitalization opportunity to refuel our batteries—and to set ourselves up for a great week. It’s just the way you look on Sundays.

Some people just relax while others gear themselves up to face the challenges of the coming week by investing some time to plan things.

Here are ten things successful people do on Sundays.

1. They wake up early

Some people think that Sunday is about getting up late. This is why their tasks for the day are usually pending and this results in delay in every single task.

Because of over-sleeping on a Sunday, people find it difficult to go to bed Sunday night.

This messes up with your sleep schedule. The next day at work you feel lethargic and don’t feel like working just because you didn’t get enough sleep.

But successful people always get up on time and maintain their regular sleep patterns. Your productivity is less likely to sink when you are getting enough sleep.

2. They spend some time Exercising

Successful people never take their bodies for granted. In order to be active your body needs some exercise daily.

But this doesn’t mean you should go out for a ten-mile run or hours of an intense workout.

In fact, they go out for a walk in the early morning and enjoy nature. This is also one of the ways you can relieve stress by doing some healthy exercise.

3. They spend some quality time with friends and family

Successful individuals know the importance of hanging out with family and friends. This way they derive positive energy from people around them. Some people would plan out a vacation or picnic. While some would spend some time making dinner and eating it together.

But hanging out with them doesn’t mean you should plan something expensive. what it means is that you can have some time at the dinner table, or coffee table and have a nice conversation.

4. They plan and organize their schedule

Successful people and their calendars go hand in hand. They are always having a schedule so they don’t miss anything just because they didn’t know how to handle things.

Successful individuals prioritize their time and set goals and deadlines for the upcoming week.

5. They eat healthy

Having a healthy diet is a key thing if you really want to get success in life. It is not because people will see you as a healthy person but rather it is what you feel.

If you feel good about your health, you don’t need to worry about it which is why it is easier to focus on work.

So you can say that your healthy diet is directly proportional to success. This is why successful people tend to eat healthy on Sundays because they don’t want to upset their stomach at work.

6. Bonus: They spend some time Reading

Have you ever heard that the most successful people are the ones who are curious? They always want to find out ways to do it. They want to know more. This curiosity takes them to the heights of success.

This is only possible with reading. Sundays are a good day to read something they would find interesting and from where they can get some ideas.

Conclusion

Successful people do this on Sundays

To some Sunday is a day to rest and take intermittent naps but to others, it means to charge themselves and prepare for the weekdays. Sundays should be taken seriously so you get more energy and a good start.

FIR registered against Kangna Ranaut

Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut, also renowned for making irrational comments, is again in hot waters.

The superstar along with her brother Akshat, her sister Rangoli Chandel and a man identified as Kamal Kumar Jain are accused of allegedly announcing a films name without the author’s permission.

an FIR has been registered against Kangma and others at the Khar police station in Mumbai, by author Ashish Kaul.

Ashish has blamed them for allegedly disclosing a film based on his book without his approval.

As per the FIR, Kaul has exclusive copyrights over the storyline of the warrior princess Didda.

This is the subject of both his book titled Dida, the Warrior Queen of Kashmir and Ranaut’s professed film.

The police disclosed that Kaul reached the Queen star in September 2020 through an email with passages of his book and was disgusted when the Kangna declared openly a project based on Didda without his consent.

“The description of Didda as identified by Kangana Ranaut to promote her film is identical to what is set out in my book,” Kaul notified Indian media. After this exchange, Kaul sent Bollywood actress a legal notice.

She allegedly reacted to the claim that her film is not based on the author’s book.

Kaul furthermore pursued legal aid and reached the Bandra magistrate, requesting the registration of an FIR on his behalf against a Bollywood actress under section 156 (3) of the Indian Code of Criminal Procedures.

“Based on a court order [the police] has registered an FIR under sections 406, 415, 418, 120 (b) and 34 [of the Indian Code of Criminal Procedures] read with sections 51, 63, and 63 A of the [Indian] Copyright Act of 1957 against the four accused,” indicated Khar police senior police inspector.

The author has observed suspicions not only regarding the immoral nature of copyright violation but the sudden financial damage he may come face to face with if the film is allowed to be produced.

Kaul added that Ranaut had announced the film, he had been in discussions with many high-profile producers and Bollywood big-wigs about taking his book to the silver screen.

Meanwhile, the scandalous star’s legal lawyer, advocate Rizwan Siddique, commented that he was unable to get into the facts of the matter at this time.

He said, “I shall obtain a copy of the entire proceedings from the court and then I shall give a detailed statement. At this juncture, I cannot comment without perusing the complaint in detail.”

It should be noted that it was not the first time she she got herself into trouble. Previously the Bollywood actress received backlash from fans on social media such as Twitter on the issue of farmers protest in India.

She supported Indian government anti farmer law and also oppose Rihanna for raising her voice against Indian government.

After the infamous statement people sprayed her with lots of Criticism for supporting Modi let government anti farmers law.

K-Electric to increase tariff, NEPRA allows

ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has authorized K-Electric to raise the electricity tariff to Rs1.97 per unit for a period of three quarters.

Currently, the government is implementing a strategy of uniform tariffs for all electricity delivery firms. The same policy applies to K-Electric as well.

With a strategy of standardized market tariffs around the world, these differences will not affect customers and will be included in the government’s tariff differential subsidies. However, Nepra permitted K-Electric to reduce the power tariff by Rs0.02 per unit by one-fourth.

Nepra has fixed the quarterly tariff difference for the period from April 2019 to March 2020 for the period from July 2019 to June 2020.

The regulator approved a tariff rise of Rs0.78 per unit for the period from April to June 2019, Rs1.97 per unit for the period from July to September 2019, and Rs0.61 per unit for the period from January to March 2020.

Nevertheless, it agreed to cut the power price for the quarter of October to December 2019 by Rs0.02 per unit.

Nepra, in a notice, stated that since the federal government had a uniform tariff policy throughout the country, as well as for K-Electric customers, the effect of the previously mentioned quarterly changes will be adjusted in the tariff differential subsidy for K-Electric. They could also have little effect on customers.

The decisions are consistent with the process set out in the K-Electric Multi-Year Tariff, whereby improvements in fuel rates, generation and power purchasing mix are passed together with some annual modifications.

It is necessary to remember that K-Electric has already borne these expenses and charged the costs to fuel supplies and external electricity purchases.

Pursuant to the notice of the existing multi-year tariff, K-Electric filed its quarterly request for an adjustment to the power purchase price (PPP), an indexation of O&M prices, an adjustment to transmission and distribution losses, etc. for the quarters ended June 2019 and September 2019, along with supporting documentation.

However, K-Electric also demanded write-offs in the sum of Rs4, 051 million (gross) for FY2018-19. The net sum reported by K-Electric after accounting for the recovery made through the write-off portion of the 2017 Multi-Year Tariff, i.e. Rs2, 994 million, was Rs1, 056 million.

Amreli Steels, as an intervener, argued that Nepra should at best approve and assess only certain fuel price changes and quarterly adjustments to the power distribution companies that had been filed with the authority as per the timeline.

The Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) highlighted the problems of the former multi-year tariff, i.e. an increase in tariffs by Rs0.15 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), a loss of approximately 4,500 workers and a non-addition of 1,000 megawatts of electricity production.

It was mentioned that K-profit Electric’s for FY19 rose to Rs 17.3 billion compared to Rs 12.3 billion for FY18, but it was shocking that the firm made zero profit to be repaid.

It requested Nepra to determine the exact amount owed by K-Electric and to withhold any clearance until it had been charged to the end-users.

According to the K-Electric spokesperson, Nepra’s new determination on K-fuel Electric’s cost adjustment and tariff difference statements amount to an extra Rs80 billion in subsidies.

“This number is for 12 calendar months, and while it has been calculated by Nepra, it has not yet been informed by the Government of Pakistan.”

The source stated that the invoice, which is liable to K-Electric, is in addition to more than Rs130 billion in previous tariff differential charges which have been notified and have been pending for many years.
