Pakistan’s IT Industry, PSEB sign MoU with PSX

Karachi: Pakistan’s IT Industry, Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX). The MOU was signed at Pakistan Stock Exchange. Mr. Osman Nasir, Managing Director, Pakistan Software Export Board and Mr. Mr. Farrukh H. Khan, Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director, Pakistan Stock Exchange signed the MOU. Senior Officials from the Federal Ministry of IT & T, Pakistan Software Export Board, Security & Exchange Commission of Pakistan, Pakistan Stock Exchange and IT Industry representatives were present at the occasion.

Osman Nasir, Managing Director PSEB said that PSEB would work with Pakistan Stock Exchange to conduct seminars, workshops and events to create awareness of the benefits of listing for IT/ITeS companies and work with PSX authorized financial advisors, consultants and lead managers to assist the selected IT/ITeS companies for listing. He said that PSEB is aiming to have 40 technology companies registered on Pakistan Stock Exchange and would extend significant financial and technical assistance to the tech companies to get listed on Pakistan Stock Exchange.

Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, Secretary IT said that one of the main factors impeding the growth of Pakistan’s IT sector is access to capital. Pakistani Tech companies that get listed on Pakistan Stock Exchange would be able to raise funds by issuing shares which can subsequently be used for further business expansion. By listing on the stock exchange, a company gains instant credibility and stature with the prospective clients and suppliers. This is a significant advantage particularly for Pakistani tech companies as it makes it easier to solicit overseas customers due to increased credibility that comes from being listed on Pakistan Stock Exchange. Listing on stock exchange also improves corporate governance and companies can maintain more autonomy and control through ability to rapidly raise low-cost capital compared to banks, venture capitalists or private investors.

Amin Ul Haque, Minister for Information Technology & Telecommunication in his comments stated that the MOU is a giant leap forward for development of Pakistan’s IT Industry. This is the first ever MOU signed between PSEB and Pakistan Stock Exchange. The goal is to increase the number of listed technology companies on PSX Main Board & GEM Board which would in turn help to strengthen financial ecosystem for IT sector growth and contribute to efforts for building a strong brand image of Pakistan’s IT industry in the international markets. Due credit goes to Security and Exchange Commission of Pakistan for reducing corporate governance rules from 21 to 3 and for making it easier for technology firms to register on PSX.

According to Pakistan Stock Exchange Managing Director, Farrukh Khan, “PSX’s Growth Enterprise Market (GEM) Board facilitates small and medium sized enterprises, greenfield projects and tech startups to get listed on the Stock Exchange and raise capital. The listing regulations for the GEM Board have been made flexible vis a vis the Main Board while listing costs are significantly lower. Furthermore, there is an expanded list of Advisors to choose from, which adds to the convenience of issuers”. Mr. Khan further stated, “The GEM Board of PSX provides an ideal opportunity for small to medium sized growth enterprises such as IT firms and tech start-ups to raise capital and expand their business horizon. These companies must capitalise on this opportunity and raise low cost capital through the Exchange, which is crucial for their expansion and outreach. At the same time, listing on the Exchange will attract attention to these companies, locally as well as internationally. Importantly, listing on the GEM and Main Board also provides a potential exit to investors. Such an exit avenue will make it easier for tech companies to raise venture capital”.

Small to medium enterprises make up a big chunk of business enterprises in Pakistan. SMEs constitute nearly 90% of all enterprises in Pakistan. They contribute about 40% to the annual GDP and employ about 80% of the non-agricultural labor force. The growth enterprises play a major role in a country’s economy. They provide a large number of jobs and contribute significantly to the GDP of a country.

WHO lashes out rich countries for monopolizing Covid vaccines

The World Health Organisation, on Monday, criticized rich countries not only to have Covid vaccines but to do so, hindering the path for developing nations to get them.

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that certain rich countries’ direct arrangements with suppliers meant that the previously negotiated distribution of vaccines to developing countries through the Covax scheme had been diminished.

PM Imran Khan instructs to expedite corona-vaccine supply

The director of the UN Health Agency said that funding was available to purchase doses for some of the poorest nations, after fresh donations from the United States, the European Union and Germany—but it was useless if there was nothing to buy.

Tedros said, “We can only have vaccines delivered to the countries who are members of Covax if the high-income countries cooperate in respecting the deals that Covax did.”

Corona Updates: 34 more people died in one day in Pakistan

“Some high-income countries are actually approaching manufacturers to secure more vaccines, which is affecting the deals with Covax — and even the amount that was allocated for Covax was reduced because of this,” added he.

Tedros asked the wealthy states to check if their own agreements with pharmaceutical firms are weakening Covax, which poorer countries are dependent on as they wait for their first doses.

SECP assumes that the planned time of three working days is sufficient to move the cash dividend from the financial account of the corporation to the bank accounts of their respective owners.

Section 242 of the Companies Act 2017 allows all public companies to pay cash dividends only by electronic means directly to the shareholder’s designated bank accounts.

Since the transmission of cash dividends by IBANs is secure, cost-effective and productive, all shareholders are expected to provide their IBANs to their respective companies for payment of cash dividends.

Paradigm Shift is necessary in tax structure, President FPCCI

KARACHI: Mian Nasser Hyatt Magoo, President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry at a summit conducted with Chairman FBR alongside high ranking customs and IRS officials, said that it is high time for a paradigm shift in the tax system to facilitate investment, help development and growth in the economy instead of the current income democracy that remains the priority of FBR.

He explained that the legislative and legal role of FPCCI, by the Act of Parliament, to serve the private sector of commerce, manufacturing and services, was diluted by FBR by oppressed contact with the apex body.

He added that FBR’s response to the concerns of representatives of the trade bodies referred to FBR was barely any. He also claimed that the revenue-generating agents are being overlooked by FBR, which is counter to its own responsibility.

President FPCCI said that instead of negotiating with institutional representatives of FPCCI, FBR is attending Para shooters and The FBR does not award industry practicing tax lawyers and tax advisors to represent the FPCCI in the numerous committees of the FBR.

The apex body and its work on financial and other matters, if taken seriously will be possible to find a compromise to the budget that performs business in equilibrium instead of between existing tensions and inconsistencies.

The Chairman of the FBR, Mr Muhammad Javed Ghani, indicated that he had taken notice of the concerns posed by the representatives of the trade bodies and said that the FBR Support Desk would be formed in the FPCCI, but that it would require coordination with the different wings of the FBR in order to open the Desk for a fruitful outcome.

He also said that the deceased human experiences was our strategy that we are aiming for, and that we have already increased the latest refunds in less than the previous year, which is almost 70 to 80% more than in the previous period.

Moreover, she divulged that when her father was in college, he was famous for gang wars in his college which gave him a reputation of a gunda (gangster)”.

The actress continued to reminisce that she “fought with him at 15 and left home,” and “became first Baaghi Rajput woman at 15.”

In the following tweet, she said, “This chillar (worthless) industry thinks success got to my head and they can fix me, I was always Baaghi its”.

The Ranaut added that “when I refused to go to school he tried to slap me I held his hand and famously told him “ if you slap me I will slap you back”.
