Israeli Military Expands Ground Invasion in Central Gaza

The Israeli military has announced an expansion of its ground invasion into the outskirts of Deir el-Balah in central Gaza, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict. The military released footage showing soldiers and armored vehicles advancing deeper into the area, while also reporting over 100 airstrikes in the past two weeks.

According to the Israeli army, its forces destroyed a 700-meter tunnel and uncovered a cache of weapons, including anti-tank shells. The expansion into Deir el-Balah has raised concerns about the growing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, as evacuation orders continue to displace thousands of residents.

Telegram Founder Pavel Durov Arrested in France Over Moderation Issues

Pavel Durov, the Russian-French billionaire and founder of the Telegram messaging app, was arrested on Saturday evening at Bourget airport near Paris. According to reports from French television channels TF1 and BFM, Durov was traveling aboard his private jet when he was detained due to an arrest warrant issued in France as part of a preliminary police investigation.

The investigation reportedly focuses on the lack of moderators on Telegram, which authorities believe has allowed criminal activity to flourish on the platform. Durov is expected to face a possible indictment on Sunday, as French media outlets have indicated.

Neither Telegram nor the French Interior Ministry and police have commented on the situation. Russian officials, including representatives from the foreign ministry, are seeking to clarify the circumstances of Durov’s arrest. The ministry has called on Western non-governmental organizations to demand his release.

Reactions to Durov’s arrest have been swift, with several Russian politicians criticizing France’s actions as authoritarian. Elon Musk, the owner of X (formerly Twitter), and Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who recently ended his U.S. presidential campaign, also commented on the situation, emphasizing the importance of protecting free speech.

As this story unfolds, it remains to be seen how French authorities will proceed with the case against Durov, who has been a staunch advocate for digital privacy and freedom.

PM Shehbaz Sharif Moves to Dissolve PWD, Emphasizes Paperless Governance

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reviewed the legal and procedural aspects of dissolving the Public Works Department (PWD) on Sunday, focusing on the re-employment of diligent employees and suggesting age relaxation for those with short service tenures. During a high-level meeting, PM Sharif underscored that employees with serious corruption charges would not receive financial packages.

The meeting, attended by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Economic Affairs Minister Ahad Khan Cheema, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Housing and Works Minister Riaz Hussain Pirzada, and senior officials, addressed the planned shutdown of the PWD due to its poor performance and corruption over the years. The Prime Minister directed that a comprehensive plan for transferring ongoing projects from the PWD to provincial authorities be submitted promptly.

PM Sharif also emphasized that all proposals related to the PWD’s closure should be presented to the cabinet for approval. The decision to shut down the department aligns with the government’s broader strategy to eliminate loss-making entities and cut expenditures.

A senior PWD official noted that the department’s dissolution would require a two-thirds majority in Parliament due to its “constitutional cover,” and employees have indicated plans to challenge the decision in court. The PWD manages government properties and infrastructure projects across Pakistan, making its dissolution a significant move.

In a separate directive, PM Sharif instructed the Ministry of Information Technology and other relevant departments to implement a paperless system for federal government offices. He set a deadline for all office files to be processed exclusively through the e-office system within a month and stated he would only review files submitted through this system from then on. The Prime Minister stressed the importance of digitization for improving governance and transparency.

The PM’s Office staff has already undergone e-office training, and PM Sharif has begun using the system himself. A report on the progress of the e-office implementation is expected within the next two weeks.

Govt Considers Prepaid Electricity Meters to Cut Costs

Federal Minister for Power, Awais Leghari, announced on Monday that the ruling coalition government is exploring the installation of prepaid electricity meters, similar to those used for mobile phones. The initiative aims to combat electricity theft and improve payment reliability.

In a press conference in Multan, Leghari emphasized the government’s dedication to eradicating electricity theft and enhancing convenience for consumers. He disclosed that discussions are ongoing with power distribution companies to facilitate the distribution of a Rs45 billion relief package to all consumers.

The proposed prepaid meter system would allow consumers to pay for electricity in advance, potentially reducing theft and preventing default payments. This system is part of broader reforms the government is pursuing to address issues in the power sector.

Leghari also mentioned that the government has shared its energy reform plans and vision with the National Energy Administration of China. A key aspect of these discussions involves re-profiling Pakistan’s debt, estimated between $8.5 billion and $9 billion. This move is expected to lower electricity prices and boost demand.

Additionally, Leghari noted that the finance minister and other officials are engaging with Chinese bankers to explore potential investments in Pakistan’s power sector. One significant reform under consideration is the conversion of electricity generation plants from imported coal to locally sourced coal. This change aims to significantly reduce the cost of electricity, with the target of lowering the cost per unit from approximately 24 rupees to around 8 rupees.

Among the plants being considered for conversion are four coal-fired plants, including the government-owned Jamshoro plant. The shift to local coal is expected to cut costs and improve the overall efficiency of power generation in the country.

Aamir Khan Discusses Son Junaid Khan and his Bollywood Debut

Aamir Khan recently spoke candidly about his son, Junaid Khan, and his Bollywood debut in Yash Raj Films’ Maharaj. In a conversation with Rhea Chakraborty on her podcast, Aamir opened up about his initial doubts regarding Junaid’s acting abilities and his decision not to produce Junaid’s films.

Aamir admitted that he did not initially believe Junaid would be a successful actor. “Junaid has shown a lot of promise,” Aamir acknowledged, noting that he had seen Junaid’s early efforts in acting and theatre. However, he expressed concerns about Junaid being compared to him, saying, “The tag of being Aamir Khan’s son can’t be removed, and he will have to carry this burden. I wasn’t sure that Junaid would be a good actor. He was very shy, and I was also very shy. I had the same doubts for Junaid that people once had about me.”

Aamir revealed that he made it clear to Junaid before his debut that he would not produce his films if Junaid did not prove his talent. “As a son, you might feel, ‘Arrey, aap mere liye film produce kar do,’ but I told him that if he wasn’t good, I wouldn’t be able to produce a film for him. I can’t fool my audience,” Aamir stated. Despite his doubts, Aamir noted that Junaid understood and accepted his stance, and appreciated his father’s honesty.

Aamir also shared that Junaid faced numerous rejections before landing his role in Maharaj. “Nobody could identify him as my son during auditions since he is much taller than me,” Aamir explained. He highlighted that Junaid’s first successful audition was for Maharaj, and praised his son for achieving this milestone on his own.

The actor emphasized that Junaid’s journey to securing his debut role was a result of his own efforts, free from any undue influence or favoritism. “He has done everything on his own,” Aamir concluded, expressing pride in Junaid’s perseverance and achievements.

40 Killed in Balochistan Attack, 21 Terrorists Killed by Security Forces

At least 40 people were killed in Balochistan on Monday following a series of shootings and grenade attacks across the province. The violence prompted a strong response from security forces, resulting in the elimination of 21 terrorists and several others being injured.

The day began with a devastating incident in Musakhail district, where 23 people were killed early Monday morning. Armed men intercepted trucks and buses, forcibly removing passengers before shooting them after verifying their identities. This brutal act of violence underscores the escalating security situation in Balochistan.

The attackers, who exploited the cover of darkness, set fire to approximately ten vehicles before fleeing the scene. Police and Levies forces quickly arrived at the site and began transferring the victims’ bodies to a local hospital.

Balochistan government spokesperson Shahid Rind detailed that the militants launched coordinated attacks at multiple locations, encountering resistance from security forces. Despite this, the terrorists managed to carry out the gruesome ambush in Musakhel, targeting passengers after identifying them.

In response to this atrocity, Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti convened an urgent meeting to discuss the deteriorating law and order situation in the province. He emphasized the need for a comprehensive approach to combat the ongoing security challenges and urged all political factions and security agencies to unite against the rising tide of terrorism.

This attack is the latest in a series of escalating violence in Balochistan, a region that has been grappling with security challenges for years. The resurgence of terrorism in Pakistan, particularly after the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan in 2021, has seen a marked increase in incidents, especially in provinces bordering Afghanistan, including Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Recent data from the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) highlights the grim reality of the situation. The second quarter of this year alone witnessed 380 fatalities and 220 injuries linked to violence, with 240 incidents of terrorism and counter-terrorism operations recorded. In response, the federal government approved Operation Azm-e-Istehkam, a revitalized counter-terrorism campaign aimed at eradicating terrorism from the country.

Reacting to the massacre, President Asif Ali Zardari expressed profound grief and condemned the attack, labeling the perpetrators as “enemies of the nation.” He stressed that those responsible for these brutal killings must be brought to justice.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also expressed deep sorrow and anger over the killings, directing local authorities to extend full support to the bereaved families and ensure immediate medical aid for the injured. He vowed that the terrorists responsible for this heinous act would be punished and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to continue the fight against terrorism until its complete eradication.

Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti strongly condemned the attack, pledging that the government would relentlessly pursue the terrorists and their facilitators to ensure they face justice. The Musakhel incident serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing security challenges in Balochistan and the urgent need for a unified, decisive response to counter the rising threat of terrorism in the region.

Jared Isaacman Leads Daring Commercial Spacewalk on SpaceX’s Polaris Dawn Mission

Jared Isaacman, the billionaire adventurer and philanthropist who made headlines by chartering the first commercial flight to orbit aboard SpaceX’s Crew Dragon in 2021, is set to embark on an even more ambitious mission. On Tuesday, Isaacman and three crewmates will launch into space for the Polaris Dawn mission, featuring the first-ever commercial spacewalks and a record-breaking journey to 870 miles above Earth—an altitude not reached since the Apollo moon missions over half a century ago.

Isaacman, along with SpaceX crew trainer Sarah Gillis, will don innovative SpaceX-designed spacesuits and exit the spacecraft for about 15 minutes each. Connected by 12-foot-long umbilicals and safety tethers, the two will test the new suits’ capabilities just outside the ship’s forward hatch. Meanwhile, their crewmates—former F-16 pilot Scott “Kidd” Poteet and SpaceX Crew Dragon mission director Anna Menon—will remain inside, monitoring the mission from the cabin.

This high-stakes demonstration is aimed at paving the way for a new generation of cost-effective and flexible spacesuits, crucial for future missions to the Moon, Mars, and beyond. “My desire in human spaceflight is to move the needle,” Isaacman told CBS News. He emphasized that the risks involved are justified by the potential to advance technology and open up space exploration for more people.

In addition to the spacewalks, the Crew Dragon will reach a record altitude for an Earth-orbit mission at 870 miles—over 600 miles higher than the International Space Station. The mission will also test a high-tech laser communications link to Earth using SpaceX’s Starlink satellites and conduct 36 bio-medical experiments in collaboration with 31 institutions.

These experiments include testing “smart” contact lenses to monitor internal eye pressure in zero gravity, exploring space motion sickness, and investigating the potential of space radiation for X-ray imaging. This research is critical for understanding the long-term effects of space travel on the human body, especially for future deep-space missions.

Isaacman’s previous SpaceX flight, Inspiration4, raised over $250 million for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The Polaris Dawn mission continues this philanthropic tradition, with companies like Frito-Lay contributing donations, including $500,000 from a special Doritos campaign.

The Polaris Dawn mission marks the first of three planned by Isaacman in partnership with SpaceX founder Elon Musk. After this mission, the second will involve another Crew Dragon flight, and the third will be the inaugural piloted flight of SpaceX’s massive Super Heavy-Starship rocket, currently under development.

Although the costs of these missions remain undisclosed, Isaacman’s commitment to advancing space exploration and supporting St. Jude reflects his broader vision. “Life is short, and you only have so much time to make as much of an impact as you possibly can,” he said.

The Polaris Dawn mission is set to launch from Kennedy Space Center at 3:38 a.m. EDT on Tuesday. Following a 12-minute ascent to space, the Crew Dragon will be released into an initial orbit before making its record-setting climb to 870 miles. Over the course of the five-day mission, the crew will conduct research, rehearse spacewalk procedures, and eventually perform the first commercial spacewalks.

SpaceX plans to live stream the spacewalk, offering viewers a front-row seat to this historic event. As Isaacman and Gillis test their suits, their crewmates will ensure the mission proceeds smoothly, monitoring their safety and the spacecraft’s systems.

As Isaacman puts it, “It’s time to go out, it’s time to explore, it’s time to do these big things and move forward.” The Polaris Dawn mission represents a significant step in humanity’s ongoing journey to explore the final frontier.

Karachi to Experience Scattered Rain Amidst Hot and Humid Conditions

Karachi: As the monsoon season continues to sweep across various regions of Pakistan, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast scattered drizzle and rain for Karachi this evening or night. The port city is expected to experience a mix of weather conditions, with the temperature remaining hot and humid over the next 24 hours.

According to the PMD, Karachi’s weather will stay warm, with maximum temperatures expected to hover between 34°C to 36°C. The city is also grappling with high humidity levels at around 78%, and the winds are blowing at a speed of 14 kilometers per hour. The minimum temperature recorded in Karachi earlier today was 28.5°C.

While the day is expected to be hot and sticky, relief might come in the form of rain later in the day. The Met Office has warned that these weather changes are part of a larger monsoon system impacting the region. Karachi, along with other parts of Sindh, is on alert for potential showers ranging from light drizzles to heavy downpours from Tuesday through Thursday.

The PMD representative Owais Haider mentioned that suburban areas of Karachi are likely to see rainfall starting today. However, he also issued a cautionary note regarding the potential for urban flooding, as this upcoming rain spell could be the most intense the city has experienced this monsoon season.

Monsoon Alert Issued

The PMD has also issued a monsoon alert, indicating that the weather system is being driven by a deep depression currently situated over east Rajasthan in India. This depression has been moving west-southwestward and is expected to reach the regions of Kutch, Tharparkar, and the adjacent Arabian Sea by the morning of August 29. As a result, strong monsoon currents are beginning to penetrate into southeast Sindh, including Karachi.

The Met Office has stated that from August 27 to 31, Karachi Division could experience wind-thunderstorms along with rain, ranging from scattered heavy showers to isolated very heavy falls. The weather pattern is expected to bring occasional gaps in the rainfall, providing brief periods of dry weather.

In addition to Karachi, other districts in Sindh are also expected to be affected by this monsoon system. Areas including Tharparkar, Badin, Thatta, Sujawal, Hyderabad, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allah Yar, Mitiari, Umerkot, Mirpur Khas, Sanghar, Jamshoro, Dadu, Kambar Shahdadkot, Larkana, Naushahro Feroze, and Shaheed Benazirabad are likely to experience showers until August 31. The rain is anticipated to occur intermittently, with occasional dry spells in between.

Moreover, the districts of Ghotki, Sukkur, Khairpur, Kashmore, Jacobabad, and Shikarpur are also on alert for rainfall from today until August 30. The PMD has advised residents of these areas to stay vigilant as the weather system unfolds, given the possibility of heavy rainfall and subsequent flooding in some regions.

As Karachi braces for potential rain, city officials and emergency services are likely to be on high alert to manage any challenges that might arise due to the weather. Citizens are also encouraged to take precautions, particularly in low-lying areas prone to water accumulation and flooding. The monsoon season continues to pose significant challenges for Karachi and other parts of Sindh, making preparedness crucial in mitigating the impact of these weather events.

Sindh Govt Suspends Cellular Services on Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA)

To maintain law and order during the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), the Sindh government announced the suspension of cellular services in major cities, including Karachi, Hyderabad, Larkana, Sukkur, and Khairpur, on Monday. This measure is part of strict security protocols to ensure public safety during the religious observance.

The Sindh Home Minister, Ziaul Hasan Lanjar, confirmed that the suspension of mobile phone services would be in effect throughout the day in these key urban centers. He emphasized that this step is critical in preventing any potential security threats that could arise during the Chehlum processions, which see large gatherings of people.

“Given the current law and order situation, it is imperative that we take all necessary precautions. The suspension of cellular services, along with other security measures, will help in ensuring that the Chehlum processions proceed without any untoward incidents,” said Minister Lanjar.

In addition to the suspension of mobile services, the provincial government has also imposed a ban on pillion riding across Sindh, including Karachi. This measure, often enforced during significant religious events, aims to curb the mobility of individuals who might engage in disruptive activities. The ban is particularly stringent in areas known for large processions and gatherings.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) released a statement aligning with the government’s directives. The PTA confirmed that both voice and data services would remain suspended in the specified cities throughout Monday, following the orders of the interior ministry.

To bolster the security apparatus, the home minister revealed that law enforcement agencies would be on high alert, with additional security forces deployed across the province. “Security forces will remain on red alert throughout the day. We are also conducting aerial monitoring of the processions to ensure a swift response to any emergency situations,” Minister Lanjar added.

The provincial government had earlier announced a public holiday for all public and private schools across Sindh on account of the Chehlum, further underscoring the importance of the day in the religious calendar and the need for heightened security.

In a related development, Rawalpindi’s local administration also declared a public holiday in the city for Monday to observe the Chehlum. The Rawalpindi police have implemented a comprehensive security plan for the city, particularly focusing on the seven processions scheduled to emerge from different Imambargahs. SSP Operations Hafiz Kamran Asghar stated that over 4,400 security personnel would be deployed throughout the city, with an additional 215 officers responsible for managing vehicular traffic.

These precautionary measures reflect the government’s commitment to safeguarding the public during one of the most significant events in the Islamic calendar. The suspension of cellular services, along with other security protocols, is expected to mitigate risks and ensure that the observances are conducted peacefully across the province.

As the Chehlum processions unfold, the government and security agencies remain vigilant, prepared to respond to any challenges that may arise in maintaining the peace and sanctity of the occasion.

Ahsan Shah, Key Suspect in Balaj Tipu Murder Case, Killed in Alleged Police Encounter

Ahsan Shah, the main suspect in the high-profile Balaj Tipu murder case, was killed during an alleged police encounter, according to a statement from the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) police. The incident reportedly occurred while Shah was being transported by a CIA team to Shadbagh for the recovery of evidence related to the case. The police claim that the team was ambushed by Shah’s accomplices, who launched an attack, leading to a deadly exchange of gunfire.

The CIA police stated that Shah was fatally injured by the crossfire, allegedly from his own accomplices, who aimed to rescue him. Despite the police team’s efforts to secure the area, they narrowly escaped unharmed while Shah was critically wounded. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival. The circumstances surrounding the encounter have raised questions, with some viewing it as a legitimate police operation, while others suspect possible foul play, given the controversial nature of the case.

The roots of this incident trace back to February 18, when Amir Balaj Tipu, the son of the infamous Tipu Truckanwala, was gunned down at a wedding ceremony near Thokar Niaz Baig. The wedding, held for the son of former Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Akbar Iqbal Bala, turned into a scene of chaos when a shooting erupted, claiming the lives of two individuals and leaving three others critically injured. Among the deceased was Balaj Tipu, a figure well-known in local circles due to his father’s notoriety.

The second victim of the shooting remains unidentified but is believed to be the assailant who targeted Balaj Tipu. According to eyewitness accounts, the shooter opened fire on Balaj but was quickly neutralized by Balaj’s bodyguard. The sudden outbreak of violence at a public event sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the ongoing tensions and rivalries that continue to plague certain parts of the region.

The injured individuals, whose identities have not been disclosed, were immediately transported to Jinnah Hospital in Lahore, where they received emergency medical treatment. Despite the efforts of the medical team, Balaj Tipu succumbed to his injuries, leaving behind a legacy intertwined with the criminal underworld due to his father’s reputation.

Following the attack, the police launched an intensive investigation, leading to the arrest of Ahsan Shah as the primary suspect in the murder of Balaj Tipu. The case has attracted significant attention due to its connection with the Truckanwala family, known for their deep ties to organized crime. Shah’s arrest was seen as a critical development in unraveling the motives and masterminds behind the murder.

However, Shah’s death in the alleged police encounter has now added a layer of complexity to the case. While the police maintain that the encounter was an unfortunate consequence of an ambush by Shah’s accomplices, critics argue that such incidents often raise suspicions of extrajudicial actions, especially in high-stakes cases involving prominent figures.

As investigations continue, the death of Ahsan Shah leaves many questions unanswered, particularly regarding the true nature of the events leading to the encounter. The case, already fraught with intrigue and controversy, remains a focal point of public and media scrutiny, as authorities work to piece together the full story behind the tragic chain of events.

Superyacht: Italian Prosecutors to Launch Manslaughter Investigation

Italian authorities are preparing to investigate a manslaughter charge following the sinking of a superyacht, which claimed the lives of seven individuals. The investigation, led by prosecutors, is standard procedure for complex maritime accidents. Further details will be disclosed at a news conference in Sicily.

Among the victims was 18-year-old Hannah Lynch, who was the last passenger to be recovered from the Bayesian superyacht on Friday. Hannah was on board with her father, Mike Lynch, a prominent British tech entrepreneur, who also died in the tragedy. Her mother, Angela Bacares, survived the incident. Esme Lynch, Hannah’s sister, described her as “endlessly caring, passionately mad, unintentionally hilarious.” The Lynch family has expressed deep grief, with a spokesperson noting they are “devastated… in shock… and being comforted and supported by family and friends.”

Incident Details

The Bayesian yacht had anchored off the coast of Sicily on Sunday, about 500 meters from Porticello port. The vessel sank at approximately 5 am local time on Monday during a violent storm. While fifteen passengers and crew members were rescued after reaching a life raft, the bodies of the remaining seven were recovered over several days, a process complicated by challenging underwater conditions. Vincenzo Zagarola from the Italian coastguard likened the sunken yacht to an “18-storey building full of water” and noted that raising the vessel is not currently planned but may be considered later.

Investigation and Expert Opinions

Prosecutors, led by Ambrogio Cartosio, are set to provide an update on the investigation in Termini Imerese on Saturday morning. The speed at which the yacht sank has raised questions among experts. Dr. Jean-Baptiste Souppez, a specialist in mechanical and biomedical engineering, expressed confusion over the rapid sinking, noting that such vessels are built to stringent safety standards.

Giovanni Costantino, CEO of The Italian Sea Group, which manufactures similar yachts, defended their safety, suggesting that human error could be a factor, though no official cause has been confirmed. Maritime investigator James Wilkes cautioned against speculative blame on the crew, emphasizing that such conclusions are premature without thorough investigation.

As the investigation unfolds, the focus remains on determining the causes behind the tragedy and ensuring justice for the victims.

Bushra Ansari Calls Natasha Danish”Prado Wali Pagal”

Karachi: Renowned Pakistani actress Bushra Ansari has criticized Natasha Danish, the main accused in the recent Karsaz road accident. In the video, Ansari refers to Natasha as a “Prado wali pagal” (a crazy woman with a Prado) and expresses her frustration over the likelihood of Natasha evading serious consequences due to her wealthy background.

Ansari’s comments reflect a growing public sentiment about the perceived inequality in Pakistan’s legal system, where influential individuals often escape accountability. In the video, Ansari points out that the rich often treat the poor like “insects,” a sentiment she says is evident in how such cases are handled.

The actress also touched on the tragic nature of the incident, suggesting that the accident was a result of Natasha’s reckless behavior and lack of concern for the lives of those less fortunate.

Ansari also emphasized the crucial role that family upbringing and values play in shaping an individual’s character. She argued that proper training and moral guidance from one’s family are essential in preventing such tragic events. Ansari implied that had Natasha received better guidance, the accident might have been avoided.

Background

New CCTV Footage Exposes Natasha Danish’s Reckless Driving Before Karsaz Accident

Karachi: The tragic road accident on Karsaz Road that claimed the lives of a father and daughter continues to dominate headlines as new CCTV footage has surfaced, shedding light on the moments leading up to the fatal crash. The video, captured by a surveillance camera, reveals that the prime suspect, Natasha Danish Iqbal, was involved in multiple collisions before the deadly incident that occurred on August 19th.

The newly released video shows Natasha Danish driving an SUV in a dangerously erratic manner. The footage captures Natasha’s vehicle in a visibly damaged state prior to the fatal crash, suggesting that her reckless behavior began well before the tragic accident.

In the clip, Natasha’s SUV is seen first hitting a white car, damaging its rear door. Moments later, the vehicle collides with two motorcyclists, throwing them to the ground. Despite these collisions, Natasha continued driving, eventually causing the deadly crash that took the lives of Imran Arif and his daughter Amna. The footage highlights the severity of Natasha’s driving, which ultimately led to the tragic loss of life and injuries to four others.

The Fatal Incident

On August 19th, Natasha’s out-of-control vehicle struck the motorcycle of Imran Arif and his young daughter, Amna, on Karsaz Road. Both father and daughter were killed on the spot, while four others sustained injuries in the accident. Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that Natasha appeared to be intoxicated at the time of the crash, raising concerns about her mental state while driving.

Following the accident, a crowd of angry citizens surrounded Natasha, preventing her from fleeing the scene. The police arrived shortly after and took her into custody. She was subsequently taken to Jinnah Hospital for a medical examination to determine if she was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the incident. A case was registered against her later that day, marking the beginning of an intense legal battle.

Implications of the New Footage

The emergence of this new CCTV footage has intensified the scrutiny surrounding Natasha Danish’s actions on the day of the accident. The video not only confirms her involvement in multiple collisions but also raises serious questions about her driving behavior and state of mind before the fatal crash.

The police are now under increased pressure to thoroughly investigate the circumstances leading up to the accident. The new footage may serve as critical evidence in the ongoing legal proceedings, potentially influencing the charges and penalties that Natasha could face.

As the investigation continues, the public’s outrage over the incident remains palpable. Many are drawing comparisons to other high-profile cases where individuals with influence have been accused of reckless behavior resulting in loss of life. The scrutiny surrounding Natasha Danish’s case echoes the public’s demand for accountability and justice in cases involving fatal accidents.

Ongoing Investigation

The Karachi police are now focusing on piecing together the sequence of events leading up to the crash. The new footage, combined with eyewitness accounts and forensic evidence, is expected to play a pivotal role in the investigation. The police have also indicated that they are waiting for the results of Natasha’s medical tests, which will determine whether she was intoxicated at the time of the accident.

As the case unfolds, the public continues to watch closely, with many hoping that justice will be served for the victims of this tragic incident. The Karachi traffic authorities have also come under scrutiny, with calls for stricter enforcement of traffic laws and more stringent penalties for reckless driving.

Who Is Natasha Danish?

Natasha Iqbal, the woman who killed a man and his daughter and injured five others in the tragic Karsaz road accident, was identified as the head of nine companies. She serves as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of two companies, Metro Capital Limited and SDN Limited. Additionally, she holds the position of director in seven other companies, including Swift Storage and Services Limited, Gul Ahmad Bio Film Limited, Gul Ahmad CBNC Company, Metro Power Company Limited, Iqbal Metro Solar Power Limited, Metro Property Network Limited, and Metro Storage and Services Limited.

Natasha’s significant corporate responsibilities has added a new dimension to the ongoing investigation, raising questions about her influence and the potential implications for the legal proceedings following the fatal incident.

Conflicting Reports on Natasha Danish’s Mental Condition Raise Questions

The ongoing investigation into Natasha Danish’s involvement in the fatal Karsaz road accident has taken a complicated turn, with conflicting reports emerging about her mental condition. Initially, both the police and Natasha’s lawyer issued statements suggesting that her mental state was unstable, possibly as a defense strategy in the wake of the tragic incident. However, these claims have been challenged by medical professionals.

Dr. Chunni Lal, the head of the psychiatric ward at Jinnah Hospital, provided a report that directly contradicts the statements made by Natasha’s family and legal team. According to Dr. Lal, Natasha’s mental condition is stable, and the risk of suicide is low. This evaluation led to her discharge from the hospital, casting serious doubts on the claims of her alleged mental illness.

Despite the family’s insistence on her mental instability, no prior medical records have been presented to substantiate these claims. Dr. Lal acknowledged that Natasha’s condition appeared poor when she was first brought to the hospital on August 19, but he confirmed that she is now deemed mentally fit.

UK Driving license and Crucial Role in the Companies

These contradictory reports have raised important questions about Natasha’s capacity to manage her life and responsibilities if she were indeed suffering from mental health issues. One of the most significant questions is how Natasha managed to obtain a driving license in the UK if her mental condition was truly compromised. The process of acquiring a driving license in the UK involves strict medical evaluations, especially regarding mental health, to ensure that individuals are fit to drive. Natasha’s possession of a UK driving license suggests that she passed these evaluations, further casting doubt on her family’s claims.

Additionally, Natasha holds crucial roles in several companies, including serving as the CEO of Metro Capital Limited and SDN Limited, and as a director in seven other companies affiliated with the Gul Ahmed group. These positions demand a high level of responsibility, decision-making, and mental acuity. It is difficult to reconcile these demanding professional roles with the narrative of her being mentally unfit.

The discrepancies between the medical report and the claims made by Natasha’s family and lawyer have added another layer of complexity to the ongoing investigation. As the legal proceedings continue, these conflicting reports will likely play a crucial role in determining the course of the case, particularly in assessing Natasha’s culpability and the validity of any mental health defense.

Karachi Braces for Heavy Rainfall: Met Office

Karachi: Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather advisory predicting rainfall in Karachi and other districts of Sindh from August 25 to 29. The forecast is influenced by a low-pressure system currently forming over West Bengal, which is expected to channel monsoon currents into the region.

According to the latest weather report, monsoon currents are likely to enter Karachi and other districts of Sindh in the coming days. This weather system is expected to bring heavy rainfall across the region, particularly in Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, and other nearby areas.

Residents of Karachi should prepare for a shift in weather, as the city is likely to experience hot and cloudy conditions for the next three days. The temperature in Karachi is expected to soar, potentially reaching a maximum of 36 degrees Celsius. Despite the looming rainfall, the weather will remain warm until the onset of showers.

Rainfall Impact on Hub Dam

The recent monsoon rains have already made a significant impact on the water levels in various dams, including the Hub Dam, which supplies water to Karachi and its surrounding areas. According to sources from the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA), the water level at Hub Dam has risen considerably due to heavy rainfall in the hilly areas of Balochistan’s Khuzdar district and the dam’s catchment areas.

As of now, the water level at Hub Dam has reached over 335.5 feet, just shy of its full capacity of 339 feet. This increase in water levels is a positive development for the water supply in Karachi, as the dam is a crucial source of drinking water for the city.

Preparations and Precautions

The Sindh government and local authorities have been advised to remain vigilant during this period of heavy rainfall. The PMD has warned of possible urban flooding in low-lying areas of Karachi, especially if the rains are intense and persistent.

Citizens are advised to take necessary precautions, such as avoiding unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall, securing outdoor items that could be displaced by strong winds, and staying informed about weather updates from official sources.

The Karachi administration has also been urged to clear stormwater drains and ensure that drainage systems are functioning efficiently to prevent waterlogging and minimize the risk of flooding.

Broader Implications

The anticipated rainfall comes as a relief to some areas that have been facing water shortages, but it also poses challenges in terms of managing the potential for urban flooding and infrastructure damage. The monsoon season is critical for replenishing water reservoirs, but it also requires careful management to mitigate risks to life and property.

The PMD has emphasized the need for continuous monitoring of the weather system as it progresses, and updates will be provided as the situation evolves. Authorities across Sindh are expected to be on high alert, ready to respond to any emergencies that may arise due to the anticipated heavy rainfall.

As Karachi and the rest of Sindh brace for this monsoon spell, residents are encouraged to stay safe and prepared, ensuring that they follow the guidelines issued by the authorities to navigate the challenges of the upcoming weather conditions.

NEPRA Approves K-Electric FCA Rates for May and June 2024

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has given the green light to K-Electric’s monthly Fuel Charge Adjustment (FCA) requests for May and June 2024. The FCA rates will be set at 2.59 rupees per unit for May and 3.168 rupees per unit for June, though these charges will be applied separately over the two months rather than in a single bill.

Consumers will see the FCA for May reflected in their October 2024 bills, while June’s FCA rates will appear in the November 2024 bills. For September 2024, the FCA is set at 99 paisas per unit, increasing to 2 rupees 59 paisas per unit in October. This translates to a final bill increase of 1.59 rupees in October. In November, the FCA will rise to 3 rupees 16 paisas per unit, marking a final increase of 58 paisas compared to October.

These adjustments, determined by fluctuations in global fuel prices, are in line with NEPRA and Government of Pakistan regulations. Any decreases in global fuel prices is also be passed on to consumers. NEPRA approves these rates following thorough scrutiny.

Fatah Official Claims Israel’s Killing of Khalil al-Maqdah in Lebanon

Israel’s recent assassination of Khalil al-Maqdah in Lebanon has escalated tensions, with senior Fatah official Tawfiq Tirawy accusing Israel of attempting to provoke a full-scale regional war. Tirawy made these remarks in an interview with AFP news agency, where he condemned the killing of al-Maqdah, a prominent figure linked to the Fatah movement and an armed group in the occupied West Bank. Tirawy’s accusation underscores the growing fears of widespread conflict in the region, which has already been deeply affected by the ongoing violence in Gaza.

The Israeli military confirmed that it carried out the airstrike near Sidon, Lebanon, which killed Khalil al-Maqdah. In its statement, the military alleged that al-Maqdah, along with his brother Mounir al-Muqdah, was involved in smuggling weapons into the occupied West Bank. The Israeli authorities claimed that the brothers were acting under the direction of Hezbollah and Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), both of which have been long-time adversaries of Israel. The military further stated its intent to continue targeting Lebanon-based individuals who they believe are orchestrating terrorist activities in the occupied West Bank.

This airstrike is part of a broader pattern of Israeli military actions in Lebanon that have resulted in significant casualties. During the ongoing conflict in Gaza, Israeli operations in Lebanon have reportedly killed over 600 people, including more than 130 civilians. The increasing number of civilian casualties has heightened fears that the situation could spiral into a larger, more destructive war, as tensions between Israel and various regional actors continue to rise.

In a separate but related development, Israeli banks have recently ceased accepting shekel cash transfers from Palestinian banks in the occupied West Bank. This decision, according to Palestinian officials, could severely impact the ability of Palestinians to pay for essential goods and services. The Palestinian Monetary Authority has warned that without the ability to transfer funds, banks in Palestine will soon be unable to finance trade operations between Palestinian and Israeli merchants. This financial blockade threatens to further destabilize the already fragile economic situation in the occupied territories.

Israeli Banks Block Shekel Transfers from Palestinian Banks

The refusal of Israeli banks to process these transactions follows a series of measures taken by Israel to exert financial pressure on Palestinians. Israel’s Finance Minister, Bezalel Smotrich, who leads a pro-settler party, has previously used his position to enforce financial restrictions on Palestinians. In June, Smotrich signed an order to withhold tens of millions of tax funds owed to the Palestinian Authority, a move that has been widely criticized as exacerbating the economic difficulties faced by Palestinians under occupation.

Ship comes under attack

Meanwhile, a ship operating under a Greek flag was attacked off the coast of Yemen’s port city of Hodeidah. The vessel, identified as “Sounion,” was reportedly struck by multiple unidentified projectiles and is now adrift and on fire. The UK’s Maritime Trade Operations reported that the ship was hit four times, leaving it unable to move. This incident adds to the growing instability in the region, as maritime security near Yemen continues to deteriorate amidst ongoing conflicts.

As these events unfold, the region remains on edge, with concerns that these incidents could lead to an even broader conflict involving multiple countries. The situation is rapidly evolving, and further developments are anticipated as tensions continue to escalate.

World’s Oldest Living Person Dies at 117

Maria Branyas, who held the title of the world’s oldest living person, passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 117 in a Spanish nursing home. Born on March 4, 1907, in San Francisco, California, Branyas lived through two world wars, the 1918 Spanish flu pandemic, the Spanish Civil War, and the COVID-19 pandemic, witnessing countless moments of historical significance during her long life.

Branyas and her family moved to Catalonia, Spain, when she was seven years old, where she spent the rest of her life. Her remarkable longevity and the experiences she lived through made her a symbol of resilience and wisdom. In January 2023, the Guinness World Records recognized her as the oldest living person, placing her among the ranks of the 12 oldest verified people in recorded history. The record for the oldest person ever remains with Jeanne Calment of France, who lived to be 122 years and 164 days old.

On Tuesday, Branyas’ passing was announced by both a spokesperson for the nursing home and her official social media account, which was managed by her daughter. “Maria Branyas has left us,” the announcement read. “She has died as she wanted: in her sleep, peacefully and without pain.” Her social media presence, particularly on X (formerly known as Twitter), offered glimpses into her thoughts on aging and life. Her bio on the platform read, “I am old, very old, but I’m not an idiot,” a statement that reflected her sharp wit and sense of humor.

Just days before her passing, Branyas had hinted at the nearing end of her life. In a poignant social media post, she expressed, “I feel weak. The time is coming. Don’t cry, I don’t like tears….You know me, wherever I go, I will be happy.” Her words conveyed a sense of acceptance and peace with the inevitable, showing her unwavering strength and positivity until the very end.

Branyas attributed her long life to several key factors: order, tranquillity, strong connections with family and friends, contact with nature, emotional stability, and a conscious effort to avoid worry, regret, and toxic people. These guiding principles, she believed, allowed her to live a life filled with positivity and contentment.

In her final days, Branyas continued to reflect on the passage of time and the conclusion of her journey. “One day, I don’t know when, but it’s very close, this long journey will be over,” she shared. “Death will find me worn out from having lived so long, but I want it to find me smiling, free and satisfied.”

Maria Branyas’ life was a testament to the human spirit’s endurance and the wisdom that comes with age. She leaves behind a legacy of resilience, positivity, and a life well-lived. Her passing marks the end of an era, but her story will continue to inspire those who hear it. Continue reading “World’s Oldest Living Person Dies at 117”
