President Raisi’s Address Temporarily Hacked Amid Iran Protests

Hackers disrupted President Ebrahim Raisi during his speech. On the 44th anniversary of the Iranian revolution he addressed the public through state-run television.

The Iranian group Edalat-e Ali carry out the attack. The group also displayed images with the slogan “Death to Khamenei”.

As the regime focused on showing its support through forced participation in parades and gatherings, the hack was seen as a significant disruption to the government’s efforts to maintain control.

The hacker group also called for people to withdraw from government banks and participate in anti-government protests on February 16th.

This hack is just one example of the growing dissent among Iranians and their use of technology to voice their opposition to the government.

The situation remains tense as protests continue and the regime struggles to maintain control in the face of growing unrest.

The cabinet has also approved a revised circular debt management plan that will be circulated.

The policy-level talks between the IMF and the government have already been concluded, but an agreement couldn’t be reached due to differences in fiscal measures.

As per the new policy, the power prices will be raised by Rs7.91 per unit in four quarterly adjustments starting from February to November 2023.

The new policy aims to recover Rs250 billion from electricity consumers by June 2023, with a surcharge of Rs3.39 per unit being levied.

Military leaders admit failed regime change: Imran Khan

Imran Khan, former prime minister and chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has stated that the new military leadership has come to the realization that the experiment of regime change has failed.

During an interview with Voice of America, he noted that the elected government must have both responsibility and authority, as a country’s system fails if this balance is not maintained.

Khan emphasized that the elected government, which is mandated through the people’s vote, must also have the authority to match its responsibility.

He added that if the authority lies with the army chief and the responsibility lies with the prime minister, the system will not work effectively.

Regarding his relationship with the military as the prime minister, Khan stated that the policies of the military in Pakistan are dependent on the personality of the army chief.

He noted that the positive side of his relationship with the former army chief, General Qamar Javed Bajwa, was the organized strength of the Pakistan Army that helped his government.

This relationship, he noted, was evident in Pakistan’s successful response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, he also stated that a problem arose when General Bajwa favored some of the biggest crooks in the country and wanted his government to work with the corrupt leaders, granting them immunity from their corruption cases.

Khan also claimed that General Bajwa had close ties with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and that they conspired, leading to the regime change.

He added that the country is facing the worst political and economic crisis in its history, and its economy has gone into a tailspin.

He expressed his views on his demand for general elections, noting that it is no longer possible to have free and fair elections as the credibility of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has been destroyed.

He cited the recent local government election in Sindh, which was rejected by all political parties

Jadeja breaches ICC Code of Conduct and found guilty

Ravindra Jadeja, an Indian cricketer, has been fined 25% of his match fee and received one demerit point for violating Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the first Test match against Australia in Nagpur.

This breach was a result of his behavior that was found to be contrary to the spirit of the game and in violation of Article 2.20 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel.

The incident took place during the 46th over of Australia’s first innings on February 9, when Jadeja was seen applying a soothing cream to his index finger without the permission of the on-field umpires.

The Indian team management explained that the finger spinner was using the cream to treat a swelling on his index finger, however, the Match Referee was satisfied that the cream was used purely for medical purposes and did not change the condition of the ball, which would have been a violation of clause 41.3 of the ICC playing conditions for Unfair Play – The Match Ball – Changing its Condition.

Jadeja admitted to the offense and accepted the punishment proposed by Andy Pycroft of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees.

On-field umpires Nitin Menon and Richard Illingworth, third umpire Michael Gough, and fourth umpire KN Ananthapadmanabhan levied the charge against him.

Level 1 breaches carry a range of punishments, including an official reprimand and a fine of up to 50% of the player’s match fee, along with one or two demerit points. This was Jadeja’s first violation in a 24-month period.

Croatia’s First Robotic Restaurant Gets Attention

BOTS & POTS Sci-Food, a bistro in Zagreb, Croatia, claims to be the only restaurant in the world where robots prepare ready-to-eat one-pot meals entirely on their own, with no human involvement beyond loading the fresh ingredients.

The robotic chef, known as GammaChef, has been “taught” how to cook various meals digitally by the head chef and can prepare approximately 70 different one-pot meals.

The robotic cookers add oil and seasoning based on digital recipes created by a human chef.

The restaurant took seven years to bring the idea to reality, with its owners investing over a million euros in the process.

The robotic chef not only speeds up the cooking process, but it also helps save money, especially at a time when there are staff shortages.

‘One-Pot Chicken Korma” Tasty UK sparked funny reactions on Twitter

According to co-owner Hrvoje Bujas, a single person can run a restaurant with five robots, and the ultimate goal is to create a space where customers can order, receive, and pay for food without any human contact.

Customers have praised the quality of the food produced by the robot chef. One customer, Lovro Petar Andrisek, said that the food was top-quality and that his plate was completely clean after eating.

The robotic chef can produce four meals in just 15 minutes, with each of the five cookers able to produce nearly 100 meals in an hour.

Bujas stated that if one of the robots was for sale, it would cost 10,000 euros. The restaurant is considering expanding their business model through franchising.

Overall, BOTS&POTS Sci-Food is a unique and innovative restaurant that combines technology and food, making it possible for robots to cook and prepare meals from fresh ingredients.

The restaurant’s success could lead to the widespread adoption of similar models in the future.

US Shoots Down Car-Sized Unidentified Object Flying Over Alaska

On Friday, a US F-22 fighter jet shot down an unidentified flying object that was flying high over Alaska.

The object was about the size of a small car and was taken down by a Sidewinder missile, according to the Pentagon’s Chief Spokesperson, Brigadier General Patrick Ryder.

The object was first detected by ground radar on Thursday and was flying at a height of around 40,000 feet in a northeasterly direction, which posed a risk to civilian air traffic.

American pilots who flew alongside the object determined that it was unmanned and could not maneuver like an aircraft, but officials declined to say if it was a weather balloon or another type of balloon.

President Joe Biden ordered the shootdown, and the White House declined to provide a detailed description of the object, only saying that it was much smaller than the recent Chinese balloon that was shot down by the US military.

On February 4, another US F-22 fighter jet shot down what the US government called a Chinese surveillance balloon that had flown across the US and portions of Canada.

The Chinese government claimed it was a civilian research vessel. Some lawmakers criticized President Biden for not shooting down the Chinese balloon earlier, but the US military had recommended waiting until it was over the ocean for fear of falling debris causing injuries.

The shootdown of the latest object was determined necessary as it posed a reasonable threat to air traffic. The FAA closed some airspace in northern Alaska to support the Department of Defense activities.

After the object was shot down, some lawmakers praised the President’s swift action. However, during a Senate hearing on Thursday, lawmakers criticized the Pentagon for not shooting down the Chinese balloon earlier, highlighting ongoing concerns in Congress about gaps in the US’ ability to secure its airspace.

Johns Hopkins Plans To Shuts Down COVID Tracker

As the COVID-19 pandemic begins to subside, a key source of information about the virus will be shutting down, as announced by NPR.

The Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center, which was established to provide vital information during the pandemic, plans to shut down its operations on March 10, according to officials.

The center’s launch was initiated by Lauren Gardner, an engineering professor, in March 2020 when there was a lack of information available about the virus and its impact.

The center became crucial in guiding various decisions related to the pandemic, including school closures, mask mandates, business shutdowns, and border sealing.

The center’s website was heavily relied upon by world leaders, businesses, and the general public to stay updated on the latest COVID metrics.

Despite the invaluable service provided by the center, its closure comes as the threat of the pandemic recedes, and states are reporting data less frequently.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has also stepped up its data reporting, leading to the university’s decision to close the center.

Despite this, the creators of the center, Blauer and Gardner, hope that the CDC and the public health system will continue to invest in data collection to prepare the nation better in the future, while they are prepared to step back in if necessary.

In conclusion, the Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center played a crucial role in providing information during the COVID-19 pandemic, and its closure marks the changing state of the pandemic.

The center’s success was due to the efforts of the team, primarily women, and its impact can be seen in the staggering amount of traffic the website received, with more than 2.5 billion views.

Despite its closure, its creators hope that the CDC and the public health system will continue to invest in data collection to prepare the nation for future pandemics.

Pakistani-American Artist ‘Creates History’ in New York Court

A Pakistani-American artist has made history by adding a female statue to the plinths on top of a New York courthouse.

The building, located in Manhattan’s Flatiron District, has had ten plinths since its opening in the late 19th century and until now, all of the statues depicted men.

Shahzia Sikander, 53, created the eight-foot-tall female statue, which is covered in gold, to raise awareness about the lack of representation of women in public statues in the United States.

The statue replaces the former statue of the Byzantine emperor Justinian and depicts a feminine figure emerging from a pink lotus flower, with her hair styled in spiralling horns.

Sikander titled the work “NOW” to acknowledge recent events that have been seen as a setback for women’s rights.

The Supreme Court’s recent overturning of the federal right to abortion, as well as the death of liberal icon and Supreme Court justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, has led to a rightward shift in the court. The statue also features Ginsburg’s signature lace collar.

The artist, who was born in Lahore and has lived in the United States for the past 30 years, believes that representation matters and that placing the statue on the roof of a courthouse allows for a unique conversation about women’s representation in patriarchal spaces like law and art.

Sikander believes that gender bias still creates barriers for women, despite years of struggles for legal, socio-economic and political equality.

The statue is a temporary addition to the courthouse and will be part of Sikander’s exhibition “Havah… to breathe, air, life,” which also features an 18-foot sculpture called “Witness” in Madison Square Park.

Both works will be on display until June. Sikander hopes that the statue will bring attention to the discrimination that women continue to face, including unequal access to health and education, economic opportunities, gender-based violence, race and class discrimination.

Govt to Impose Rs 170 Billion In Taxes to Revive Loan Program

Pakistan’s Finance Minister, Ishaq Dar, announced that the country’s recent talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have ended “positively” and that the government will need to impose Rs170 billion in taxes through a mini-budget to revive the loan program.

Dar stated that the agreement is the same one signed by former Prime Minister Imran Khan with the IMF in 2019-2020 and that the government is committed to reaching a “sovereign commitment.” The 10-day talks covered various sectors, including power, gas, fiscal, and monetary, and Dar reported that the Rs170 billion in taxes will have to be recovered within four months of the current fiscal year.

The minister also said that reforms are necessary for the country and that the Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, has given assurance to the IMF that the government will implement these reforms.

Dar mentioned that the economy is currently struggling, ranked 47th globally, and that reforms are needed to fix the economic devastation caused by mismanagement.

He stated that the main focus of the energy sector reforms is to control the flow of circular debt, and that the circular debt in the gas sector will be brought to zero while untargeted subsidies will be reduced.

The finance minister also spoke about the power sector, stating that despite spending Rs3,000 billion on electricity generation, only Rs1,800 billion is being recovered.

In terms of the depleting forex reserves, Dar reassured that they will be boosted and managed by the State Bank of Pakistan, with the help of friendly countries.

He also announced an increase in the budget of the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) by Rs40 billion to Rs400 billion to ease the burden of inflation on vulnerable segments of society.

Dar blamed the previous government for the credibility gap with the IMF and stated that the IMF does not trust Pakistan due to a lack of reform implementation and reversals during a no-confidence motion.

However, the government has refused to impose a sales tax on petrol, and the IMF agreed to this, with general sales taxes being added to the Rs170 billion.

Dar added that the Memorandum of Economic and Financial Policies (MEFP) draft has been received by the government and that a virtual meeting with the IMF will be held on Monday.

Maryam bemoans lack of action against Imran

Maryam Nawaz, senior vice president of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), voiced anger over the institutions’ inaction against PTI leader Imran Khan, claiming “no one can touch him” even though he is the target of numerous legal cases.

Maryam said she and her father, PML-N supremo, and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, appeared before courts and the joint investigation team (JIT) numerous times in the Panama Papers case, according to a statement she made to the media on Monday in Multan.

“Why no action is being done against Imran Khan is being questioned by everyone, right? Even though he is the subject of numerous ongoing legal proceedings, including Toshakhana, foreign funding, and others, she said, “No one can touch this person.

She also charged Asif Saeed Khosa and Saqib Nisar, two former chief judges of the Supreme Court, for victimizing PML-N politicians.

“Khosa Sahib and Saqib Nisar victimized people in all they did. It’s time to stop using a double standard.

The ruling party leader claimed that former PM Imran sold watches and other presents in the market when referring to the Toshakhana (gift depository) case against him.

She further charged the former premier with money laundering. But even so, why was Imran allowed bail [by the court] simply because he is a politician?

In response to Imran’s diatribe against the establishment, Maryam remarked that he had no issues with the establishment while the former army chief General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa, was in charge.

“Nawaz Sharif was not a prime minister appointed by [former spy head] General (retd) Faiz Hameed; he was the prime minister of the people.”

Speaking about growing food costs, the PML-N leader asserted that despite the nation’s spiraling inflation, its citizens’ spirits are high.

Maryam said that the inflation was caused by the IMF agreement that the PTI-led government had reached.

“The IMF accord has put us in a bind. Even if we wanted to, we could not provide assistance right now, but we will lower inflation Day and night; Shahbaz Sharif is devoted to this cause

Turkey-Syria Earthquake Kills Hundreds, More Deaths Feared

More than 300 people died in Turkey and Syria when a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck early Monday morning, in one of the region’s most catastrophic quakes in at least a century.

Hundreds of people were hurt, and the death toll was expected to grow as rescue workers and locals frantically searched for survivors beneath the rubble of collapsed buildings on both sides of the border.

The quake struck at 04:17 a.m. local time (0117 GMT) at a depth of roughly 17.9 kilometres (11 miles), according to the US Geological Survey, and was followed by a 6.7-magnitude aftershock 15 minutes later. The quake struck Pazarck, an hour north of Gaziantep, an important industrial hub in southern Turkey, according to Turkey’s emergency management ministry, the AFAD. The epicentre of the second tremor was 80 kilometres (50 miles) south-west of Nurda.

Images on television showed stunned citizens in Turkey standing in the snow in their pyjamas, watching rescuers rummage through the debris of destroyed homes. Buildings were demolished when many people were still sleeping.

On Monday morning, the number of verified casualties increased swiftly as rescue workers tried to discover survivors.

Turkey’s AFAD reported at least 76 deaths and hundreds of injuries in seven southern provinces near the border with northern Syria. The Syrian health ministry reported at least 245 deaths and hundreds of injuries in the provinces of Aleppo, Latakia, Hama, and Tartus.

The death toll was likely to rise significantly as scores of apartment buildings were destroyed throughout major cities during the nocturnal calamity.

Tremors might be felt as far out as Lebanon, Greece, Israel, and Cyprus.

According to Turkey’s Anadolu news agency, the governor of the southern province of Anlurfa reported 15 deaths and 30 injuries. At least 23 people were killed, 420 were injured, and 140 structures were demolished in Malatya, a town 225 kilometres (140 miles) north-east of Gaziantep, according to the local governor.

The Turkish Red Cross chief said the organisation was mobilising supplies for the region and urged people to flee damaged homes.

Residents in the town of Pazarck expressed concern for those trapped beneath collapsed buildings. The severe earthquake shocks, according to Nihat Altunda, awoke his family.

“Our house appears to be solid from the exterior, but there are fissures on the interior. Buildings are being demolished all around me, and houses are on fire. There are some buildings that are crumbling. Just 200 metres from where I am now, a building fell. “Thank God, our friends are okay, but we’ve heard that there are people who can’t leave their homes and others who we can’t reach,” he said.

“We’re waiting for the sun to rise so we can see the magnitude of the earthquake. Everyone is outdoors, terrified.”

“Pazarcik is in ruins,” claimed Hüseyin Sat, a local. “The building where I live is not that tall, and was built in conformity with earthquake laws, therefore it didn’t collapse. However, there are still fissures in the walls. “During the earthquake, a neighbour of mine hurt his back when jumping from the balcony and is currently in the hospital.”

Civilians, according to Sat, were feverishly trying to assist dig their neighbours out from under collapsed buildings.

“Two of my pals are currently under the rubble, and we are attempting to reach them,” he said.

Turkey is located in one of the world’s most active earthquake zones, with territory spanning across the Anatolian fault line in the country’s north, causing massive and deadly shocks.

In 1999, a 7.4 magnitude earthquake shook Izmit and the adjacent Kocaeli region near Istanbul, the worst to hit Turkey in decades.

In the midst of enormous devastation, the earthquake killed approximately 17,000 people, including at least 1,000 in Istanbul.

Experts have long warned that a massive earthquake might damage Istanbul, which has allowed for enormous construction without safety protections.

In January 2020, a magnitude-6.8 earthquake struck Elaz, killing about 40 people. In October of that year, a magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck the Aegean Sea, killing 114 people and injuring over 1,000.

Naci Gorur, an earthquake expert from Turkey’s Academy of Sciences, encouraged local officials to inspect the region’s dams for fractures quickly in order to avoid possibly catastrophic floods.
