Karachi to Hit by Water Shortage After Electricity Breakdown

On Monday morning, a power outage hit major cities in Pakistani including Karachi and Lahore for more than 27 hours because of frequency variation in the national grid system.

However, Energy Minister suggests that most of the power has been restored and will be restored quickly due to the efforts of the government and technical employees.

But a new problem awaits the citizens of Karachi because, after the power outage, there is a chance of water shortage in the city of lights.

Due to the electricity shutdown, the main source of water supply in Karachi, the Dhabeji pumping station was shut down completely which dried up all the water.

The Karachi Water and Sewage Board (KSWB) suggests that water pipelines have completely dried up because due to prolonged power suspension in installation.

KWSB Chief Executive Officer Syed Salahuddin Ahmed revealed that power outage caused the pipelines to burst which stopped the water supply. However, teams are working efficiently to restore the pumping station. He also mentioned that K-Electric restored electricity to Dhabeji pumping station but for only 45 minutes.

He further mentioned that now electricity has been restores, water supply will take almost 3 days to be fully functional again.

He said that the pipeline was damaged some four kilometres from the Dhabeji Pumping Station and a vast area was submerged, which was obstructing the repair works.

Cricketer Shadab Khan Announces Marriage

Power Restoration Underway in Darkened Pakistan

A power outage hit Pakistan out of nowhere on Monday morning around 7 am plunging the whole country into darkness, especially across Karachi, Lahore, and Baluchistan areas.

This electricity shutdown affected more than 220 million residents of Pakistan who struggled with everyday activities. The electricity shutdown triggered a shortage of water, and due to winter, gas is also not available to residents of Pakistan.

After almost 27 hours, most of the power restoration process has been done as per the government. Energy Minister, Khurram Dastagir also said that power has been restored in many areas and is underway in other areas.

He revealed that power outage happened because of the frequency variation in the national grid. He said, “Today at 7:34am, there was unusual voltage and frequency fluctuation in the North-South transmission corridor because of which the national grid’s system frequency was affected and a widespread breakdown was caused.”

Khurram mentioned that power has been restored in almost all the areas. Some of the areas witnessed a cat and mouse game with electricity and it came and went several times.

 

Sharjeel Memon Ungergoes Angioplasty

……….Doctors hospitalized Sharjeel Inam Memon, Sindh’s Information Minister and senior PPP leader, on Saturday after he complained of chest pain. They quickly admitted him to the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) and performed crucial medical procedures to stabilize his condition.

The medical team conducted an angiography upon Memon’s arrival, which indicated the need for immediate intervention. Following this, they performed an angioplasty and placed two stents to restore proper blood flow to his heart. The procedure succeeded, and doctors confirmed that Memon’s condition is now stable.

Family members and hospital staff reported that Memon is recovering well after the procedure. Doctors recommended a 24-hour observation period to monitor his recovery. They plan to discharge him after this period, allowing him to return home.

Memon, a long-serving member of the Sindh Assembly since 2008, plays a significant role in the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). Voters re-elected him from PS-63 (Hyderabad-II) during the 2018 general elections, reaffirming his importance in Sindh’s political landscape.

Memon’s successful treatment

Supporters and political colleagues expressed concern and sent prayers for Memon’s swift recovery. His family thanked the NICVD medical team and well-wishers for their care and support. Doctors emphasized that quick action and medical intervention were critical to ensuring Memon’s successful treatment and recovery.

UK PM Forgets to Wear Seat Belt – Gets Fined by Police

Rishi Sunak, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom was fined because he did not wear a seat belt in the backseat of a moving car.

The prime minister was recently on a road trip across the north of England during which he went to Lancashire where he also filmed the video. He filmed the video regarding the UK government’s new round of leveling up spending.

The Lancashire Police stopped Rishi Sunak’s car and charged him with a fixed penalty. Premier also accepted his mistake and apologized. He also agreed to pay the fine.

However, this is not the first time that Rishi Sunak has been fined by the police. Last April when he was not PM of the UK, he was fined by the police because he broke the Covid-lockdown rules. He attended the birthday party of then Prime Minister.

Muneeb Butt Reports Feroze Khan to Cybercrime

Pakistani actor Muneeb Butt has also filed a complaint against actor Feroze Khan for leaking private information about his family members.

The Pakistani drama and film industry is issuing legal notices to each other at the moment because of the havoc created by the ‘Habs’ actor, Feroze Khan.

A few days back, Feroze Khan issued a legal notice against the actors for spreading false information and baseless allegations. Along with the picture of the notice, he also posted the private numbers and home addresses of celebrities involved in the notice on his social media platform. After some time, he deleted the information but the damage was done as it escalated quickly.

Then, actors including Sarwat Gilani, Yasir Hussain, Aiman Khan, Minal Khan, Fahad Mirza, and Mira Sethi, etc, all took to their social media accounts to announce that they have received hundreds of harrassing calls from unknown numbers due to post of Feroze Khan. They all decided to issue legal notice against Feroze Khan.

Now, popular actor, Muneeb Butt also decided to report Feroze Khan to cybercrime. He suggested that, “Initially, I thought it was a stupid mistake and I waited for 24 hours but no apology or excuse from you proved that it was a deliberate move. I thought you were better than this seriously.”

He further added, “The complaint registration and verification process have been completed. FIA’s cyber circle has initiated the inquiry. The process has started and you will have to taste your own medicine now. Wait for the call,”

Bollywood megastar, Amitabh Bachchan recently met two of the most notable and talented footballers of all time, Lionel Messi and Christiano Ronaldo.

Government to Launch Laptop Scheme Again

During his premiership, former prime minister, Nawaz Sharif introduced the laptop scheme in higher education according to which students will get access to good laptops.

After Nawaz Sharif, former prime minister, Imran Khan discontinued this scheme to save resources and spend according to budget.

Now, Prime minister Shahbaz Sharif has decided to launch this scheme again for University students with a budget of Rs. 10 million.

Ahsan Iqbal, minister of planning and development addressed a ceremony in which he mentioned the launch of laptop scheme. He also suggested that the scheme will provide 100,000 laptops to University Students to empower them to work digitally.

Ahsan Iqbal noted that National Bank of Pakistan (NBA) has also been asked to develop laptop leasing products so that every university student has access to an affordable laptop.
The planning minister further said that given the size of young population, Pakistan can turn Information Technology into one of its competitive advantages.

Jam Ikramullah Dharejo Orders Preparation of 1 billion for the Korangi Industrial Area

KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Industries and Cooperatives Jam Ikramullah Dharejo has issued orders to the Secretary Industries to prepare a summary of 1 billion rupees for the development works of the Korangi Industrial Area.

Speaking at the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI), the provincial minister said that 5 billion rupees were approved by the federal government and 2.5 billion rupees from the provincial government for the construction of roads in the site area.

Funding will be provided for Korangi Industrial Area in the same manner. The issue of Mehran Town will be raised in the cabinet.

On this occasion, Faraz-ur-Rehman, Senior Vice President Nighat Awan, Vice President Muslim Mohammadi, Former Presidents Zahid Saeed, Masood Naqi, Danish Khan, Sheikh Umar Rehan, Gulzar Firoz, Saleem-uz-Zaman, Johar Qandahari, Farrukh Mazhar, Special Advisor to the CM Sindh Faraz Abid Lakhani, Secretary Industries Abdul Rasheed Solangi, MD of Sindh Small Industries Shahid Ali Shah and members and senior officers of KATI were present. The provincial minister said that the request will be made to the chief minister of Sindh for the availability of ambulance and winching machines for KATI. Sindh government wants to promote industrialization but unfortunately, gas is not being given to Sindh as per the constitutional right. Chairman People’s Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had directed to participate in the protest along with industrialists.

am Ikram Dharijo said that provision of more funds to KITE Limited and EDF will be done with mutual consultation. There is a need to establish more industrial zones in the city. The Sindh government has recently set up a 2,000-acre industrial zone on the Northern Bypass and is keen to set up more zones across the city.

Adviser to Sindh Chief Minister Faraz Abid Lakhani said that the Sindh government is determined to promote industrialization, ease of doing business and end dependence on imports.

He said that the current situation is providing an opportunity to produce the raw materials locally instead of importing them. Lakhani said we want to form a coordination committee with representatives of all industrial areas including KATI, whose aim is to remove obstacles in business through mutual consultation, suggestions of KATI are also required in this regard.

Earlier, KATI President Faraz-ur-Rehman said that currently, the industry is facing the toughest conditions in history, and the economic crisis has taken a serious turn. Cargo is stranded at the port, destroying industries and leaving large numbers of people unemployed.

President KATI 0said that for the non-issuance of LC and not clearing the goods at the port to save foreign exchange, fines of millions of dollars have been imposed in terms of demurrage and detention, which have become more than the value of the goods.

Instead of saving foreign exchange, this move will result in paying double the price as a penalty.
Faraz-ur-Rehman said that unfortunately, no money is spent on the Korangi Industrial Area, which accounts for 51 percent of the country’s exports, under the Export Development Fund (EDF), while Pakistan’s top exporters belong to the Korangi Industrial Area.

Faraz-ur-Rehman said that Mehran Town should be given the status of an industry because it is impossible to run the economy without a cottage industry.

President KATI said that ambulances for the fire station and dedicated winching machines for KATI are needed to restore the sewage system. He said that due to the increase in electricity and gas prices, the cost of production has increased, and the industries will not be able to bear the burden of the 50 rupees per liter levy on petrol. President KATI said that KITE Limited received a fund of 1 billion rupees from the government and spent it on Korangi Industrial Area, which greatly improved the infrastructure of the area. More funds are required for development works. He said that we seek cooperation from Sindh Government to raise industrialists’ issues of unfair distribution of gas before the federal government, gas is not available to Sindh according to the constitutional right.

Former Presidents Masood Naqi, Zahid Saeed and Sheikh Umar Rehan also addressed the event.

 

WHO Reports Increase of Covid Cases in China

China has been battling Covid for more than two years now and still the struggle is in process. It is reported that the number of hospitalization has increased at a larger and more rapid pace in the last week.

World Health Organization (WHO) reported that hospitals in China are overflowing with Covid cases but the state media of China does not report the rate of infections and deaths.

During the previous week, WHO reported that China dealt with the highest number of Covid infections since the pandemic began. Also, WHO mentioned that they did not include 60,000 Covid deaths in the tally because it was waiting for detailed reports.

China witnessed an increase in hospitalization by 70% with more than 60,000 people infected with Covid and hospitalized.

However, WHO still believes that China is underreporting the hospitalization rate and mortality rate due to Covid, and demands more detailed data and reports on it.

 

‘One Room One Light’ Policy by IT Ministry

Pakistan has been trying to conserve energy, gas, electricity, and water and for this matter, IT Ministry has devised a plan to implement the ‘One Room, One Light’ policy.

A few weeks earlier, Defense Minister, Khwaja Asif also held a press conference to stress the importance of the conservation of energy by using solar panels, using less electricity, gas load shedding, and conserving water. He also appealed to the business owners to close down their businesses by 8 pm to save electricity. Marriage halls were decided to be closed by 10 pm.

Now according to the One room one light policy, the IT ministry suggests that everyone should use only one light wherever they are. IT minister, Ameenul Haq said that all the departments working under the IT ministry are bound to comply with the orders. He also suggested that people should save electricity and that excessive use of electricity at any level is a waste of federal reserves.

Cabinet approved this policy and demands implementation of this policy as soon as possible. However, people have mixed reactions regarding this policy.

Rakhi Sawant Arrested in Defamation Case

Bollywood celebrity, Rakhi Sawant has been in the news for a long time due to her appearance in Big Boss. marriage, and then converted to Islam.

Recently, Rakhi Sawant again hit the highlight of the news as Amboli police arrested her on a complaint filed by Bollywood actress and model, Sherlyn Chopra.

Sherlyn tweeted and announced the arrest of Rakhi Sawant. She wrote, “Amboli Police has arrested Rakhi Sawant in respect of FIR 883/2022. Yesterday, Rakhi Sawant’s ABA 1870/2022 was rejected by the Mumbai session court.”

Sherlyn filed the complaint against Rakhi in November last year because of her remarks against her. During the MeToo movement, Sherlyn spoke against producer Sajid Khan and said that actor Salman Khan is protecting him in the film industry. Rakhi Sawant accused Sherlyn Chopra of lying and spreading false information. She defended Salman Khan and Sajid Khan and said some rough things to Sherlyn.

Sherlyn then filed a complaint against her in defamation case to the police which arrested Rakhi today. Rakhi was supposed to announce and inaugurate her dance academy today with her husband, Adil Durrani but she was arrested on the spot by Amboli police.

Sarwat Gilani and Celebrities to Take Legal Action Against Feroze Khan

The Pakistani drama and film industry is going through an exchange of legal notices between celebrities, as popular actress, Sarwat Gilani threatens actor Feroze Khan to take legal action against him.

Khuda or Mohabbat actor, Feroze Khan had a rather ugly divorce in the public eye as his ex-wife, Aliza Sultan accused him of physical and emotional abuse. However, Feroze denied all her charges. But most of the Pakistani film and drama industry rallied behind Aliza Sultan to support her. Feroze Khan took to his Instagram to say that he will take legal action against people who are responsible for his defamation and he released a list that consisted of names and private numbers of celebrities that spoke against him. The names included Sarwat Gilani, Yasir Hussain, Mira Sethi, Aiman Khan, Sharmeen Obaid, Ushnah Shah, Farhan Saeed, and Muneeb Butt.

Sarwat Gilani also posted on Instagram and revealed a list of more than 100 unknown phone numbers that called and harassed her. She vows to take legal action against Feroze Khan. She also tagged other artists whose numbers were leaked.

Sarwat Gilani’s husband, Fahad Mirza also shamed Feroze Khan’s release of private information online and captioned his picture as ‘Moron Alert’.

Kuch Ankahi actress, Mira Sethi suggested that her lawyer will look into the matter and take legal action.

Yasir Hussain also spoke against Feroze Khan as he received calls and messages from unknown numbers who asked him for money. He said, “One stupid man first beat his wife and now leaked our numbers. Because of this, some kid is trying to ask me for a role, and if not that then Rs100,000. What should I do?”

Feroze Khan deleted the post a few moments after he posted it online on his Instagram account. The film and drama fraternity is furious at this illegal act and security breach.

Microsoft Decides to Fire 10,000 Employees

Lately, times have been challenging for the world economy because of high inflation rates, high-interest rates, and businesses slowing down. Many companies have laid off their employees last year because of unstable economic conditions all over the world.

Amazon, Twitter, Facebook, Tesla, etc have laid off thousands of employees and cut down their workforce.

Now one of the leading tech companies, Microsoft has announced to cut down its workforce and lay off 10,000 workers. It will affect up to 5% of its global workforce and cost the business $1.2bn in severance and reorganization costs.

Microsoft’s business bloomed during the pandemic because of high-intensity remote work and other online activities. However, after the pandemic, the company only hired 40,000 showing a decline in workforce.

Imran Khan to Hold Protest Against Government

Pakistan Tehreek e Insaaf (PTI) chairman, Imran Khan has announced his upcoming decisions. A few days ago, Imran Khan mentioned in an interview that he will give sleepless nights to Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and that he will take decisions to achieve this plan.

Now Imran Khan has announced that he will be taking his people to the streets to register their protests against the government.

Imran Khan was shot during his Azadi March in Wazirabad in which the bullet hit his leg which got injured him. Now the doctors have suggested that in a few weeks, they will remove the plaster, and Imran will be able to do anything he wants after that.

Imran Khan will manage the election campaigns of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa KPK. Imran Khan has gathered all his party officials today in Lahore headquarters to discuss the upcoming protest and march.

He will also hold meetings with other parties and organizations to discuss future plans of PTI.

PTI and PPP Lends Support to Jamat e Islami

Jamat e Islami (JI) emerged as a leading political party with 86 Union committee (UC) seats after the Peoples Party (PPP)  won 96 seats from Karachi and Hyderabad.

All the political parties are lending support to JI as they have won in Karachi and it’s their responsibility now to choose a mayor for Karachi.

Pakistan Tehreek e Insaaf (PTI) has also shown immense and ‘unconditional support’ to JI and wants JI to merge with them to support the people of Karachi. PTI says that “We want them [JI] to announce its mayor with our support for the next four years.”

PTI further suggests thatWe do not want to see PPP get Karachi completely. It is our party’s decision. It will be a blunder by JI if it enters into a deal with the PPP.”

On the other hand, PPP is also trying to woo JI to make a mayor from their party to rule Karachi. PPP’s President for the Karachi division, Saeed Ghani mentioned that PPP won the most seats in Karachi therefore it has the right to appoint its mayor and to serve the term for two years.

Also, he stated that next mayor of Karachi will be a Jiyala, and decisions will be taken by the party leadership.

However, JI has not commented on anything. But sources suggest that JI will not collaborate with PTI because PTI has only 40 seats in the parliament and did not do much for Karachi when it was in power.

Moreover, JI will hold meetings with the leaders of the PPP to discuss the name of the next Karachi mayor.

Ukrainian Interior Minister Dies in Helicopter Crash

A tragic incident took place in Ukraine as a helicopter full of state officials crashed and killed not only the passengers but civilians as well along with damage to buildings in residential areas in Brovary.

The helicopter crash killed Ukrainian Interior Minister, Denys Monastyrskyi who handled the police and security inside Ukraine. Along with him, the crash killed other ministry officials and the children.

Also, 29 people including 15 children are injured. Some of the injured people are severely hurt and were rushed to the hospital immediately.

However, state officials have not given any statement on the matter. Ukraine and Russia are at war for a year now which has resulted in thousands of deaths and intense damage to infrastructure. None of the officials from Ukraine have taken Russia’s name in this attack and Russia also did not mention any relation to this accident.

Tesla Shareholders About to Sue Elon Musk

Elon Musk is always in the news due to his aggressive decisions and tweets and this time his tweets might cost him millions of dollars.

In 2018, Elon Musk tweeted that he will take Tesla private in a $72 billion buyout. He also mentioned that he had funding secured.

However, the stakeholders argued that Elon manipulated the prices of the company due to which they lost billions of dollars. Also, if the San Francisco Jury favors the stakeholders then Elon Musk will have to pay billions of dollars in damages.

He has already paid $20m to the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) for the 7 August 2018 tweet, while Tesla had to pay another $20m.

Legal experts suggest that it will be difficult for Elon Musk to win this case because most of the stakeholders and jurors see him in a negative light.

Speaker Raja Ashraf Accepts PTI’s Resignations

National Assembly speaker, Raja Parvez Ashraf has accepted the resignations of 35 lawmakers of Pakistan Tehreek e Insaaf.

123 lawmakers of PTI filed their resignations from the lower house of parliament in the National Assembly after the ouster of former prime minister, Imran Khan in April last year. However; recently, Imran Khan announced that he will be returning to the National Assembly to discuss with the treasury benches.

The members whose resignations have been accepted include Murad Saeed, Umar Ayub, Asad Qaiser, Parvez Khattak, Imran Khattak, Shehryar Afridi, Qasim Suri, Najeeb Haroon, Aslam Khan, Aftab Jahangir, Attaullah, Aftab Hussain Siddiqui, Ali Haider Zaidi, Alamgir Khan, Saifur Rehman, Faheem Khan, Zartaj Gul, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Malik Amir Dogar, Shafqat Mehmood, Hammad Azhar, Sanaullah Mastikhel, Fawad Ahmed, Mansoor Hayat, and others.

PTI’s Chairman, Imran Khan mentioned to a team of journalists that he foresees that Pakistan will witness general elections in the next three to four months. Also, he said that he will give sleepless nights to Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif.

 

Visa Appoints New Pakistan Country Manager

Karachi, 17 January 2023 – Visa, the world leader in digital payments, has announced the appointment of Umar Khan who will lead its operations in the country in his new role as Country Manager for Pakistan.
