Sahir Hassan Denies Involvement in Mustafa Amir Murder Case

A local court has remanded Sahir Hassan, son of actor Sajid Hassan, into police custody for one day as investigations continue in the Mustafa Amir murder case. Allegations of drug dealing and police misconduct have emerged, but Sahir insists he has been falsely implicated.

Sahir Rejects Allegations

During the court proceedings, Sahir Hassan denied any role in the crime. He claimed police forcibly took him from his home and later planted drugs on him.

“I have no connection to the murder. The police falsely claim they recovered drugs from me,” he told the court.

Sahir also denied any drug transactions with Mustafa Amir or the prime suspect, Armaghan Qureshi. “I never bought or sold drugs to either of them,” he stated.

Conflicting Statements from Investigators

Despite Sahir’s denial, police presented contradictory evidence. Investigators alleged that Sahir was involved in drug dealings with both Mustafa and Armaghan. Officials claimed that on January 5, Sahir sold 2 to 2.5 grams of drugs to Armaghan.

Authorities further suggested that Mustafa and Sahir were rivals in the drug trade. During police raids, law enforcement recovered drugs worth Rs 5.5 million.

Legal Defense and Police Accusations

Sahir’s lawyer, Advocate Faraz Fahim, accused the Darakhshan police of deliberately targeting his client. He revealed that Sajid Hassan had previously filed a case against the same police station in 2022.

Sajid Hassan urged media channels to be responsible. “The case has gained attention, but misinformation must not spread,” he said.

Meanwhile, police continue their crackdown on drug networks, detaining multiple individuals linked to Mustafa Amir and Armaghan.

Background of the Mustafa Amir Case

The case involves the alleged kidnapping and murder of Mustafa Amir, a DHA resident who disappeared on January 6. The primary suspects, Armaghan Qureshi and his friend Shiraz, are accused of murdering Mustafa before burning his body and car.

Investigators say Mustafa and Armaghan had a conflict over a girl during New Year’s Eve. On January 6, Armaghan allegedly lured Mustafa to his home under false pretenses and fatally attacked him. The suspects then placed Mustafa’s body in his car’s trunk, drove to Hub, Balochistan, and set the vehicle on fire.

Ongoing Investigations and New Evidence

Authorities have seized modern weapons from Armaghan’s house. The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) is investigating the origin of these arms, while the Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) has sought help from the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to analyze data from a seized laptop.

A critical piece of evidence, a final audio recording from Mustafa, has also surfaced. In the recording, he reportedly tells a friend he is heading to Armaghan’s house and suggests his friend join later.

Investigators have uncovered Armaghan’s criminal history, linking him to extortion, kidnapping, drug dealing, and illegal weapon possession.

The case has sparked public outrage, with authorities under pressure to conduct a fair and transparent investigation. The court has ordered police to submit a progress report in the next hearing.

Philippines Celebrates Removal from FATF Grey List

The Philippines has officially exited the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list, a designation for countries under increased monitoring for money laundering and terrorism financing. The decision, announced on Friday, marks a significant milestone for the country’s financial reputation. Removal from the list is expected to improve cross-border transactions, financial transparency, and economic stability.

FATF’s Decision and Its Impact

The FATF, a Paris-based global watchdog, oversees efforts to combat financial crimes worldwide. It placed the Philippines on its grey list in 2021, citing deficiencies in its financial system. After years of corrective measures, the FATF conducted a successful on-site review and removed the country from increased monitoring.

The Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) in Manila hailed the decision as a major achievement. The council stated that exiting the grey list would reduce compliance barriers, lower transaction costs, and enhance investor confidence.

The decision also brings relief to over two million overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), who send billions of dollars in remittances home each year. Faster and cheaper money transfers will benefit both workers and their families.

Government Actions Leading to Removal

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. played a key role in addressing the FATF’s concerns. In 2023, he signed an executive order targeting financial crimes, strengthening the country’s efforts against money laundering and terrorism financing.

Additionally, Marcos ordered the shutdown of offshore gaming operators (POGOs), which were linked to money laundering, human trafficking, fraud, and other organized crimes. These measures demonstrated the government’s commitment to financial security, influencing the FATF’s decision.

Criticism Over Anti-Terrorism Measures

Despite the positive outcome, human rights groups have raised concerns about the Philippine government’s actions. Human Rights Watch (HRW) accused authorities of using anti-terrorism laws to target civil society organizations and activists.

Bryony Lau, deputy Asia director at HRW, claimed that the government had prosecuted individuals on baseless charges to improve its standing with the FATF. She warned that anti-terror laws should not be used as a tool for political suppression.

A New Chapter for the Philippines

With its removal from the FATF grey list, the Philippines is entering a new phase of economic and financial growth. In conclusion the decision enhances its global financial credibility, attracting investors and boosting international trade.

While challenges remain, the country’s commitment to financial reform and crime prevention signals a more stable and transparent financial future.

Trump Fires Top US General in Pentagon Shakeup

In a major shake-up of military leadership, President Donald Trump fired Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General CQ Brown on Friday. Along with Brown, five other top military officials, including admirals and generals, were also removed, signaling a significant shift in the Pentagon’s structure. This marks an unprecedented move as Trump aims to reshape the military’s leadership in line with his America First policies.

New Military Leadership and Historic Changes

Trump announced that retired Lieutenant General Dan “Razin” Caine would replace Brown, breaking tradition by appointing someone out of retirement to the highest military post. The president also decided to replace Admiral Lisa Franchetti, the first woman to lead a military branch, as head of the US Navy.

Additionally, the vice chief of staff of the Air Force and the judge advocates general for the Army, Navy, and Air Force have been removed. These dismissals mark a radical shift in military leadership, bringing uncertainty to the Pentagon’s future.

Read: US Pushes for Permanent Ukraine Peace Agreement

A Period of Upheaval at the Pentagon

The firings come amid Trump’s broader plans to overhaul the defense budget, restructure military deployments, and implement policy changes.

General Brown, only the second Black officer to hold the top military post, was expected to serve until September 2027. However, he was relieved of duty immediately before the Senate could confirm his replacement.

Political Reactions and Criticism

The dismissals have drawn strong criticism from Democratic lawmakers. Senator Jack Reed condemned the move, stating that removing top military leaders for political reasons undermines the professionalism and trust required in the armed forces.

Targeting ‘Woke’ Generals

Trump’s decision aligns with his previous campaign statements about removing so-called “woke” generals and those involved in the controversial 2021 Afghanistan withdrawal. However, he did not specify the exact reasons for replacing Brown.

Brown, a former fighter pilot with extensive experience in the Middle East and Asia, has spoken publicly about racial discrimination in the military. His removal raises concerns about whether diversity efforts within the armed forces are being dismantled.

Removal of Women Leaders

Trump previously fired Admiral Linda Fagan, the first female commandant of the US Coast Guard, on his first day in office. These firings have sparked concerns about the removal of high-ranking female leaders from key military positions.

Reshaping Military Leadership

The changes at the Pentagon are part of Trump’s broader strategy to reshape the US military, removing leaders he perceives as obstacles to his policies. While his supporters see this as a move toward a stronger, more focused military, critics warn that it threatens the integrity of the armed forces by injecting political motivations into military leadership decisions.

IMF Delegation to Visit Pakistan for Loan Review and Climate Financing

Pakistan is set to host an IMF delegation in March for a crucial review of its $7 billion loan program. The visit will also focus on climate financing, an area where Pakistan seeks additional financial support to combat environmental challenges.

Loan Review and Climate Financing Talks

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) will send a mission to Pakistan in early March to assess the country’s economic progress and negotiate the release of the next tranche of the loan. According to Maahir Binesi, IMF’s representative in Pakistan, discussions will also include technical aspects of climate financing, a priority for the government.

In a separate visit, an IMF technical team will arrive in late February to evaluate Pakistan’s ongoing climate financing initiatives. The mission will explore potential funding arrangements to help Pakistan manage climate-related disasters, which have significantly impacted the country in recent years.

Pakistan’s Push for Climate Resilience Funding

Pakistan is among the most climate-vulnerable nations, according to the Global Climate Risk Index. The devastating 2022 floods, which displaced 33 million people and caused severe economic damage, highlighted the urgent need for climate adaptation and disaster management funding.

To address these challenges, Pakistan formally requested $1 billion from the IMF’s Resilience and Sustainability Trust (RST) in October last year. This fund, launched in 2022, provides long-term concessional financing for climate-related projects, including adaptation measures and the shift to clean energy.

According to Khurram Schehzad, Adviser to the Finance Minister, the IMF’s climate-focused mission will visit Islamabad from February 24 to 28. The team will conduct a review and discuss Pakistan’s eligibility for climate resilience financing.

Pakistan’s Economic Recovery Under IMF Program

Pakistan’s economy is slowly stabilizing under the $7 billion IMF Extended Fund Facility (EFF) secured last year. The upcoming loan review mission in March will evaluate Pakistan’s progress under the program and determine the disbursement of the next loan installment.

The government continues to face economic challenges, including high debt levels and inflation, making IMF funding critical for sustaining stability. With additional climate financing, Pakistan hopes to strengthen its environmental policies and boost its ability to respond to climate disasters.

Strengthening Financial and Climate Resilience

The IMF’s dual mission—one focused on the loan program and another on climate funding—reflects the growing importance of climate-related financial support. Pakistan’s government remains committed to securing funds for both economic stability and climate resilience.

With discussions set to take place in the coming weeks, Pakistan aims to strengthen its position in the global fight against climate change while ensuring sustained economic recovery.

Where is Dajjal? Can Satellites Spot Him?

Dajjal, also known as the Antichrist in Islamic eschatology, is a major figure in the end-times prophecies described in Hadith (sayings of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ). He is believed to be a deceiver who will claim divinity, perform false miracles, and lead people astray before being defeated by Prophet Isa (Jesus, peace be upon him). But where is Dajjal right now? Can modern satellites detect his location? Let’s explore Islamic teachings, prophecies, and scholarly perspectives on this mysterious figure.

Can Satellites Spot Dajjal?

There is no scientific evidence or satellite imagery proving the existence or location of Dajjal. However, some Islamic narrations suggest that he is currently confined in an unknown location, possibly on an island, and will emerge near the end of times.

Hadiths About Dajjal’s Location Before His Emergence

1. The Hadith of Tamim Al-Dari (Sahih Muslim, 2942a)

One of the most detailed reports comes from Tamim Al-Dari, a companion of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. He narrated an encounter where he and his crew were stranded on an island and met a mysterious hairy creature (Al-Jassasah). This creature led them to a chained man, who introduced himself as Dajjal and inquired about the condition of the world, revealing that he would soon be released.

2. Dajjal Will Emerge from the East

According to several Hadiths, Dajjal will appear from the East, most likely from Khurasan (modern-day Iran, Afghanistan, or Central Asia).

  • Abu Bakr Siddiq (RA) narrated that Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
“Dajjal will emerge from a land in the east called Khurasan. A group of people with faces like hammered shields will follow him.”
(Sunan Tirmidhi 2237, Sahih according to Albani)

3. Dajjal Will Appear Between Syria and Iraq

  • In another narration, the Prophet ﷺ said:
“Dajjal will emerge from the land between Syria and Iraq and will spread mischief right and left.”
    (Sahih Muslim 2937a)

How Will Dajjal Arrive?

  • He will travel the world in 40 days – The first day will feel like a year, the second like a month, the third like a week, and the rest like normal days.

AI Innovation Lab to Boost Tech Growth in Karachi

  • He will deceive people with false miracles, such as reviving the dead (through illusion), making rain fall, and showing paradise and hell.
  • He will be followed mostly by the Jews of Isfahan (Iran), hypocrites, and weak believers.
  • He will finally be killed by Prophet Isa (Jesus, peace be upon him) near the city of Ludd (Lod, Israel).

Does the Quran Mention Dajjal?

While Dajjal is not explicitly mentioned in the Quran, scholars believe that various verses indirectly reference him and his fitna (tribulation). One such verse is:

“The day when some of the signs of your Lord will come, no soul will benefit from its faith if it had not believed before or had not earned any good through its faith.” (Surah Al-An’am 6:158)

Some Islamic scholars believe this verse refers to major signs of the Day of Judgment, including Dajjal.

Signs of Dajjal’s Appearance

Islamic eschatology outlines several signs that will precede Dajjal’s emergence, including:

  • Moral and social corruption will be widespread.
  • Religious ignorance and the abandonment of Islamic teachings.
  • Wars and conflicts increasing across the world.
  • Strange natural events, including famine and severe droughts.

Conclusion

Modern satellites have not detected Dajjal, but Islamic teachings suggest that he is hidden and will emerge when the time is appointed. His arrival will mark a major trial for humanity, testing faith and discernment. While science cannot confirm these prophecies, they remain an essential part of Islamic eschatology and end-times beliefs.

Armageddon: The Final Battle Between Muslims and Non-believers

What is Armageddon?

Armageddon is commonly understood as the prophesied final battle between the forces of good and evil. The term originates from the Bible, specifically from the Book of Revelation (16:16), which describes it as the site of a great war before the end of the world. The word “Armageddon” is believed to be derived from the Hebrew “Har Megiddo,” referring to a historical battlefield in ancient Israel.

Religious Perspectives on Armageddon

  1. Christianity (Biblical Prophecy)

    • The Book of Revelation describes a climactic battle where the Antichrist and his armies will fight against divine forces led by Jesus Christ.
    • Revelation 16:16 states: “Then they gathered the kings together to the place that in Hebrew is called Armageddon.”
    • Various interpretations link this event to eschatological (end-time) prophecies involving global wars, natural disasters, and divine intervention.
  2. Islamic Eschatology

    • In Islamic teachings, the concept of Al-Malhama Al-Kubra (The Great Battle) is often compared to Armageddon.
    • Islamic prophecies, found in Hadith (sayings of Prophet Muhammad, PBUH), describe a final battle between Muslims and non-believers before the Day of Judgment.
    • A significant figure, Imam Mahdi, is believed to lead Muslims, alongside Prophet Isa (Jesus), in a war against the forces of Dajjal (the Antichrist).
    • Sahih Muslim Hadith: “The Last Hour would not come until the Romans land in al-A’maq or in Dabiq (regions near Syria). Then an army from Medina will come to fight them.”
  3. Judaism

    • Jewish texts, such as the Book of Zechariah, describe a great war before the coming of the Messiah.
    • Ezekiel 38-39 refers to the war of Gog and Magog, a battle where Israel will face a massive invasion before divine intervention.
  4. Other Beliefs

    • Hinduism describes the concept of Kali Yuga, an age of chaos before the god Vishnu (Kalki Avatar) comes to restore order.
    • Norse mythology speaks of Ragnarök, a final war where gods and giants will battle, leading to the rebirth of the world.

Scientific and Research-Based Interpretations

While religious prophecies focus on divine events, scientific perspectives on “end-of-the-world” scenarios align with catastrophic theories:

  1. Nuclear War Theory

    • Scholars and defense analysts fear that escalating global conflicts and nuclear proliferation could lead to an Armageddon-like scenario.
    • The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists has maintained the Doomsday Clock, which warns humanity of the risk of global catastrophe.
    • Studies suggest that a large-scale nuclear conflict between major powers (e.g., USA, Russia, China) could cause mass destruction, climate change, and potential extinction.
  2. Environmental Collapse

    • Scientists warn that climate change, resource depletion, and environmental destruction could lead to global societal breakdown.
    • The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) reports that extreme weather, rising sea levels, and food shortages could trigger large-scale conflicts.
  3. Asteroid Impact

    • The NASA Near-Earth Object Program tracks asteroids that could collide with Earth. A large impact, like the one that wiped out the dinosaurs, could cause catastrophic destruction.
    • In 2013, a Chelyabinsk meteor exploded over Russia, highlighting the potential threat of space objects.
  4. AI and Technological Risks

    • Experts like Elon Musk and Stephen Hawking have warned that uncontrolled artificial intelligence (AI) could become a threat to humanity.
    • The rise of autonomous weapons and cyberwarfare increases the risk of global conflicts that could escalate to a world-ending scenario.

When Will Armageddon Happen?

There is no confirmed date for Armageddon, and most prophecies do not provide a specific timeline. Some historical claims of end-time predictions include:

  • 1000 AD: Early Christian groups believed the millennium would bring the end.
  • 2012: The Mayan calendar predicted a great change, which many misinterpreted as the world’s end.
  • 2060 (Isaac Newton’s Prediction): Sir Isaac Newton, using biblical calculations, speculated that 2060 might mark a significant biblical event.

Scientific studies suggest that existential risks (e.g., nuclear war, climate change, or AI threats) are increasing, but none can accurately predict a specific “Armageddon” date.

Conclusion

Armageddon remains a concept shaped by religious beliefs and scientific predictions of catastrophic global events. Whether viewed through the lens of faith or scientific risk assessment, humanity faces multiple existential threats that could lead to widespread devastation. However, efforts in diplomacy, technological advancements, and global cooperation could potentially mitigate these risks, delaying or even preventing such an apocalyptic scenario.

Apple Clarifies: C1 Modem Not Behind iPhone 16e’s Lack of MagSafe

Apple has officially dismissed claims that its new C1 modem is responsible for the iPhone 16e lacking MagSafe charging. The company confirmed that the decision to remove MagSafe was not due to any technical limitations caused by the modem but rather a cost-cutting measure.

Debunking the C1 Modem Rumors

When Apple unveiled the iPhone 16e, tech enthusiasts quickly noticed the absence of MagSafe, a popular feature that allows for seamless wireless charging and magnetic accessories. Speculation spread that Apple’s newly developed C1 modem, making its debut in the iPhone 16e, might be the reason behind this omission.

However, Apple swiftly put those rumors to rest. In an official statement, the company clarified that the C1 modem has nothing to do with MagSafe’s removal. The modem, designed to improve connectivity, does not interfere with wireless charging or the placement of magnets inside the device.

Read: Google’s AI Co-Scientist: A Game-Changer for Biomedical Research

A Cost-Cutting Measure

With the modem theory debunked, the real reason behind the lack of MagSafe is evident—cost reduction. The iPhone 16e is positioned as Apple’s most affordable model in the iPhone 16 lineup, and to keep the price down, Apple made several compromises. Removing MagSafe is one of them, just like the decision to include lower-tier camera hardware compared to its premium counterparts.

This move aligns with Apple’s strategy for its budget models. The company has a history of limiting features in its entry-level devices to maintain a clear distinction between standard and Pro models. By leaving out MagSafe, Apple ensures that customers who value premium features have an incentive to upgrade to higher-end models.

Why the Confusion?

Despite Apple’s clear pattern of feature segmentation, many were surprised by MagSafe’s exclusion. Some assumed that with the introduction of the C1 modem, technical constraints might have played a role. However, MagSafe has existed in previous iPhones without connectivity issues, making this assumption illogical.

Apple’s response now confirms that this was simply a business decision.

What It Means for iPhone 16e Users

Without MagSafe, iPhone 16e users will need to rely on standard Qi wireless charging or traditional wired charging via USB-C. While Qi charging is convenient, it lacks the efficiency and accessory compatibility of MagSafe.

Apple’s decision also affects third-party accessories, such as MagSafe-compatible wallets, chargers, and car mounts, which won’t work with the iPhone 16e. For users who heavily depend on these accessories, upgrading to a higher-end iPhone 16 model might be the better choice.

A Clear Business Strategy

Apple’s feature-cutting approach for budget iPhones is nothing new. The removal of MagSafe follows the same logic as keeping lower refresh rates on standard iPhones or delaying certain camera upgrades for non-Pro models.

Rickelton’s Century Leads South Africa to Dominant Win

Ryan Rickelton’s maiden ODI century powered South Africa to a commanding 107-run victory over Afghanistan in the Champions Trophy opener. His brilliant knock, supported by solid contributions from Temba Bavuma, Rassie van der Dussen, and Aiden Markram, helped South Africa post an imposing 315 for 6. In response, Afghanistan struggled to build momentum, falling short at 208 all out, with Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi, and Wiaan Mulder sharing seven wickets.

South Africa’s Strong Batting Display

Batting first on a grassy Karachi pitch, South Africa capitalized on the conditions. Rickelton led the charge with a flawless 103, setting the tone for a dominant innings. Bavuma provided steady support with 58, while Markram and van der Dussen both contributed 52 to keep the momentum going.

Rickelton started confidently, stroking a crisp boundary off the third ball. He continued with a mix of aggressive stroke play and smart rotation of strike, never looking rushed. His partnership with Bavuma was crucial, adding 129 runs for the second wicket. Bavuma, initially slow, found his rhythm and reached his second fifty away from home before getting dismissed.

Rickelton’s experience against Rashid Khan, gained from their time together at MI Cape Town in SA20, was evident. He played the Afghan spinners with ease, neutralizing their threat. His century, the first by a South African on Champions Trophy debut, came with a push to long-off, marking a special milestone.

His innings ended in a bizarre run-out when a sharp return throw from Rashid Khan caught him off-guard. As he dived back, his bat bounced off the ground, leaving him just short of the crease. Despite the unfortunate dismissal, South Africa continued to pile on runs, scoring 51 in the last five overs to finish with a competitive total of 315.

Afghanistan’s Struggle in the Chase

Chasing 316, Afghanistan needed a strong start, but South Africa’s pace attack proved too strong. Ngidi removed Rahmanullah Gurbaz early with a short-of-a-length delivery, and Ibrahim Zadran fell to a 148kph thunderbolt from Rabada, losing his middle stump.

Sediqullah Atal had a tough time at the crease, beaten ten times and misplaying 14 shots in his 32-ball stay before a run-out ended his struggle. Hashmatullah Shahidi followed soon after, caught brilliantly by Bavuma. By the 15th over, Afghanistan was reeling at 51 for 4, their chase in serious trouble.

Rahmat Shah Fights a Lone Battle

Amid the collapse, Rahmat Shah stood tall, crafting a well-compiled 90 off 92 balls. He played with confidence, reaching his fifty off 62 deliveries, but lacked support from the other end. Afghanistan’s middle order crumbled, failing to form any substantial partnerships.

The Karachi crowd, largely supporting Afghanistan, found brief moments of excitement when Rashid Khan smashed three fours and a six in a quick 18 off 13 balls. However, their hopes faded when Rahmat edged Rabada to Rickelton, ending Afghanistan’s resistance.

South Africa’s bowlers maintained pressure with tight lines and hard lengths, ensuring Afghanistan never got close. With this win, South Africa secured their first ODI victory in six matches, making a strong start to their Champions Trophy campaign.

Microsoft’s Quantum Chip Breakthrough Signals

Quantum computing is advancing at a rapid pace, and Microsoft’s latest quantum chip breakthrough has brought the reality of encryption vulnerabilities closer than ever. On February 19, Microsoft introduced Majorana 1, a revolutionary hardware chip that paves the way for quantum computers capable of breaking current encryption protocols within years, not decades.

This development marks a significant leap toward large-scale quantum computing, with the potential to solve complex industrial and societal problems. However, it also raises urgent concerns about data security, as quantum computers could render encryption methods like RSA and AES obsolete. Organizations must act now to adopt post-quantum cryptography before their sensitive data becomes vulnerable.

Quantum Computing Advances Faster Than Expected

Microsoft’s breakthrough accelerates the race toward a one-million-qubit quantum computer, a system capable of solving problems beyond the reach of all existing computers combined. The Majorana 1 chip is built using a Topological Core architecture, featuring the first-ever topoconductor—a new state of matter that enhances stability and efficiency in quantum systems.

Unlike classical computing, where a bit represents either 0 or 1, a qubit exists in a superposition of both states, enabling quantum computers to process data at unparalleled speeds. Microsoft emphasizes that achieving a million-qubit system will unlock unprecedented computational power, making it critical for organizations to upgrade their cybersecurity strategies.

Cybersecurity Risks: ‘Harvest Now, Decrypt Later’ Attacks

The rise of quantum computing presents an imminent threat to data security. Malicious actors are already stockpiling encrypted data, anticipating the day when quantum computers can instantly decrypt previously secure information. This strategy, known as “harvest now, decrypt later”, underscores the urgent need for quantum-resistant encryption.

Iain Beveridge, Senior Product and Solutions Manager at Entrust, warned that Microsoft’s announcement validates concerns within the cybersecurity industry. “Quantum computing is coming faster than many expect, and organizations must prepare now to protect their data,” he stated.

Failure to transition to post-quantum cryptography could leave businesses, governments, and financial institutions exposed to catastrophic data breaches.

Transitioning to Quantum-Secure Encryption

In August 2024, the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) formalized the first post-quantum cryptography standards. These include three quantum-resistant algorithms designed to secure data, authenticate identities, and establish safe key exchanges over public channels.

NIST urges organizations to begin the transition now, before quantum computers become powerful enough to crack existing encryption. However, a 2024 Entrust Cybersecurity Institute report identified key challenges:

  • Lack of clear ownership over cryptographic transitions.
  • Limited visibility of cryptographic assets within organizations.

The financial sector is leading the way in adopting quantum-secure solutions. In September 2024, UK-based HSBC successfully tested quantum-secure technology for buying and selling tokenized gold, marking a major milestone in secure financial transactions.

Preparing for the Quantum Future

The arrival of quantum computers is no longer a distant possibility—it is an imminent reality. Microsoft’s Majorana 1 chip is proof that quantum breakthroughs are accelerating, and organizations must adapt before it’s too late.

With encryption protocols at risk, businesses and governments must take proactive steps to integrate post-quantum cryptography, ensuring their data remains secure in the quantum era.

Pakistan vs India: High-Stakes Champions Trophy Clash in Dubai

Pakistan faces a do-or-die situation in their Champions Trophy clash against India on Sunday at the Dubai International Stadium. With a sell-out crowd of 25,000 expected and millions watching worldwide, the pressure is immense. After a crushing defeat against New Zealand, Pakistan must win to keep their title defense alive.

Pakistan Under Pressure After Opening Defeat

Pakistan’s campaign began on a disappointing note with a 60-run loss to New Zealand in Karachi. That defeat left them at the bottom of Group A, making the match against India crucial. A second consecutive loss would almost certainly end their chances of reaching the semi-finals.

India, on the other hand, started strong, securing a six-wicket victory over Bangladesh. New Zealand currently leads Group A due to a superior run rate, while India follows in second place. With only the top two teams advancing to the semi-finals, Pakistan must deliver a top-class performance against their arch-rivals.

Batsman Salman Ali Agha emphasized the need for consistency, saying, “If we want to be among the world’s best teams, we have to perform in every game. We can’t afford to play well in one match and collapse in another.”

Fakhar Zaman Ruled Out

Pakistan’s task has become even harder after losing Fakhar Zaman to a muscle injury. The experienced batsman has been ruled out of the tournament, dealing a significant blow to the team’s batting lineup. Imam-ul-Haq has replaced him, hoping to bring stability at the top of the order.

Pakistan last defeated India in an ODI during the 2017 Champions Trophy final, a dominant performance that saw them lift the title. However, since then, India has won five of the last six encounters, with one match being washed out. Their most recent ODI clash was in the 2023 World Cup, where India claimed a comfortable seven-wicket victory in Ahmedabad.

India Confident After Strong Start

India heads into the high-profile clash with momentum. Their victory over Bangladesh showcased their well-balanced squad. Shubman Gill, in red-hot form, scored an unbeaten 101, marking his second consecutive ODI century. Mohammed Shami led the bowling attack with figures of 5-53, reaffirming India’s strength in the pace department.

Shami exuded confidence when asked about facing Pakistan. “Winning is a habit. You don’t need to overthink an ICC match. Just stay in the same mindset,” he said.

Fellow pacer Harshit Rana, who took three wickets against Bangladesh, echoed similar sentiments. “It’s great to perform before the Pakistan game. I hope to carry this momentum forward,” he added.

Historic Rivalry Amid Political Tensions

Pakistan and India only face each other in multi-nation events due to strained political relations. The match is being played in Dubai because India refused to travel to Pakistan, the official host of the tournament. The two teams haven’t played a bilateral series in over a decade, with India last touring Pakistan for the 2008 Asia Cup.

A win for India would all but confirm their spot in the semi-finals. For Pakistan, it’s a must-win battle to keep their Champions Trophy hopes alive. The stage is set for another epic chapter in cricket’s fiercest rivalry.

Prime Suspect Armaghan to Appear in Court

The prime suspect, Armaghan, is currently in police custody and will be presented before the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) No. 3 for remand. Investigators are probing his involvement in multiple crimes, including murder, fraud, and illegal trade.

Meanwhile, authorities have expanded their investigation. The Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) has sought assistance from the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to examine financial records linked to the suspect. The police’s Special Investigation Unit (SIU) is also looking into his potential involvement in the illegal drug trade.

Brutal Murder Unfolds in Interrogation

During police interrogation, Armaghan confessed to the gruesome torture and murder of Mustafa Amir.

According to his statement, he invited Mustafa and another suspect, Shiraz Bukhari (alias Shavez), to his bungalow in DHA. Under the influence of drugs, he assaulted Mustafa for two hours, using an iron rod to beat him severely. Mustafa suffered serious head and knee injuries, causing excessive bleeding.

Shiraz attempted to intervene, but the violence continued. Later, the two suspects loaded the injured victim into his car and drove towards Hub. Upon reaching the location, Armaghan discovered that Mustafa was still alive.

In a horrific act of cruelty, he doused Mustafa and the car in petrol and set them on fire, mocking Mustafa’s inability to escape due to his injuries. Shiraz then urged Armaghan to flee, and they hitchhiked back to Karachi in separate vehicles.

Following Armaghan’s confession, police raided his bungalow and recovered the iron rod used in the attack.

Call Center Scam and Criminal Past

Investigators also uncovered a call center operation inside Armaghan’s bungalow, where he allegedly defrauded U.S. citizens through fake domestic services. During the raid, police seized multiple laptops, security cameras, motion detectors, walkthrough gates, and illegal weapons. Reports also surfaced that Armaghan employed over 40 security guards.

Authorities are still working to determine the full extent of his financial crimes. However, preliminary investigations confirm that he had been previously booked in at least six cases, including violent offenses and terrorism charges.

With new evidence and ongoing investigations, law enforcement is committed to bringing justice to Mustafa Amir and his grieving family.

IHC Reviews Efforts for Dr. Aafia Siddiqui’s Repatriation

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) is reviewing the government’s efforts to secure the repatriation of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, a Pakistani neuroscientist imprisoned in the United States. During a hearing on Friday, the federal government informed the court that a proposed prisoner exchange involving Shakeel Afridi, a Pakistani doctor convicted of espionage, is not legally or diplomatically feasible.

Government Rejects Prisoner Swap Proposal

Additional Attorney General (AAG) Munawar Iqbal Duggal stated that Pakistan and the U.S. do not have an agreement for prisoner exchanges. He clarified that since both Aafia Siddiqui and Shakeel Afridi are Pakistani citizens, an exchange is not legally viable.

The AAG also revealed that the government has concerns regarding a petition filed by Aafia Siddiqui’s legal team in U.S. courts. In response, the IHC directed him to consult with government officials and submit a detailed report by next Friday.

Why Is Shakeel Afridi Important to the U.S.?

Justice Sardar Ijaz Ishaq Khan questioned why Shakeel Afridi holds significance for the U.S. Amicus curiae Zainab Janjua explained that Afridi was convicted in Pakistan, and his appeal remains pending in the Peshawar High Court. Dr. Fauzia Siddiqui’s lawyer, Imran Shafiq, added that Afridi is accused of collaborating with foreign intelligence agencies, particularly in tracking Osama bin Laden.

Afridi allegedly ran a fake vaccination campaign to help the CIA locate bin Laden before the 2011 U.S. operation in Abbottabad. This involvement has made him a crucial figure in U.S.-Pakistan relations.

U.S. Response and Diplomatic Concerns

The AAG informed the court that Pakistan had submitted a response on February 19. He further disclosed that former U.S. President Joe Biden rejected Aafia Siddiqui’s plea for clemency. Additionally, the U.S. government has not responded to a letter from Pakistan’s prime minister requesting her release.

Justice Khan expressed concern over Pakistan’s diplomatic approach. He criticized the lack of engagement from the White House and questioned the government’s reluctance to fully support the petition in U.S. courts.

Legal and Diplomatic Challenges

Aafia Siddiqui’s American lawyer, Clive Smith, initially suggested the prisoner swap as a possible solution. However, the government’s rejection of this proposal has complicated efforts to bring her back to Pakistan.

The IHC has adjourned the hearing until next Friday. The court has instructed the AAG to provide a comprehensive response outlining the government’s objections to the U.S. court petition. It has also asked for clarification on the diplomatic steps Pakistan has taken to advocate for Aafia Siddiqui’s release.

A Case That Continues to Shape U.S.-Pakistan Relations

Dr. Aafia Siddiqui is serving an 86-year prison sentence in the U.S. for allegedly attempting to kill American soldiers in Afghanistan. Her case has remained a point of contention between Pakistan and the U.S., with ongoing legal and diplomatic battles. Meanwhile, Shakeel Afridi, imprisoned in Pakistan, remains a key figure in negotiations between the two countries.

The court’s upcoming decision and the government’s next steps will determine whether any progress can be made in securing Aafia Siddiqui’s return to Pakistan.
