Poor Air Quality in Racially Segregated Areas

Scientists at Colorado State University confirmed that racially segregated areas in the US suffer from poor air quality

During the Covid peak in 2020, marginalized races or colored races were prone to Coronavirus and got infected severely.

Now the scientists at Colorado State University suggest that there is a link between air quality and racial segregation based on their research of five years worth of data.

Their research claims that the racially segregated counties in the US suffer from poor air quality, with particles that are less than 2.5 micrometers in diameter, which makes it easy for them to travel down the respiratory tract and harm the human body.

The air in these counties is a mixture of wildfire smoke and smoke from vehicles and factories.

Moreover, the air contains particles such as; lead, chromium, vanadium, manganese, nickel, iron, and copper which can harm liver, kidneys, high blood pressure, nervous system damage, and affect cognitive functions.

Scientists suggest that these metals remain in the densely concentrated atmosphere where they are produced and do not disintegrate into air.

They further mentioned that these metals stay in air which the residents inhale and that puts them at risk.

Here are benefits of covering yourself

Hijab is an essential part of the Muslim culture. It is a dress code for women that covers their bodies from head to toe. In fact, hijab is not just about clothing it also refers to the whole character of a person.

Muslims often wear the hijab, which is a religious head covering. It typically hides the hair and neck. The majority of Muslim women keep their hair covered and avoid wearing tight attire.

Some western people avoid covering themselves as they think it looks conservative and backward. In the past many incidents when a girl in hijab was targeted and bullied for her dress choice. Covering one face and body is something people try to shun.

However, people don’t seem to know the real benefits of covering their faces and bodies.

We always see actors and actresses getting embarrassed for wearing short clothes. This is not because others threw bad remarks about their attire but because such outfits put people in an awkward situation.

Girls who wear hijab never encounter any embarrassing moments in fact they are very happy and are aware of the benefits of covering themselves.

In this regard, let’s take a look at some of the benefits of wearing a hijab.

It protects you from sunlight

It protects your skin from harmful UV rays that cause sunburns, wrinkles and skin cancer; it also reduces susceptibility to skin infections such as acne and eczema because it prevents excessive sweating which promotes bacterial growth on the skin surface (especially if wearing synthetic fabrics) – so it’s better for your skin!

According to a statement, unprotected exposure to the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays can damage your skin, eyes, and immune system.” The chances of damage are decreased when girls cover themselves. Many girls are happy with the fact that their Abaya protects them from the sun and other harmful rays. They also love to cover their faces.

Saves Time

Well, some people take too much time to get dressed especially girls who are college/university and office goers. Even when you don’t wear so much makeup, getting dressed and making your hair can consume a lot of your time. Women who wear hijab and observe parda don’t have to fret about it all. Just put on an abaya, headscarf and face cover and there you go! You can wear whatever you want under your abaya.

In fact, in many Arab countries where hijab and abaya are obligatory tend to wear jeans and tops.

Saves you from Mosquito bite

Dengue is a viral disease that is transmitted through mosquito bites. The most common symptoms of dengue include fever, headache, muscle and joint pains and rashes on the body. More than 6000 people had fallen prey to the dengue virus in Karachi recently.

Wearing a hijab will help protect you from these diseases as it keeps your body covered and prevents mosquitoes from biting you.

Hijab protects you from unwanted attention

Wearing a hijab will not only keep you safe from diseases but will also stop unwanted attention from men who might be interested in you. By covering yourself up completely, men are less likely to bother you or harass you because they won’t be able to see what’s underneath your outfit!

Protects hair

People who go out in the open and do not cover their heads are familiar with hair damage. Just like skin, our hair is also subjected to suffer great damage from pollution, dust and sunlight. But female students and working women who wear hijab do not have to worry about all these problems.

Covering your head has also other benefits as Dr Alex Ginzburg, a dermatologist puts it that “covering the head does not cause hair loss”. Besides making your outfit look more stylish, a hair scarf also helps protect your hair from the sun and dust.

Protects from Dirt and Allergy

Since there is so much pollution and dirt in the air leaving your face, hands and feet uncovered can lead to cause skin allergies. People living in Karachi encounter skin irritation, pimples and other related problems due to an increase in dust and pollution. Covering your body and face will be a safe bet to help you protect your skin from different skin allergies.

Because they are hypoallergenic, head coverings and face coverings are unlikely to trigger an allergic reaction. Additionally, they resist allergens including dust mites, mould, and fungus.

Boosts confidence

The hijab gives women an opportunity to feel more confident in their own skin. It can also help them feel more secure, as they are less likely to be objectified by men.

When a woman wears the hijab, she is able to fully focus on her work without having to worry about her appearance or how she looks. This allows her to be in control of her own appearance and how she presents herself in the world.

During the Covid pandemic, it was made obligatory to wear masks. According to science, it helps curb germs to get to the other person. Therefore, wearing face masks has a lot of benefits.

In the past few years, there has been a strong push for Muslim women to cover themselves. This movement began in France with the banning of the niqab (the face veil) and burkini (a full-body swimsuit) and was later adopted by other countries such as Belgium and Germany.

While this movement is based on a patriarchal idea that women are not equal to men, I believe it is important for Muslim girls to continue wearing hijabs in order to preserve their identity as Muslims and show solidarity with other Muslims who may be forced to take off their hijabs.

Is Black Hole Simulation Possible?

It has been reported that scientists from Amsterdam have created a mini-black hole that started emitting radiation.

Every student has learned about the black hole in their schools and the possibility to study it in detail has always been intriguing.

A black hole refers to a region in space and time where the gravity is so strong that no electromagnetic waves or light can escape that region.

If the black hole expands, life forms can easily get sucked in and disappear forever.

The physicists in Amsterdam University have created their own mini black hole to study quantum mechanics and studies by Stephen Hawking,

The scientists created the black hole in their lab and observed that it began to glow. Also, they used a chain of atoms in a single line to study its behaviour.

In 1974, Stephen Hawking proposed a theory which suggested that black hole emitted a rare form of radiation.

However, the radiation in the experiment shows an anomaly because not even light can pass through a black hole.

It is noted that the entanglement of the particles caused this form of radiation and there is a possibility that there is a region where gravity causes change in space-time warp.

Moreover, if users wish to use the Google play store then they have to download the services by making payments through credit and debit cards.

Authorities are trying to convince the State Bank of Pakistan to reverse the decision.

Sindh High Court dismissed the ban against the movie ‘Joyland’ stating that it discourages creativity and growth

A petition was submitted in the Sindh High Court regarding the recently released movie ‘Joyland’ which garnered immense attention and gained multiple nominations.

The petition mentioned that Saim Sadiq’s movie must be banned because the story portrays a romantic relationship between a married man and a transgender woman.

The story violates Islamic teachings and the Constitution, therefore, it should be banned.

However, the judges claim that the petitioner did not challenge the certifications of the film itself and how the movie can offend any constitutional article.

Chief justice Ahmed Ali Shaikh presided over the case and stated that unnecessary bans and censorship negatively impacts creativity and growth.

The judges further discussed that if the censorship board has sent a green signal to the movie, then it is not the responsibility of court to censor a movie.

Moreover, they stated that court is not responsible to morally police the public on their movie choices. Also, it will undermine the freedom of speech and expression of the filmmakers.

He urged Imran Khan to consider taking a step back from the long march because there are factors that put risk on his life.

Moreover, he elaborated his stance, saying that Al Qaeda agents will willingly do this job of hurting Imran Khan. Also, the intelligence agencies have warned regarding the threats towards Imran Khan.

YouTube First Ever Brandcast Held in Karachi

The social media giant YouTube recently held its first Brandcast in Karachi to celebrate Pakistan’s YouTube community

On Friday, YouTube held its first brandcast in Karachi to celebrate the YouTube community in Pakistan which is growing at a rapid pace.

The brandcast was about sharing the insights about YouTube community and creators, recent updates on the platform and inspirations from different brands on the platform.

This brandcast is a step towards supporting the Pakistani creators to set up a global community where they can meet and evolve along with their audiences.

Google Research

Google and Kantar’s research deals with unlocking digital in rural areas of Pakistan. According to the research many people in rural communities watch YouTube for different reasons.

For instance, the research suggested that;

  • 91% of Pakistani shared that YouTube makes them feel positive.
  • 78% of Pakistani say that they watch their favourite shows on YouTube.
  • 76% of Pakistani say that YouTube helped them to learn something new.
  • 75% of Pakistani said that the platform sparks their interests.
  • 73% of internet users in Pakistan say that YouTube has video content for all their moods.

Community Growing Strongly

YouTube in Pakistan is growing on a rapid pace. The brandcast revealed that many Pakistani content creators use this platform to make a connection with their audience through long and short form content.

In fact, the total hours of content uploaded to YouTube by channels in Pakistan from June 2021 to May 2022 grew by over 25% when compared to the same time the year before, which suggests the importance and steady growth of this platform.

YouTube recently launched YouTube shorts earlier this year which became popular in Pakistan. The short-form content gave opportunity to creators to engage their audience and give away their best in less time.

It boosted creators’ creativity like in the case of Salman Noman, a popular YouTube with more than 10 million subscribers.

He states that, “Before YouTube, I used to make the same style of videos on other short-form platforms and saw reasonable success. But I realized that other platforms had a ceiling to creator growth. Then YouTube introduced Shorts, which for me has no boundaries and makes the world your oasis. YouTube helped me grow my audience globally and I gained recognition because of my Shorts videos. I am so thankful for YouTube Shorts and having the platform to grow my audience.”

As of June 2021, the number of YouTube channels making 1 million PKR or more in revenue is up over 110%, year over year. Whether a Pakistani from a remote village in Punjab or a metropolis like Karachi, YouTube has proven to be an effective medium for communication across all Pakistani languages.

Here is why Qatar 2022 World Cup unique from all others

The FIFA World Cup, the most-watched sporting event in the world, features 64 matches between 32 teams over the course of an entire month of nonstop football activity.

There are numerous factors that will make the Qatar 2022 World Cup unique from all others.

Not to mention, it’s the first football competition to truly be international after the pandemic.

The first-ever FIFA Winter World Cup

Traditionally, the Northern Hemisphere’s summer months of June and July are occupied by FIFA World Cup competitions. The organisers of the first World Cup in the Arab world, however, were forced to make accommodations because of the intense summer heat in the area.

While summertime highs hover around 50°C, wintertime lows range from 4 to 29°C, making them much more bearable.

The Most Potential Visitors

Qatar, which is centrally placed between the majority of the major geographic regions and is located on the Arabic Peninsula, is a well-known travel hub. Therefore, it is not surprising that the nation anticipates receiving the highest influx of more than 1 million foreign spectators. Throughout the competition, 1,300 incoming planes are anticipated to touch down in the nation each day.

First-Ever World Cup in the Middle-East

The FIFA World Cup will be held in Qatar for the first time in the Middle East and just the second time in Asia overall. The latest new region to host the FIFA World Cup was South Africa (Africa) in 2010.

First-Ever Smallest Host Country

By both population and land area, Qatar is the FIFA World Cup’s smallest host nation. Qatar is smaller than the entirety of New York City, with a total area of approximately 11,571 km2. It only has 2.881 million people. Uruguay, which has a population of about 3.5 million and a geographic area of 176,215 km2, is the next-smallest FIFA World Cup host.

Only 90 miles separate the stadiums in Qatar that are the furthest apart-Al Bayt and Al Wakrah. All of the World Cup stadiums are connected by the Doha Metro line, making it easy to get to any of them.

No Alcohol in Stadium

When it comes to alcohol, Qatar has been upfront about its stance. Alcohol will not be available in stadiums (except in some corporate entertainment areas).  Qatar has set up alcohol-friendly “fan zones” throughout the country, which are areas where fans can gather and drink without fear of legal repercussions. Alcohol sold in fan zones will also be less expensive than what’s typical for Qatar.

Centrally Air-Conditioned Stadiums

All of Qatar’s brand-new stadiums will feature central air-conditioning. Each stadium will require about 115 MWh per game for cooling. That translates to roughly 43,560 household air conditioners per stadium or a whole lot of industrial fans!

This is because it gets pretty hot in Qatar, where the tournament will take place. Temperatures can reach 25 degrees Celsius in December, which is still one of the hottest months there.

Eight Stadiums

Qatar’s 2022 World Cup will take place in eight new or renovated stadiums, the smallest number of stadiums that any previous World Cup has ever used. Seven of these were built entirely from scratch, while the only existing stadium was massively renovated.

Here are Eight Stadiums:

Unprecedented Namaz Break

As Namaz time approached, muezzins across Qatar called Muslim football players, fans and officials to the first Friday prayers, according to Reuters.

At the Ibrahim al-Khalil Mosque in Doha’s West Bay, they all gathered there for the weekly congregational prayer.

Many Muslim fans told that Qatar’s World Cup has accommodated them like never before. There are praying rooms in the stadium, a free-alcohol stadium, there are halal food outlets and no beer-swilling fans to deal with in the stands.

How Qatar Became the Host of the Fifa World Cup 2022?

In the bidding process for the 2022 World Cup, Qatar defeated bids from the United States, South Korea, Japan and Australia. It faced several obstacles as FIFA raised concerns in its technical reports. Those included a lack of existing infrastructure and Qatar’s intense heat in the summer when World Cup tournaments are traditionally held. Despite these concerns, Qatar secured 14 votes to the USA’s eight in the final round of balloting to win hosting rights for 2022.

Qatar, which has never previously appeared at a World Cup tournament, lost the opening game of its first appearance with a 2-0 defeat against Ecuador on Sunday. The country’s World Cup debut has stirred controversy within the footballing community and beyond.

Qatar was chosen to host the 2022 World Cup in December 2010. Former FIFA President Sepp Blatter welcomed the prospect of football’s showpiece event going to “new lands.”

Qatar has invested billions in its football infrastructure in preparation for the 2022 tournament. But questions about just how Qatar won the right to stage the World Cup continue. As recently as March 2020, officials from the United States Department of Justice alleged that bribes were accepted by top officials as part of the voting process to elect Russia and Qatar as the tournament host for the 2018 and 2022 events – claims Russian officials denied and Qatari officials called “false” in a statement.

Gianni Infantino, the president of FIFA, said that Qatar has made a “great evolution” in its labour reforms and that the International Labor Organization has been working with Qatar to ensure that workers are paid a fair wage. Meanwhile, the LGBTQ community has also been advocating for better treatment from Qatar in the years leading up to the World Cup.

What is climate change?

Do you know what is Climate change?

Climate change is the name for changes in the global temperature of the earth as a result of the greenhouse effect. It’s been caused because of the large amounts of gas humans have released into the atmosphere.

Climate change is the gradual increase in the Earth’s average surface temperature. The Earth’s average surface temperature has increased by about 1.5 degrees Fahrenheit since the late 19th century, and is estimated to have increased by about 2 degrees Fahrenheit since the turn of the 21st century. The most significant cause of climate change is the burning of fossil fuels, primarily oil and coal, which releases greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. These gases trap energy from the sun in the atmosphere, causing the Earth’s surface temperature to increase.

It has become a global problem. The United States is one of the largest contributors to climate change, but it is not the only country.

China, India, and Russia are the world’s top five biggest contributors to climate change, according to a report from the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

The report says that the world’s top five contributors – the US, China, India, Russia, and the European Union – account for more than two-thirds of the emissions that are driving climate change.

The US, China, and India are responsible for the lion’s share of emissions growth between 1990 and 2014, the report says.

There are three primary factors that contribute to climate change:

  1. Emissions from human activities (such as burning fossil fuels)
  2. Natural variability (such as the sun’s variability)
  3. Earth’s climate feedback.

Let’s talk about them in detail.

1. Emissions from human activities

There are many different types of emissions that come from human activities. The most common and well-known type of emission is the release of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. These gases include carbon dioxide, water vapour, methane, and nitrous oxide. Greenhouse gases trap heat in the atmosphere and cause the Earth’s temperature to rise. This can lead to climate change, which can cause drastic changes in weather patterns, sea levels, and ecosystems. Other types of emissions include particulate matter, such as soot, and harmful chemicals, such as mercury and lead. These emissions can cause respiratory and other health problems in humans and animals.

Reducing emissions from human activities is essential to protecting the environment and mitigating the effects of climate change. There are many ways to reduce emissions, such as using renewable energy sources, improving energy efficiency, and reducing consumption. Individuals can also reduce their emissions by recycling, composting, and driving less.

2. Natural Variability

Natural variability is the year-to-year or decade-to-decade variability in the Earth’s climate that has always existed. It includes changes in the intensity of the sun, volcanic eruptions, and variations in the Earth’s orbit around the sun. These factors can cause warming or cooling periods lasting a few years to a few decades. Natural variability can also affect the rate of melting of polar ice caps and the release of greenhouse gases from the ocean floor.

Climate change is the long-term alteration of temperature and typical weather patterns in a place. Climate change could refer to a particular location or the planet as a whole. Climate change has been connected with damaging weather events such as more frequent and more intense hurricanes, floods, downpours, and winter storms. Together with expanding ocean waters due to rising temperatures melting polar ice, the resulting rise in sea level has begun to damage coastlines as a result of increased flooding and erosion.

3. Earth’s climate feedback.

Earth’s climate feedback loop is a term used to describe the various ways in which the Earth’s climate system responds to changes in the atmosphere and land surface. These changes in turn can affect the climate system in a number of ways, including altering the Earth’s temperature, precipitation, winds, and ocean currents.

The Earth’s climate system is composed of a large number of interacting parts, and it is difficult to determine exactly how each one affects the others. However, research has shown that the Earth’s climate feedback loop is a powerful mechanism that can significantly impact global temperature.

One of the key components of the Earth’s climate feedback loop is the water cycle

Emissions from human activities are the largest contributor to climate change. We produce greenhouse gases when we burn fossil fuels, which trap energy in the Earth’s atmosphere. The more greenhouse gases we produce, the more heat.

Greenhouse gas emissions i.e, carbon dioxide and methane are caused by burning gas for heating or driving a car or coal or wood fire for heating. The main sources of carbon dioxide emissions are fossil fuels that cause air pollution, like coal, gas, oil and natural gas. The main sources of carbon dioxide emissions are buildings, industry, landfills and land use. By making these changes, we can reduce the amount of greenhouse gas emissions.

The factors of climate change are the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, the concentration of water vapour, the amount of heat received from the sun, and the amount of dust in the atmosphere. All of these factors work together to create climate change.

Things we can do to prevent climate change and its devastating effects. Here are some key things to remember:

Reduce greenhouse gas emissions: One of the most important things we can do to prevent climate change is to reduce our emissions of greenhouse gases. This can be done by using less energy, choosing energy-efficient appliances, and switching to clean energy sources like solar and wind power.

Protect and restore forests: Trees play a vital role in absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and helping to regulate the climate. So, it’s important to protect our forests and restore degraded forests. This can be done by planting trees, supporting responsible forestry practices, and reducing our consumption of wood products.

Improve agricultural practices: Agriculture is a major source of greenhouse gas emissions. But, there are many ways to make agriculture more sustainable and reduce its impact on the climate. This includes using more efficient irrigation methods, planting trees and cover crops, and reducing food waste.

There are many ways to prevent global warming, but one of the most important is to reduce your carbon footprint. By reducing the amount of carbon you emit, you can help make a difference.

Here are some ways to reduce your carbon footprint:

1. Use public transportation or carpool when possible.

2. Walk or ride your bike instead of driving whenever possible.

3. Reduce your energy consumption by turning off lights and appliances when you’re not using them.

4. Consider investing in renewable energy sources like solar or wind power.

5. Recycle and compost to reduce the amount of waste you produce.

By making small changes in your daily life, you can make a big difference in the fight against global warming.
